Matt Palmer will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his knee.
Palmer was a longshot to win a bullpen spot as a non-roster invitee, and the slim chance he had is obviously out the window now. The Dodgers didn't reveal a timetable for his return, but he shouldn't miss much of the start of the minor league season.

The bigger news is that this is essentially confirmation that Huston Street will be activated from the disabled list on Tuesday. Palmer, 33, allowed a pair of runs over two innings in three appearances with the Friars since he was promoted on May 20. He simply isn't a big league caliber pitcher. He'll clear waivers and return to Triple-A Tucson.

Tue Apr 19 201123:34Palmer dazzles in victory over Rangers
Matt Palmer held the Rangers to just one run over six innings on Tuesday night in a 15-4 win.

He's now 1-0 with a 4.22 ERA while filling in for Joel Pineiro after posting a 4.54 ERA and 17/20 K/BB ratio in 33 2/3 innings for the Angels last season. Palmer still isn't much of a fantasy option outside of very deep AL-only leagues.

Sun Mar 20 201117:45Matt Palmer roughed up by Colorado
Matt Palmer got lit up by the Rockies on Sunday, allowing 10 hits and six runs in four innings of work.
Attempting to make the Angels as a reliever, Palmer's spring ERA is now an ugly 7.62 through 13 innings. Considering he's entering his age-32 and is the owner of a career 4.40 ERA, his odds of getting many major league innings in 2011 are slim.

Tue Feb 15 201117:04Palmer using redesigned delivery
Matt Palmer is using a redesigned delivery this spring.
Palmer made the change after undergoing surgery on his right knee in October. With his new-found range of motion, he was able to drop lower in his delivery and get fuller arm extension. "With this delivery, it's more natural," explained Palmer. "It allows me to stay back longer and come through with my leg drive and extension. The past five or six years, with a back injury I had, I was going across my body. It wouldn't let me do it the natural way." Whether the change will make any difference in his perforamnce remains to be seen. Palmer had a 4.54 ERA and an ugly 17/20 K/BB ratio over 33 2/3 innings with the Angels last season.
