He is expected to be able to resume throwing in four months. Dr. Anthony Romero performed the surgery at the Gold Coast Surgery Center in Chicago. Rodriguez has been strong out of the pen as of late, compiling a 2.45 ERA with 25 strikeouts over 18.1 innings since the start of June.
With Tyler Clippard very much on the trading block and the A's closer job possibly becoming open, Rodriguez is likely the leader in the A's pen to see save opportunities in Clippard's abscence. While the team may go with a committee approach, Rodriguez has been the most consistent righty in the A's pen recently and has the strikeout profile that teams like in the ninth inning.
Thu May 7 201510:46Rodriguez called up from Triple-A Nashville on Thursday
Rodriguez was called up from Triple-A Nashville on Thursday.
The 30-year-old righty's numbers were impressive with Nashville, posting a 2.81 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 16 innings. He will slot into the middle of the A's bullpen. Chad Smith was designated for assignment as a corresponding move.
Tue Dec 23 201414:35Rodriguez cleared waivers and outrighted to Triple-A
Rodriguez cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.
Rodriguez has had issues with control at virtually every stop, but he did show improvement last season with a 3.2 BB/9 at Triple-A Sacramento, his lowest since he was at High-A Rancho Cucamonga in 2006. Further, he posted a 1.97 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 53 strikeouts in 45.2 innings with Sacramento coming off Tommy John surgery, so it's rather surprising another team didn't take a chance on him on waivers.
Thu Dec 18 201422:19Rodriguez designated for assignment Thursday
Rodriguez was designated for assignment Thursday, ESPN.com reports.
With the Athletics needing to clear two more spots on their 40-man roster following a flurry of trading activity, Rodriguez became a necessary casualty. There's a good chance another team might be interested in scooping him up, however, after he turned in an ERA under 2.00 to go along with a 53:16 K:BB ratio over 45.2 innings at the Triple-A level last season.

Rodriguez signed a one-year contract with the A's on Tuesday, avoiding arbitration.
The 30-year-old right-hander returned from Tommy John surgery last season to post a 1.97 ERA and 10.4 K/9 in 38 appearances out of the bullpen at Triple-A Sacramento, and also worked seven strong innings with the big club as well. Rodriguez has shown an ability to miss bats consistently at each level, but he's struggled with his control in the majors (4.6 BB/9), which will likely preclude him from earning any save chances next season, at least early on.
