Wed May 18 201110:34Chris Resop moved to long relief
Chris Resop has been moved to the long relief role.
Resop has given up nine earned runs in his past seven appearances, leading to the demotion. "We really don't have a long guy," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said. "For a couple innings, he's definitely capable of throwing two innings." Daniel McCutchen, who boasts a 0.53 ERA and 0.94 WHIP, will now move into a short relief role after serving as the long man.

Thu Feb 3 201101:24Chris Resop will remain in bullpen
Despite starting all 17 of his minor league games last season, Chris Resop will be in the bullpen in 2011.
Pirates president Frank Coonelly said, "we think that other players will grab the fifth spot in the rotation, and Chris gives us the best chance to win by pitching out of the bullpen." Resop was a dominant starter at Triple-A Gwinnett in 2010 before shifting to the bullpen after his August call-up to the majors. The versatile right-hander excelled in this role, too, posting a 1.89 ERA in 19 innings. He might not win many games for a team whose last winning record was in 1992, but he is expected to be a valuable middle reliever on the rebuilding Pirates.

Chris Resop will pitch as a reliever next season.

GM Neal Huntington said that Chris Resop has "a little tenderness" in right elbow.
For now, rest is the only prescription. This almost surely means Resop's season is over. He pitched very well after landing in Pittsburgh in early August, boasting a 2.04 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 21 strikeouts over 17 2/3 innings.

Tue Jun 15 201011:18Braves recall Chris Resop from AAA Gwinnett
Braves recalled RHP Chris Resop from Triple-A Gwinnett.
An out-clause in Resop's contract forced the Braves' hand, though he should do just fine in the big leagues. Through 13 starts this season at Triple-A Gwinnett, the 27-year-old posted a 5-2 record, a 1.84 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP and 87 strikeouts. He will operate mainly in middle relief.
Fri Jun 11 201013:41Braves still looking to trade Resop
The Braves are shopping Triple-A Gwinnett's Chris Resop in advance of his June 15 contract opt-out.
There's a chance that the Braves will call up Resop and have him replace Jesse Chavez in the pen, but they could have gone that route a month ago if they wanted to. It seems as though they'd rather trade the 27-year-old, who has had an outstanding year in Gwinnett's rotation. He's 5-2 with a 1.84 ERA after pitching a one-hitter on Thursday.
