Weddle lead the Bolts with nine total tackles and two passes defensed on Sunday in San Diego's win over the Lions.
Even though this looks like it will be his last year in San Diego after offseason negotiations went nowhere and he held out of voluntary OTAs, Weddle did not let his unhappiness affect his play on the field. He and the Chargers secondary did a great job of limiting Calvin Johnson and the rest of the Detroit passing game in this one.

Weddle was back with the Chargers for a mandatory three-day minicamp on Tuesday, and he announced that while he will be giving 100% effort to the team this year, this will almost certainly be his last season with the Chargers, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Weddle had skipped all voluntary workouts this offseason as he attempted to open a dialogue with the team about a contract extension, but it appears that the time for negotiation has passed. "Contrary to what has recently been said by upper management, there has never been any financial numbers discussed and the Chargers have never put an offer on the table for us to consider," Weddle said after practice. "It is obvious to me I am not part of this organization's long-term plans." Weddle is said to be in tremendous shape, and nobody doubts that he will give maximum effort for the Bolts this season, but this is looking like a rather ugly end to his eight-year run in San Diego.

Weddle is expected to be a full participant once Tuesday's mandatory three-day minicamp begins, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Weddle has been absent from the Chargers' offseason activities thus far as he seeks a contract extension, but since he's already under a deal with San Diego, the safety would be fined for not showing up to this week's minicamp. With that situation looming, the veteran will instead rejoin his teammates on Tuesday and is expected to be a full participant in practices. At 30 years old, Weddle is among the premier safeties league-wide and has registered 129 tackles over the past two seasons.

Weddle continues to skip OTAs due to frustration with contract talks, Eric D. Williams of ESPN reports.
Weddle enters 2015 set to make the third-highest salary ($7.5 million) among safeties, but is in the last year of a five-year, $40 million dollar contract. It appears both sides are interested in extending his stay in San Diego, but the numbers remain far apart. As a result, Weddle continues to skip the team's OTA's and time that could be spent gelling with the other expected starter at safety, Jahleel Addae. However, the veteran should remain a solid IDP option after collecting 114 tackles (91 solo), one interception and two forced fumbles in 2014.
Mon May 25 201517:02Weddle won't attend Chargers' first OTA on Tuesday
Weddle won't attend the Chargers' first OTA on Tuesday, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Although his presence is voluntary in such offseason drills, Weddle is seeking a extension on his current contract, which runs through the 2015 season. During his eight professional campaigns, he's earned two first-team All-Pro selections, three second-team All-Pro picks, and three Pro Bowl bids, all of them in the past five years. In addition, he's proved healthy, missing only four games in his career, while tallying 19 interceptions and averaging 96.5 tackles per season.
Tue Apr 21 201510:42Weddle
Weddle, whose contract is set to expire after the 2015 season, is not present for voluntary offseason workouts, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Weddle indicated that the Chargers have thus far been unwilling to discuss a contract extension, which is unusual when dealing with a player of this caliber. Weddle has been one of the league's top safeties since he first became a starter in 2008, and he's never played for any team besides the Chargers. Despite his current displeasure, the All-Pro safety still wants to work something out, and he figures to be on the field when Week 1 rolls around.

Weddle finished 2014 with 114 tackles, two forced fumbles and one interception and was named an All-Pro by the Associated Press.
The eight-year veteran remains the leader of San Diego's secondary and has been an iron man for the team, having only missed a total of four games in his career and none since 2009.

Weddle had nine tackle (seven solo) and forced a fumble in Thursday night's loss at Denver.
Weddle also had an interception which was nullified by a suspect defensive holding call. He continues to be one of the leaders of the defense in San Diego and does not look like he is slowing down any time soon.
Sat Mar 2 201320:44Weddle says he's open to restructured deal
Chargers FS Eric Weddle said he would be willing to restructure his deal in order to create cap space.
Weddle is due $6 million in 2013, so he could reduce his cap number by converting his base salary into a signing bonus. Phillip Rivers has also told the Chargers that he would be open to restructuring his contract. San Diego is currently around $8 million under the salary cap.

Fri Dec 9 201121:09Eric Weddle has career-high 6 interceptions
Chargers DBs coach Steve Wilks explained that Eric Weddle's role has changed this year, morphing into more of a ball-hawking free safety than enforcer in the box.
Weddle's tackles are down a bit because he's playing in center field more, but he ranks second in the NFL with a career-high six interceptions. "Coming in to training camp," Wilks said, "I asked him, `Eric, what are you, who are you? You're not a crushing hitter. But you're a ball hawk. You've got to make plays on the ball this year.' And I think he's done that thus far."

According to the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram, free agent S Eric Weddle will make a decision on a team by the end of the day.
Cowboys beat writer Clarence Hill says Weddle has already received "a few strong offers." Weddle grew up a Cowboys fan, but it's not clear if Dallas is willing or able to go overboard to land him. Several reports suggest the Cowboys will end up with Abram Elam instead.

Tue Jul 26 201118:11Jaguars contact free agent Eric Weddle
The Florida Times Union confirms that the Jaguars have contacted the player rep for free agent FS Eric Weddle.
The Times Union's Tania Ganguli was previously skeptical of a Jaguars-Weddle marriage, but confirms they're "one of six teams" to make overtures. Weddle wants to return to the Chargers, but he's also been public about his intentions to take the most money possible. If the Jags buck up, they'll be in the hunt.

Tue Jul 26 201117:07Eric Weddle drawing interest from six teams
In addition to the Vikings, free agent FS Eric Weddle has reportedly drawn interest from the Colts, Jaguars, Cowboys, Texans, and Chargers.
The Chicago Sun-Times also listed the Browns earlier in the day, but that may have been an agent-driven report. Weddle is reportedly seeking a contract in the $7 million per year range. As the most coveted safety on the market, it's not an unreasonable request.

Tue Jul 26 201113:18Report: Vikes in constant contact with Weddle
The player rep for free agent FS Eric Weddle has reportedly been in "constant contact" with the Vikings.
No visit has been set up yet, but Chargers are going to have serious competition for his services. The Vikes are in need of a major upgrade at safety, and Weddle would fit the bill. Weddle would presumably replace overpaid FS Madieu Williams, who is not believed to be amenable to a paycut.

Tue Jul 26 201112:08Jaguars not expected to pursue Weddle
The Florida Times-Union believes the Jaguars will not seriously pursue free agent S Eric Weddle.
Perhaps they've come to the realization that Weddle wants to re-sign with the Chargers. The Jaguars could turn to fallback options such as Michael Huff, Danieal Manning, Quintin Mikell, or Dawan Landry.
