Mon Jul 27 201513:08Rice hopes to resume NFL playing career
Rice hopes to resume his NFL playing career, ESPN.com reports.
ESPN.com further notes that some teams have privately discussed the possibility of bringing in Rice, but to date, there is nothing imminent on that front. Rice has not played since his contract was terminated by the Ravens after a video of him punching his then-fiancee Janay Palmer surfaced. The running back, who turned 28 in January, last saw regular season action with Baltimore in 2013, carrying 214 times for 660 yards, for an average of 3.1 yards per carry.
Mon May 25 201500:14Rice probably isn't on Cowboys' radar
Rice probably isn't on the Cowboys' radar, ESPN.com reports.
The Cowboys are a high-profile team with uncertainty at running back, and Rice is arguably the best-known unsigned player at the position. For that reason, the two parties may be connected in rumors, but it's highly unlikely the Cowboys would be willing to take the associated PR hit, especially after previously signing DE Greg Hardy. While Hardy was a Pro Bowl-caliber pass rusher when last on the field, Rice appeared to be completely washed up in 2013. It's increasingly unclear if the 28-year-old Rice will even have the chance to compete for an NFL roster spot.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, at least four teams have expressed interest in Rice, who was reinstated by the NFL earlier this week.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport echoes that notion, indicating that a "handful of teams have expressed interest" in the running back. That said, while Rice is reportedly in good shape and ready to play, both reports suggest that it will be difficult for the running back to catch on with a team this season.
Fri Nov 28 201415:12Rice reinstated to NFL
After winning an appeal of his indefinite suspension, Rice has been reinstated to the NFL, according to ESPN.com.
Rice, who had been suspended indefinitely for violating the league's personal conduct policy, is thus eligible to sign with any NFL team, after having been released by the Ravens on Sept. 8.
Tue Oct 21 201414:42Ray Rice: Appeal Hearing Nov. 5
Rice's appeal hearing of his indefinite suspension from the NFL will be heard Nov. 5 and 6, ESPN reports.
The NFLPA is appealing Rice's suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy following his involvement in a domestic abuse incident with his then-fiancee. If Rice's appeal is approved, he could be eligible to sign with a team and potentially return this season.

Rice officially filed an appeal Tuesday against the indefinite suspension levied to him by the NFL, Albert Breer of NFL.com reports.
Since Rice was already suspended for two games by the NFL prior to his release from the Ravens, he'll appeal on the basis that he's already being punished twice for the same domestic assault charge. Given the unprecedented nature of this type of appeal, it's uncertain how things may play out here. In any case, it would still seem unlikely that Rice would end up playing this season, given the PR nightmare his signing would almost certainly create.

Rice won't be allowed to sign with NFL or CFL squads during his indefinite suspension, Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports.
Those organizations in need of running back help must look elsewhere, after an incriminating video of Rice emerged Monday. As for his previous employer, the Ravens will turn to Bernard Pierce, Justin Forsett, and Lorenzo Taliaferro out of the backfield.
Mon Sep 8 201415:02Rice suspended indefinitely by NFL
Rice, who was released by the Ravens on Monday, has been suspended indefinitely by the NFL, NFL.com reports.
Per the league's official site, the decision to extend Rice's suspension was based on new video evidence that became available Monday. As a result, it doesn't seem likely that we will see Rice in an NFL uniform any time soon, with the Ravens now moving on with a backfield that includes Bernard Pierce, Justin Forsett and Lorenzo Taliaferro.
Mon Sep 8 201414:34The Ravens have terminated Rice's contract
The Ravens have terminated Rice's contract, the team's official site reports.
The move was made by the team Monday after a new video emerged showing Rice punching his then-fiancee in an Atlantic City hotel elevator in February. The team will now move on with a backfield comprised of Bernard Pierce, Justin Forsett and Lorenzo Taliaferro.

New video has emerged showing Rice punching his then-fiancee in the face in an Atlantic City hotel elevator in February, ESPN reports. The NFL has said it wasn't previously aware of the video.
Previous video showed Rice dragging his then-fiancee from an elevator which later resulted in a two-game suspension from the NFL. Rice will have a third-degree charge of aggravated assault from the incident dropped if he completes a pretrial diversion program for a minimum of one year. Despite calls for a revised or longer suspension for Rice in light of the new video, neither the NFL nor local authorities have yet indicated they'll revisit his punishment.
Thu Aug 28 201418:44Ray Rice: (Shoulder) Will Not Play Thursday
Rice (shoulder) will not play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Saints, Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports.
With Rice presumed out and Bernard Pierce still recovering from concussion symptoms, look for Lorenzo Taliaferro to once again see a high volume of carries, with Justin Forsett also in the mix. Rice is dealing with a minor shoulder bruise, but as a starter, he likely would have sat the exhibition finale anyway. His first game action is currently slated for Sep. 21 against Cleveland.
Sun Aug 24 201413:51Though he suited up for contest
Though he suited up for the contest, Rice (shoulder) did not see any action in Saturday's preseason game against Washington, ESPN.com reports.
"That was our plan this week," coach John Harbaugh noted when asked about Rice not playing Saturday despite suiting up for the game. It's possible that the team was simply playing it safe with the running back, who suffered a bruised shoulder last weekend. It remains to be seen if Rice (who was able to practice this past week) plays in Thursday's preseason finale. If he sits out that contest, his next game action won't come until Sept. 21 against the Browns, given that Rice will be under suspension for the first two games of the upcoming regular season.
Mon Aug 18 201413:57Rice (shoulder) practicing Monday
Rice (shoulder) is practicing Monday, the Baltimore Sun reports.
Rice was forced to leave Saturday's preseason game with a shoulder injury, but fortunately an X-ray on the ailment returned negative and coach John Harbaugh indicated Rice suffered merely a bruised shoulder. With the injury not considered serious, Rice was back in action at Monday's practice session, proving Saturday's issue to be a non-factor.

Coach John Harbaugh indicated that the shoulder injury Rice sustained Saturday is a bruise and that the running isn't expected to be sidelined for long, the Baltimore Sun reports. "It shouldn't be anything too serious," Harbaugh said after Saturday's preseason contest. "We should be OK."
Assuming his shoulder injury is indeed minor, it shouldn't be an issue upon Rice's return from a two-game suspension to start the regular season. While Rice is sidelined out of the gate, Bernard Pierce -- who drew the start Saturday -- is in line to head the Ravens' backfield, with Justin Forsett and rookie Lorenzo Taliaferro also in the mix.
Sat Aug 16 201420:22Rice had to leave Saturday's preseason game with shoulder injury
Rice had to leave Saturday's preseason game with a shoulder injury, but his X-rays came back negative, the Baltimore Sun reports.
Rice and the Ravens certainly had a scare Saturday when he went down with his shoulder injury. Because of his suspension, it's unlikely that his shoulder issue will affect his already shortened season.

Rice, who is suspended for the first two games of the regular season, gained 17 yards on three carries in Thursday's preseason opener against the 49ers.
Rice looked smaller and quicker than he did last season, but he also ceded some of the first-team work to Bernard Pierce, who scored from two yards out on the Ravens' opening drive. Rice was done for the day after that opening drive, while Pierce stayed in to register 10 carries for 37 yards and a touchdown. Pierce is clearly the favorite to start Week 1, but Rice figures to be right back in the mix once his suspension is served. For those who can afford to wait two weeks and are willing to accept significant risk, Rice is an intriguing option once the top running backs are gone.
Tue Jul 29 201411:00Ray Rice 'sure looks good' at Ravens camp
According to the Baltimore Sun, suspended RB Ray Rice "sure has looked good in training camp."
Per beat writer Mike Preston, Rice had two long runs over the weekend where he "looked like the Rice of old," and "his cuts were excellent." It's hard to get overly bullish about Rice following a miserable 2013 campaign and now entering 2014 on suspension, but he'll be someone to track closely this preseason.

Mon Jul 28 201408:54Ray Rice does not appeal suspension
Ray Rice did not appeal his two-game suspension.
Rice is clearly in no position to try to get his ban shortened after the NFL let him off with a slap on the wrist. He'll miss Week 1 against the Steelers and Week 2 against the Bengals before getting back with the team on the Monday of Week 3. Bernard Pierce will handle feature back duties in the meantime.
