Bengals LCB Terence Newman (knee) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's Wild Card round game against San Diego.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports the Bengals were "relieved" by the diagnosis, fearing a more serious injury for their 35-year-old corner. Cincinnati was already missing RCB Leon Hall (Achilles'). Sat Mar 30 201300:33Bengals re-sign CB Newman 2-year, $5M deal
Bengals re-signed LCB Terence Newman to a two-year, $5 million contract.
Newman, entering his age-35 season, finished 2012 with 75 tackles, ten pass breakups, two picks, and a forced fumble across 15 starts. Experiencing a late-career renaissance, Newman graded out as a top-20 corner in Pro Football Focus' ratings. The Bengals were content to let him walk with 2012 first-rounder Dre Kirkpatrick set to take over at left cornerback, but Newman took less money to return to Cincinnati. Wed Mar 6 201321:13Bengals to make Newman, Pacman priorities
Bengals.com says the team's "first course of action when free agency starts" is to re-sign CBs Terence Newman and Adam "Pacman" Jones.
That would seem to indicate free agents RT Andre Smith and LB Rey Maualuga are on the back burner. Both Newman and Jones were pleasant surprises in 2012, but it's hard to count on a couple of 30-plus-year-old corners playing at that level for much longer. Cincinnati needs to maintain their superior pass rush to take pressure off the veteran back end of the defense.

Wed Feb 13 201321:56Bengals 'figure' to re-sign CBs Newman, Jones
Bengals.com "figures" the team will re-sign free agent CBs Terence Newman and Adam "Pacman" Jones.
Both Newman and Jones were pleasant surprises in 2012 as key contributors to the league's No. 7 pass defense. Jones graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 11 corner, while Newman checked in at No. 19. Both will be on the wrong side of 30 when the season kicks off, so neither should get more than a one- or two-year deal.

Sat Apr 14 201212:26Newman blames hamstring injury for poor play
Recently signed Bengals CB Terence Newman partially blames a previously undisclosed hamstring injury for his poor play with the Cowboys in 2011.
"I'm a rockhead about some things and I tried to play through it," he said. "I wanted to be there for my teammates and I ended up probably hurting them." Newman was so bad we'd like to chalk it up to injury, but he played similarly poorly in 2010. He needs a strong camp to be guaranteed a roster spot.
