CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Rick VandenHurk plans to re-sign with the Samsung Lions of the Korean Baseball Organization.
VandenHurk's contract with the three-time defending Korean Series winners is pending a physical. VandenHurk, your prototypical Quadruple-A hurler, pitched very well for the Pirates' Triple-A affiliate in 2012, posting a 2.92 ERA and 113/35 K/BB ratio in 123 1/3 innings of work.

"The thing for me is I just want to prepare myself the best I can and come into spring training in the best shape I can be in and just go from there. I can't worry about other stuff that's not in my control." VandenHurk, 25, posted a 4.96 ERA and 17/7 K/BB ratio over 16 1/3 innings after coming over from the Marlins in the Will Ohman trade last July. It's not clear if the Orioles view him as a starter or reliever, but if he doesn't make the team, he would have to be exposed to waivers.

Rick VandenHurk relieved an injured Brian Matusz after one inning Monday and gave up just one run over 5 1/3 innings in a 4-3 win over Toronto.
The right-hander permitted two hits, walked no one and struck out three. The Orioles have said they'd like to give VandenHurk a start or two in September, and he'll surely be the one to fill in for Matusz if the lefty has to miss a start. VandenHurk boasts a 2.61 ERA and 0.97 WHIP over 8 1/3 innings with the O's this year.
