Abreu is in Sunday's starting lineup, but will be pulled in-game to receive recognition, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports.
Abreu announced his retirement from baseball on Friday, and manager Terry Collins will award him one last start to cap off an 18-year career. Although he's listed on the lineup card, he's unlikely to receive a full day's work, so those in daily leagues may want to take note.

The 40-year-old outfielder owns a career regular season .291/.395/.475 batting line and participated in four postseasons, playing in 20 games.

The Mets will purchase Abreu's contract prior to Tuesday's game against the Rockies, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports.
Per MLB rules, teams can't bring a player back onto their major league roster until a full 30 days have lapsed since their release, so Abreu will have to wait one more day before rejoining the Mets. Since the 40-year-old Abreu wouldn't seem to have a future with the Mets beyond the final month of the season, don't expect him to see much more than the occasional spot start or pinch-hitting opportunity.

Abreu will join the Mets' 40 man roster for their upcoming homestand, the team's official site reports.

Abreu re-signed with the Mets on a minor league contract Thursday. He was assigned to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Released by the Mets on Sunday, Abreu scanned the market for a few days and received little interest from clubs on a major league contract, prompting him to rejoin the organization. The 40-year-old will have the opportunity to keep his career going, but his lack of a 40-man roster spot may preclude him from earning a promotion to the Mets again this season.

Mon Aug 4 201416:29Abreu designated for assignment by Mets on Monday
Abreu was designated for assignment by the Mets on Monday.
Abreu may finally be nearing the end of the line, as he'll likely have played his last game with the Mets after posting a .238 average and 14 RBI over 122 plate appearances. It's unlikely the 40-year-old is claimed off waivers, and if that holds true, he probably won't be headed to Triple-A. Abreu's career spanned 18 years, over which he's batted .291 and collected 288 homers and 400 stolen bases. Kirk Nieuwenhuis has been recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas to take his spot on the roster.

The 40-year-old has proven to be an excellent addition for New York, batting .319/.386/.472 across 39 games.

Bobby Abreu went 2-for-4 with two RBI, a walk, a stolen base, and a run scored in Friday's exrtra-inning loss to the Phillies.

Abreu hit pretty well this spring in the Grapefruit League, but he's no longer a competent outfielder at age 40 and the Phillies didn't want to limit their bench versatility. Abreu will likely try to land with an American League team. He hasn't appeared in a major league game since the 2012 season.

That announcement was made on Wednesday in camp. Abreu hit well this spring, but the 40-year-old outfielder looked stiff on defense and the Phillies can't afford to carry too many one-dimensional bench players. He is far better suited for an American League roster.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Abreu will receive a salary of $800,000 if he makes the Phillies.
