Tobin, who spent the 2011 season with the Rangers organization, appeared in 27 games for the Giants' Triple-A club in 2014, posting a 4.24 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 34.0 innings. The 27-year-old will primarily provide organizational depth.

Mason Tobin (elbow) threw for 10 teams Thursday and reportedly touched 94 mph, according to his agent, Steve Canter.
Tobin is coming back from his second Tommy John surgery, but it appears that he's now healthy. The 25-year-old has appeared in just four games over the last three years, but he put up some nice numbers in the minors back in 2007 and 2008, so someone will likely take a shot on him.

Cubs selected RHP Mason Tobin from the Angels with the eighth pick in the Rule 5 Draft; traded him to the Rangers for cash considerations.
Tobin underwent Tommy John surgery in April of 2009 and has made just three appearances over the past two seasons. However, he has a legitimate power arm, with a fastball that touches the mid-90s. Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said Thursday that he hopes Tobin can win a spot in the bullpen during spring training.
