Ratliff (ankle) is active for Sunday's game against the Chiefs.
After serving a three-game suspension to begin the season and missing another game due to the ankle injury he sustained in the preseason, Ratliff is finally ready to make his 2015 debut. He's expected to start at the three-technique tackle spot, moving rookie Eddie Goldman to a bench role.

Ratliff (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Raiders.
The Bears added Ratliff back to the 53-man roster earlier this week after he completed his three-game suspension, but the defensive lineman is still feeling the effects of an ankle injury he suffered during the preseason. Ratliff had at least been able to participate in practice on a limited basis throughout the week, so there's some hope he'll be able to return to action next Sunday in Kansas City. With Ratliff out another week, Will Sutton and Eddie Goldman are likely to see extended snaps at nose tackle.

Ratliff has been added back to the Bears' 53-man roster after completing his three-game suspension, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
The Bears opened up a spot for Ratliff by trading away linebackers Jared Allen and Jon Bostic on Monday. Viewed as the Bears' top defensive lineman, Ratliff is expected to ascend back into the starting lineup at the three-technique tackle spot for the team's Week 4 matchup with the Raiders.
Mon Sep 7 201516:55Ratliff placed on Bears' reserve/suspended list over weekend
Ratliff was placed on the Bears' reserve/suspended list over the weekend, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
It's just a formality to open up a roster spot for the Bears while Ratliff sits out the first three games of the season for a violation of the league's substance-abuse policy. He'll reclaim a starting role at either defensive end or defensive tackle once he's activated for Week 4.

Ratliff is considered "week-to-week" after sustaining an ankle injury in Saturday's preseason loss to the Bengals, Jeff Dickerson of ESPN Chicago reports.
Ratliff is set to serve a three-game suspension to open the year stemming from a violation of the league's substance-abuse policy, so in all likelihood, the injury won't prevent him for taking the field when eligible Week 4 against the Raiders. Rookie Eddie Goldman, Will Sutton, and Jarvis Jenkins are the most likely candidates to see increased snaps along the defensive line while Ratliff misses the first three games.

Ratliff received a three-game suspension Monday for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
For a defense that has struggled mightily the last two seasons and is transitioning to a new 3-4 scheme this season, Ratliff's loss is a crushing blow, as he was slated to be an anchor for the defensive line as either an end or a three-technique tackle. According to the Tribune's Rich Campbell, the suspension stems from Ratliff's guilty plea in a January 2013 DWI arrest, which came when he was still a member of the Cowboys. Ratliff, who had 37 tackles and 6.5 sacks in just 11 games last season, is expected to be replaced by some combination of Eddie Goldman and Will Sutton on the interior or Jarvis Jenkins on the outside.

Ratliff finished the 2014 season with 37 tackles and 6.5 sacks over 11 games.
After getting cut by the Cowboys last October, Ratliff's days as an impact interior lineman looked to be over, but he's enjoyed a surprising renaissance since latching on with the Bears. Though much of his pass-rushing contributions came in a 3.5-sack performance in Week 7 against the Dolphins, Ratliff and Stephen Paea combined to form a stout duo along the defensive line. With one more year remaining on his contract, look for Ratliff to occupy the three-technique spot for the Bears again in 2015.

However, according to Pro Football Focus, he ranks fifth among defensive tackles in terms of pass rush productivity, so he could add to his 4.5 sacks against an offensive line that has surrendered 39 sacks of Matthew Stafford this season.

He's notched 27 tackles and 4.5 sacks on the season.

Ratliff accumulated seven stops in Sunday's 51-23 loss to the Patriots.
A week after supplying a stunning 3.5 sacks against the Dolphins, Ratliff didn't provide much of an impact as a pass rusher, logging no quarterback hits on the afternoon. That will probably be the norm for most weeks given Ratliff's standing as an interior player, but he should remain a decent source of tackles on the defensive line. He's delivered five tackles in three of the five games he's played this season.

Ratliff delivered perhaps the best performance of his career Sunday versus the Dolphins, contributing a team-leading seven tackles and 3.5 sacks.
Showing the pass-rushing skills that hadn't appeared since his Pro Bowl days with the Cowboys, Ratliff feasted on a vulnerable Dolphins offensive line that has struggled to protect the quarterback all season. Unfortunately, Ryan Tannehill carved up the Chicago secondary when he did receive enough time in the pocket, but Ratliff was still the Bears' shining star on an afternoon in which most of the team came out flat. It's hard to imagine him continuing to supply sacks from the defensive tackle spot with much regularity, however. From the start of the 2011 season through his first three games of 2014 -- a span of 30 contests -- Ratliff had registered 3.5 sacks in total.
