Martinez was non-tendered by the Braves over the winter after undergoing shoulder surgery last July. However, he's back to 100 percent now and could be a useful bullpen piece somewhere.

Martinez made just two appearances in the big leagues this year and eventually required season-ending shoulder surgery, so the Braves weren't going to give him a raise from the $749,750 he made in 2013. The 31-year-old will likely have to accept a minor league deal.

Martinez revealed the news himself on Twitter before Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez even knew about it. "I knew it was a possibility," Gonzalez said. It's not clear what kind of surgery Martinez had or how long he'll be sidelined, but it seems likely that his season is over.
