Fri Mar 18 2011 | 09:06 | Mets reassign Tankersley to minors camp |
Mets reassigned LHP Taylor Tankersley, OF Jason Pridie, RHP Ryota Igarashi, INF Russ Adams and C Dusty Ryan to minor league camp. |
Tankersley didn't quite do enough to win a left specialist role this spring, allowing eight hits and five earned runs in 3 2/3 innings of Grapefruit League play. The others were obvious cuts as well. |

Wed Jan 19 2011 | 15:21 | Mets open to signing another lefty reliever |
Mets manager Terry Collins said Wednesday that the club would likely sign another pitcher to compete with Taylor Tankersley for the left-handed specialist role during spring training. |
"We're hoping to sign another one," said Collins. "It certainly would make it a little bit better for us if we had another one coming into camp, and I know Sandy [Alderson] is working with a couple of people." It's not clear who the Mets may be talking to at the moment, but some notable free agents include Ron Mahay, Tim Byrdak, Joe Beimel, Dennys Reyes and Mark Hendrickson. |

Wed Jan 12 2011 | 12:49 | Mets ink Taylor Tankersley to minors deal |
Mets signed LHP Taylor Tankersley to a minor league contract. |
He'll also get an invite to spring training. Consistent with most of Sandy Alderson's transactions this winter, Tankersley is another bounceback candidate. He missed the entire 2009 season following elbow surgery and posted an ugly 7.50 ERA over 27 appearances with the Marlins in 2010. Though his command has never been a strength, the Mets hope he can get back to the potential he showed as a LOOGY-type in 2006 and 2007. |
Wed Jan 12 2011 | 00:06 | Report: Mets to ink Tankersley to minors deal |
The Mets have agreed to a minor league contract with left-hander Taylor Tankersley, according to Dave Gershman of the SPANdemonium blog. |
The report was confirmed by MLB Trade Rumors. Tankersley, who turns 28 in March, will also receive an invite to spring training. The former 2004 first-round pick posted a 7.50 ERA in 27 appearances with the Marlins in 2010, his first season back from surgery to repair a stress fracture in his left elbow. Tankersley has always struggled with his control (5.3 BB/9), but can miss bats (8.8 K/9) and has held left-handed batters to a .223/.313/.372 batting line and a 686 OPS during his career. He's no Pedro Feliciano, but as with most of Sandy Alderson's signings this winter, there's rebound potential here. |
