Hermida signed a one-year, $500,000 contract with the Nippon Ham Fighters of Japan's Pacific League on Friday, the Associated Press reports.
The Brewers granted Hermida his release a day earlier after he was offered a more lucrative opportunity to play in Asia. The 30-year-old slashed .256/.370/.456 at Triple-A Nashville in the Milwaukee organization last season and seemingly has little chance of reaching the big leagues again.

Jeremy Hermida hit a go-ahead two-run homer in Friday's 8-7 win over the Giants.
The Padres were originally up 5-0, but the Giants scored seven runs in the fifth to pull ahead. Hermida's two-run blast off Sergio Romo in the bottom of the eighth put the Padres ahead for good. The former top prospect is hitting .350 (14-for-40) this spring and has made a late charge at a roster spot by homering three times in the past three games, but he's likely to open the season with Triple-A Tucson.

Jeremy Hermida is expected to join the Yomiuri Giants of Japan's Central League.
The Japanese media report was passed along by Patrick Newman of NPB Tracker. Hermida was claimed off waivers by the Padres at the end of August after spending most of the season at the Triple-A level in the Reds' organization. The 27-year-old outfielder has a .257/.334/.415 batting line and .749 OPS over parts of seven seasons in the big leagues and has failed to come anywhere close to the promise he showed back in 2007.
