Tue May 1403:18Yoshinobu Yamamoto Coughs Up Four Runs On Monday
Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto got knocked around early for four runs in 5 2/3 innings pitched in Monday's 6-4 win over the San Francisco Giants. He did not factor into the decision. The 25-year-old finished the night with six strikeouts and two walks before being chased with two runners on and two outs in the sixth inning. It was Yamamoto's worst start since Opening Day against the San Diego Padres, where he allowed five runs in one inning pitched. Most of the damage off Yamamoto was done early on a second-inning three-run home run by San Francisco Giants rookie Luis Matos. On Sunday, Yamamoto will look to get back on track and take advantage of a young Cincinnati Reds team whose offense ranks sixth in the league in strikeouts.

Wed May 810:24Yoshinobu Yamamoto Earns Fourth Win Tuesday
Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto picked up his fourth win of the season in Tuesday's 8-2 victory over the Marlins. The 25-year-old went eight innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs, but didn't walk a batter and struck out five. The two runs came off of a pair of solo home runs to Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Bryan De La Cruz. The outing was his fourth straight quality start and he has shown impressive command thus far with an 8:47 BB:K through eight starts. With a 4-1 record, 2.79 ERA, and 1.00 WHIP, the righty is making a strong case for NL Rookie of the Year, and in his next start he'll face off with the Giants next Monday in San Francisco.

Thu May 210:37Yoshinobu Yamamoto Picks Up Third Win
Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto held the Arizona Diamondback bats in check in Wednesday's 8-0 victory, picking up his third win of the season. The 25-year-old pitched six scoreless frames, allowing five hits and walking two while striking out five. He now owns a strong 2.91 ERA and 1.09 WHIP through seven starts, although excluding his first start of the season where he allowed five earned runs it would be a 1.64 ERA and 0.97 WHIP over the last six starts. The righty continues to look as good as advertised and takes on a Marlins team in his next start that is currently 8-24 while scoring the seventh-fewest runs in the league so far in 2024.

Thu Apr 2521:28Yoshinobu Yamamoto Tosses Gem Thursday
Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto tossed a gem on Thursday, working six shutout innings on four hits and just one walk while punching out seven as part of a narrow 2-1 win over the hosting Washington Nationals. After allowing five earned runs in his MLB debut against the San Diego Padres on March 21, the 25-year-old has now allowed a total of just six earned runs over his last five starts. As a result, he has managed to lower his ERA to 3.54 through six starts with 37 strikeouts against just six walks across 28 innings of work, going 2-1 in that time. His next start is scheduled for Tuesday in Arizona to take on the D-backs in a key NL West clash.

Sun Mar 3108:35Yoshinobu Yamamoto Dominant In Second Start
After getting roughed up in his first start during the Seoul Series against the Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto bounced back nicely in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Cardinals. Yamamoto came out firing, striking out the first batter of the game on three pitches, proceeded to strike out the side, and ended up tossing five innings of scoreless baseball. He allowed just two hits in the outing, didn't walk a batter, and struck out five. Now that's what the Dodgers expected when they signed the 25-year-old in the offseason. His next start lines up with the Chicago Cubs in Wrigley.

Thu Mar 2109:50Yoshinobu Yamamoto Lit Up In Debut
Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto only lasted one inning in his regular season debut versus the San Diego Padres on Thursday. Yamamoto was hit hard and allowed four hits, five runs and one walk, but did record two strikeouts. The 25-year-old out of Japan came over with huge expectations after signing a 12-year, $325 million contract this offseason. Although it is still plenty early to write the book on the righty, he also struggled mightily in the Spring Training to the tune of an ugly 8.38 ERA, but had 14 strikeouts over 9 2/3 innings. The strikeouts have been about the only thing going for Yamamoto in his young career, but he was one of the highest touted pitchers to come over from overseas to the MLB and the potential is certainly there for him to turn things around. Despite the unfavorable results early on, he might make for a good buy-low option to acquire from managers that have already hit the panic button.

Tue Mar 1200:34Tyler Glasnow, Yoshinobu Yamamoto To Start Korea Series Games
Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitchers Tyler Glasnow and Yoshinobu Yamamoto will pitch the first and second games of the regular season, respectively in Korea against the San Diego Padres. Glasnow has looked sharp so far this spring, while Yamamoto has struggled in limited appearances. Both pitchers should serve as high-end fantasy options this season, as Yamamoto was perhaps the most hyped free-agent pitcher this off-season and Glasnow has shown dominance in the big leagues when he was healthy with the Rays.

Thu Mar 710:44Yoshinobu Yamamoto Allows Six Hits, Five Earned Runs In Second Spring Start
Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto wasn't nearly as sharp in his second spring start, a 12-9 Cactus League win over the Chicago White Sox. Yamamoto threw three innings, allowing five earned runs on six hits, three walks, and four strikeouts. Despite what the box score might suggest, the righty wasn't hit all that hard as three of the six hits were infield singles and a fourth hit was a bunt single. The three walks in three innings were a bit surprising, however, but the good news is he still averaged more than a K per inning and hasn't given up a long ball through five spring innings. The 25-year-old will look to get back on track next time out.

Wed Mar 612:35Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow Lined Up For Korea Series
Both Los Angeles Dodgers right-handers Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Tyler Glasnow are being lined up to pitch in the two-game series in Korea against the division-rival San Diego Padres on March 20-21. Yamamoto is scheduled to throw three to four innings against the Chicago White Sox in a Cactus League game on Wednesday, while Glasnow will go four innings in a B game. Both Yamamoto and Glasnow will be low-end No. 1 starting options for fantasy managers in the early rounds of upcoming fantasy drafts. The 25-year-old Yamamoto was dominant in Japan and is expected to have a seamless transition in the States in 2024 while serving as LA's ace. Glasnow has already showed dominance in the big leagues with the Rays, but staying healthy has been his issue.

Thu Feb 2910:41Yoshinobu Yamamoto Pounds Zone, Displays Arsenal In Spring Debut
Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto made his much-anticipated spring debut on Wednesday in a 6-4 Cactus League loss to the Texas Rangers. The loss was not in any way attributable to Yamamoto's performance, however, as he tossed two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and no walks while striking out three. In all, the righty threw 19 pitches, 16 of which went for strikes, and he utilized his fastball, curveball, and splitter with resounding success. If it wasn't already, it is now apparent why he was able to win three consecutive Sawamura Awards (NPB equivalent to the Cy Young), and fantasy managers who invested in him have some reassurance in their selection. Currently going off draft boards at 53rd overall (11th starting pitcher), his ADP may creep higher towards RotoBaller's bullish rank of 41st overall (10th starting pitcher) after this strong debut.
