Marlins optioned OF Bryan Petersen to Triple-A New Orleans.
Petersen didn't exactly play poorly this spring, batting .250 (11-for-44) with a homer and four stolen bases, but sometimes having options left works against you at this time of the year. Austin Kearns and Chris Coghlan now both have a pretty good shot to be with the team on Opening Day. The Marlins also reassigned right-hander J.D. Martin and infielder Nick Green to minor league camp.

Fri Aug 12 201122:05Bryan Petersen has big night
Bryan Petersen went 3-for-3 with a stolen base in a rare start Friday.
Petersen began the game in center field before moving to left field when Logan Morrison was taken out for defensive purposes. He's actually started three of four games since he belted a pinch-hit homer Sunday, and you'd think he's likely earned some more time after tonight's showing. Petersen is batting .351/.434/.569 this year at Triple-A, so he could be worth a look in NL-only formats if he continues to see some starts.
