Sat Jun 21 201419:28Le'Ron McClain hopes to sign before camp
Free agent FB Le'Ron McClain expects to sign with a team before training camp.
McClain said he's been training regularly since his release from the Chargers in March. He's reportedly shed 15 pounds and remains committed to playing this season. 29-year-old McClain graded out as a top-15 lead blocker by Pro Football Focus in 2013. He should only require a veteran-minimum deal.

Tue Mar 4 201412:09Chargers release FB Le'Ron McClain
Chargers released FB Le'Ron McClain.
McClain was set to count over $3 million against the cap in the final year of his contract. The Bolts save $2.5 million against the cap with the move. In coach Mike McCoy's first year running the offense, McClain, 29, saw his snaps reduced significantly. It was an easy call for GM Tom Telesco. Due to his still relatively young age and the fact that he's missed just one career game, McClain is now the top free agent lead blocker. It's a position that isn't used much anymore, though.

Tue Feb 4 201415:59Chargers FB McClain a candidate for release
Chargers FB Le'Ron McClain is a candidate to be released.
McClain is due a non-guaranteed $2.5 million in 2014, the final year of his contract. With the Chargers a bit over the projected salary cap, it should be an easy decision to cut ties with McClain after he played just 12 percent of the offensive snaps this past season. The 29-year-old is still one of the better lead blockers.

Sun Nov 10 201318:43Le'Ron McClain leaves game with ankle injury
Chargers FB Le'Ron McClain was forced from Sunday's game against the Broncos with an ankle injury, and will not return.
An extremely banged up Chargers offensive line is now without its lead blocker in the running game. The quick rule out suggests McClain is dealing with a high-ankle sprain.

Thu May 17 201210:59Turner praises Le'Ron McClain's versatility
Coach Norv Turner indicated that he expects FB Le'Ron McClain to get touches on offense in addition to his lead-blocking duties.
McClain is a better lead blocker than tailback, but he could end up ranking second in the Chargers' backfield in touches behind Ryan Mathews. "He's a very versatile player and he's a big old-school fullback," Turner said. "But he's a good runner, he's got good catching skills and I think he'll be a big addition."

Sun Apr 15 201209:12Chargers in no rush at running back
Chargers GM A.J. Smith says adding a backup running back is "not a pressing thing".
Smith mentioned both lines as the team's priority this offseason and said that adding a No. 2 running back is "on the back burner right now." He goes on to point out the long list of veteran backs still available. The Chargers are very likely to target a back in the middle rounds of this month's draft, but Ryan Grant, Joseph Addai, and Jackie Battle are among the available free agents at the position. Currently, Le'Ron McClain is slotted in as the No. 2.

Wed Mar 28 201217:57McClain could see carries this season
The Union-Tribune San Diego feels Le'Ron McClain will see time at tailback this season.
McClain has been eying more of a ball-carrying role since leaving Baltimore two seasons ago. He handled 232 carries back in 2008, but has only 89 since. The Chargers are sure to add some tailback depth to compete with Ryan Mathews and Curtis Brinkley, so expecting anything more than a half dozen carries per game from McClain is irrational. He won't be worth fantasy consideration unless Mathews goes down with an injury.

Wed Mar 14 201219:09Le'Ron McClain signs on with Chargers
Chargers signed FB Le'Ron McClain, formerly of the Chiefs, to a three-year deal.
Free agent Mike Tolbert is likely moving on, which would certainly be good news for the fantasy prospects of Ryan Mathews. McClain thinks he's a tailback, but he's really a true lead-blocker and pass-protector with limited rushing ability. In his career, McClain has averaged just 3.8 yards-per-carry on 329 totes.

Mon Feb 27 201201:23Crennel wants to re-sign FB McClain
Coach Romeo Crennel indicated the Chiefs would like to re-sign free agent FB Le'Ron McClain.
"He's versatile. He can do several things," Crennel said. "He can block. He can catch the ball out of the backfield. He's good in (blitz) pickup." McClain has also been connected to Baltimore, where he would ostensibly return as a backup at both tailback and fullback.

Thu Dec 29 201111:13Le'Ron McClain coudl get some carries Sunday
Interim coach Romeo Crennel suggested that Le'Ron McClain could get some carries in Sunday's finale.
Jackie Battle (foot) is out. McClain has just 13 carries in 15 games this season, but did rush 232 times in one season for the Ravens back in 2008. Look for some kind of three-headed monster with Thomas Jones, Dexter McCluster and McClain.

The NFL is expected to review the Week 7 1-yard touchdown that was credited to FB Le'Ron McClain.

Fri Sep 23 201110:19McClain will remain the lead blocker
Despite the loss of Jamaal Charles, FB Le'Ron McClain's primary role will continue to be lead blocker.
"Everything has been the same," McClain said. "I just got the game plan today and was out there at fullback doing my thing." McClain's role is subject to change if Thomas Jones and Dexter McCluster falter. As of now, though, he's without fantasy value.

Sun Sep 18 201117:06McClain carries the ball four times in loss
Le'Ron McClain carried the ball four times four 15 yards in Kansas City's Week 2 loss to the Lions.
He added two catches for 12 yards. McClain could be in for a bigger workload with Jamaal Charles looking likely to miss some time with a knee injury, but won't be worth a look in fantasy leagues unless he emerges as the Chiefs' goal-line back, something he is unlikely to do.

Fri Aug 5 201110:42McClain won't be getting carries
Coach Todd Haley confirmed that FB Le'Ron McClain will not take any carries away from Jamaal Charles or Thomas Jones.
McClain has been outspoken in the past about his desire to carry the rock previously. But Haley made it very clear to McClain what his role is. "I'm a fullback, and I'm here to win. Two things. Just two things: Getting Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones 1,000 (yards) apiece, that's what I'm here to do," McClain said.

Wed Aug 3 201117:03Chiefs finally seal the deal with McClain
Chiefs signed FB Le'Ron McClain.
The Chiefs have been in talks with McClain for nearly a week. McClain has made no secret about his desire for more carries in 2011, but he's not terribly likely to get them in Kansas City unless Thomas Jones appears to have lost another step in training camp. One of the best lead blockers in football, he should be a huge aid for Jamaal Charles as he looks to follow up his monster 2010 with another All-Pro campaign.

Fri Jul 29 201111:12Le'Ron McClain still expected to go to KC
The Chiefs are still expected to sign free agent FB Le'Ron McClain, although nothing is imminent.
We know that McClain badly wants a role as a ball-carrier, so perhaps he's still searching for that opportunity. As long as Thomas Jones sticks in Kansas City, there wouldn't be much room for McClain to do anything but lead block.

Mon Jul 25 201115:12Chiefs expected to have interest in McClain
The Chiefs are expected to show interest in FB Le'Ron McClain once free agency negotiating commences.
McClain would be an interesting short-yardage complement to Jamaal Charles. While he does have versatility to lead block as well as grind out tough yards, we wonder if McClain's addition could push Thomas Jones off the roster. Jones is going on age 33 and coming off a near-completely ineffective season.

Sat Jul 16 201112:33McClain still hoping for more touches
The Baltimore Sun believes free agent FB Le'Ron McClain is unlikely to return to the Ravens without "assurances" he'll get more than the 49 touches he did in 2010.
McClain has spent his entire offseason trying to get leaner and more explosive, but it seems hard to believe he'll generate much interest as anything other than the bruising lead-blocker he's been the past two seasons. He has more skills than the average fullback, but there's no reason to think he'll ever repeat his 251-touch 2008.

Wed Jul 13 201111:18McClain losing weight for running back role
Free agent FB Le'Ron McClain has lost weight and gained explosiveness this offseason in preparation for a bigger ball-carrying role in 2011.
McClain loves the Ravens and considers Baltimore his home, but he's willing to move if he's not promised a running back role. "The sick feeling I have in my stomach is I wish I could've done more [the last two years]," said McClain. "I wish I could've been more involved." The Ravens want McClain to set his market before committing to him.

Thu Jun 16 201121:06Fullback will be free agent priority for BAL
Coach John Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron have told GM Ozzie Newsome that a capable fullback is a priority in the Ravens "revamped" offense.
If the Ravens can't find common ground with free agent LeRon McClain, the Baltimore Sun suggests All-Pro Vonta Leach or veteran Lawrence Vickers will be considered. Newsome wants to sign a lead-blocker to a contract that covers four or five years.
