Sat May 28 202212:09Hunter Harvey, Anibal Sanchez Working Their Way Back
Washington Nationals pitchers Hunter Harvey (forearm) and Mason Thompson (biceps) are both throwing bullpen sessions in West Palm Beach as they rehab from their respective injuries. Veteran right-hander Anibal Sanchez (neck) is in D.C. and is throwing up to 100 feet. He could resume throwing off a mound next week. There remains no timetable for any of these three hurlers. Harvey has been on the injured list since April 21 and has only tossed 2 2/3 relief innings this year before his injury. Sanchez, 38, was put on the injured list on April 11 with a cervical nerve impingement in his neck. The right-hander hasn't pitched in the big leagues since he posted a 6.62 ERA and 1.66 WHIP with Washington in 2020.

Tue May 3 202218:00Anibal Sanchez Transferred To 60-Day Injured List
The Washington Nationals transferred starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez (neck) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list on Tuesday. The veteran has yet to appear in a game for the Nats this year as he's been sidelined due to a cervical neck impingement. Following Tuesday's move, he won't be eligible to return to the majors until mid-June. The Nationals have one of the league's thinnest starting rotations, so if Sanchez is able to work his way back to game form, we'll likely see him in the team's rotation at some point this year. However, he isn't someone worth monitoring for fantasy purposes.

Mon Apr 11 202214:18Anibal Sanchez Placed On Injured List Monday
Anibal Sanchez Placed On Injrued ListThe Washington Nationals placed starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez (neck) on the injured list due to a cervical nerve impingement according to the Washington Post's Jesse Dougherty. Also per Dougherty, left-hander Josh Rogers was recalled to take the veteran's spot in the rotation against the Atlanta Braves on Monday. Sanchez last pitched in the Majors during the 2020 season, working to a 6.62 ERA, a 5.46 FIP, 43 strikeouts, and 18 walks in 53 innings. In six starts spanning 35.2 innings for the club last season, Rogers turned in a 3.28 ERA and a 5.83 FIP while striking out 22 batters and walking 14. You're probably better off looking elsewhere for streaming options.

Sun Apr 10 202211:27Anibal Sanchez Could Miss Monday's Start
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez (neck) is dealing with a stiff neck and may not be able to make his start on Monday on the road against the Atlanta Braves after he felt it while throwing on Friday. The veteran right-hander's season debut may have to be pushed back a bit, and it remains to be seen if he'll need to go on the injured list. The 38-year-old will probably be very limited with his pitch count if he does end up making the start, and fantasy managers should stay away. Sanchez didn't pitch at all last year, had an ERA over 6.00 with the Nats in 2020 and wasn't very good in spring training, so he shouldn't really be on the fantasy radar in mixed leagues at this time.

Tue Apr 5 202209:35Anibal Sanchez Makes Opening Day Roster
The Washington Nationals have purchased the contract of veteran starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez. He will be part of the team's Opening Day roster and will likely be part of the starting rotation. The 38-year-old signed a minor league deal with the team in March. He had a dreadful spring as he allowed 12 hits, five walks and 10 earned runs over 6.1 innings. However, the Nationals have an extremely thin starting rotation right now, so Sanchez fills a massive need. In a corresponding move, the team optioned fellow pitcher Hunter Harvey to Triple-A.

Sun Mar 13 202222:31Anibal Sanchez Signs With Nationals
The Washington Nationals signed free-agent starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez on Sunday. The Nationals were one of the teams that came away impressed with Sanchez's showcase for interested teams on Saturday, and they didn't wait long to reunite with the veteran hurler. The 38-year-old signed a minor league deal that includes an invite to spring training. Sanchez didn't find any deals to his liking last year and sat out the season, but he'll return to the club that he pitched for his previous two seasons in 2019 and 2020. In 11 starts in 2020, he had a rough 6.62 ERA and 1.66 WHIP while fanning 43 and walking 18 in 53 innings. With Joe Ross (elbow) and Stephen Strasburg (shoulder) recovering from injuries, Sanchez has a shot to open the year in the Nats starting rotation, but he won't be a particularly attractive fantasy play.

Sun Mar 13 202210:33Nationals Interested In Anibal Sanchez
The Washington Nationals are interested in bringing free-agent starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez back after his impressive showcase on Saturday. The 38-year-old right-hander received an offer 10 minutes after his showcase on Saturday, that's how impressive he was. Sanchez didn't sign a contract last year because he didn't think the offers he received were substantial enough. He pitched for the Nationals in 2019 and 2020, going a combined 15-13 with a 4.52 ERA and 1.37 WHIP while striking out 177 and walking 76 in 41 starts over 219 innings pitched. Sanchez really struggled in the shortened 2020 season to the tune of a 6.62 ERA and 1.66 WHIP in 53 innings, so fantasy managers won't be in any rush to add him if he is back in the major leagues in 2022.

Sat Mar 12 202214:24Anibal Sanchez Impresses During Saturday Showcase
Free-agent pitcher Anibal Sanchez had a showcase in front of multiple clubs on Saturday. According to Jon Heyman, Sanchez was impressive during the showcase and even received an offer just 10 minutes after he finished throwing. However, Heyman didn't release information on which team extended said offer. The 38-year-old Sanchez didn't pitch in the majors in 2021. He turned down offers prior to last season due to COVID-19 concerns. During the middle of the 2021 season, Sanchez reportedly turned down offers because he didn't believe they were substantial enough. We'll see what kind of offers come to him this time around. He'll be looking to bounce back from his last spin in the majors, when he struggled with a 6.62 ERA over 53 innings with the Washington Nationals in 2020.

Sun Sep 20 202016:23Marlins keep up playoff push, edge Nats to open twinbill
MIAMI (AP) — Brandon Kintzler escaped a bases-loaded jam to end it and the Miami Marlins kept up their playoff push, scratching out a late unearned run off Max Scherzer to beat the Washington Nationals 2-1 Sunday to open a doubleheader. The Marlins began the day with a half-game lead over Philadelphia for second place in the NL East. The top two teams in each division are assured spots in the expanded postseason field — two extra wild-card clubs will advance, too. A two-out error by first baseman Eric Thames in the sixth inning gave Miami the go-ahead run. Washington threatened in the seventh and final inning when Luis Garcia led off with a single and pinch hitter Yadiel Hernandez followed with a ground-rule double off Kintzler. After Andrew Stevenson flied out to short right, Trea Turner hit a hard smash to Kintzler, who got Garcia out on a rundown that left runners still at second and third. Juan Soto was intentionally walked before Kintzler struck out Kurt Suzuki for his 10th save. Matt... [More]

Sat Feb 29 202018:24Nats' Corbin smooth in spring debut, goes 2 innings vs Cards
JUPITER, Fla. (AP) — Patrick Corbin's longer-than-normal wait for his first spring start left him more refreshed that rusty. The Washington Nationals lefty made his Grapefruit League debut on Saturday, allowing one run to St. Louis in two quick innings of a 6-3 loss.“I liked what I saw out of Pat today,” Nationals manager Dave Martinez said. “He had some nice fluidity. He was getting extended, which was kind of nice. He said he felt good.”Corbin threw 202 innings regular-season innings last year and 23 1/3 more in the postseason, prompting the Nationals to slow his workload in the spring. He's the last of the reigning World Series champions' starters to appear in a spring game.In the postseason, Corbin started three games and made five relief appearances. “For a lot of us last year we threw a lot more than we have in the past or longer,” Corbin said. “I think it could help.”Corbin needed only 24 pitches to complete two innings. He walked two, and the lone hit he surrendered was a wind-aided,... [More]
