Smith completed 16-of-30 passes for just 181 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's game against the Bears. He also gained 21 yards on three carries.
The veteran failed to capitalize on a favorable matchup, as only one receiver not named Jeremy Maclin caught more than one pass, which explains the inefficiency. Smith failed to top 200 yards passing for just the second time this season, and he could be forced into some extra throws in the future, as Kansas City adjusts to the likely loss of Jamaal Charles to a knee injury. Charles' absence would arguably harm Smith's fantasy value more than it helps, as the former was a large part of the passing game as the centerpiece of the Chiefs' attack. Smith and company will begin this new phase of their season in Minnesota in Week 6.

Smith completed 31-of-45 passes for 386 yards in Sunday's game against the Bengals. He also rushed five times for 25 yards in the 36-21 defeat.
The veteran posted his highest yardage output of the season, but he could not cash in with a touchdown, as the Chiefs were limited to seven field goals in the game. Smith has put together some respectable stat lines this season, with an improved group of skill players around him, and he is currently on pace to shatter his career-high in passing yards. Week 3 will pit Smith against a Bears team that has already allowed 10 passing touchdowns this season.

Smith completed 24-of-40 passes for 290 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Monday night's loss to the Packers.
Smith also rushed six times for 33 yards Monday night. The veteran's 290 yards marked a season-high, but mostly came after the Chiefs fell behind early, thus resulting in an uncharacteristic 40 passing attempts. While Smith also made a poor decision on his interception, he'll be relieved by having finally thrown a touchdown pass to a wide receiver, as new addition Jeremy Maclin found pay dirt Monday and displayed a solid understanding with Smith throughout the game.

Smith completed 16 of 25 passes for 191 yards, with no touchdowns and two interceptions in Thursday's 31-24 loss to the Broncos.
Smith took a beating from the Denver pass rush, but he was also responsible for a number of mistakes. The Chiefs were either leading or tied until the final 30 seconds, which contributed to a 29:25 run:pass ratio. Smith did pitch in 15 yards on three carries, but it wasn't nearly enough to save his night. He'll draw a more favorable matchup next time out, facing the Packers at Lambeau Field on Monday Night Football.

Smith completed 22-of-33 passes for 243 yards and three touchdowns, and added 15 rushing yards on nine carries in Sunday's win over the Texans.
Smith started hot in this one as the Chiefs raced out to a 27-9 halftime lead, connecting with tight end Travis Kelce for two scores then finding running back Jamaal Charles for a third. Smith failed to throw a touchdown to a wide receiver after going all of 2014 without one, but owners won't care if the veteran quarterback keeps up putting up performances like this one. The veteran only managed to connect with receiver Jeremy Maclin on five of nine targets, but the pair should be able to provide more value going forward as they build a rapport.

Smith was sharp in Friday's preseason game against Tennessee, completing 16-of-18 pass attempts for 171 yards and two touchdowns.
Smith played most of the first half, before giving way to backup Aaron Murray. For the second straight week, Smith tossed a touchdown pass to Jeremy Maclin, as the new duo appear to be on the same page. Smith also utilized his other big weapon, hooking up with Travis Kelce on a 34-yard pass and later on an eight-yard touchdown. He's never been an elite fantasy QB, but if the preseason is any indication, Smith might post better passing numbers this year, with Maclin around and Kelce emerging as big-time playmaker.

Smith completed 11-of-18 passes for 81 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the Kansas City's second preseason game.
Smith connected with Jeremy Maclin on a 3-yard touchdown pass, but also tossed a pick-six to Bobby Wagner just before halftime. Smith is now 17-of-28 for 122 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions this preseason. He is likely to see little or no playing time against the Titans on Friday.

Smith completed six of 10 passes for 42 yards and an interception in Saturday's preseason opener against the Cardinals.
Smith badly underthrew an open receiver on the interception, tossing an ugly wobbler while leaning away from the pass rush. He may have to deal with shaky offensive line play this season, but new No. 1 wide receiver Jeremy Maclin represents an enormous upgrade over Dwayne Bowe. The Chiefs also hope to get a healthier season from Jamaal Charles and another step toward stardom from Travis Kelce.
Wed Jun 3 201512:38Smith spent time in offseason working on footwork
Smith spent time in the offseason working on his footwork, throwing motion and decision-making, Adam Teicher of ESPN reports.
Smith completed 65 percent or his passes last season, ranking 10th in the league in that category. While he's never really had problems in the turnover department (throwing just 6 interceptions last season), the veteran quarterback doesn't throw deep balls very often, leading to defenders creeping down into the box. Smith should benefit from the offseason addition of Jeremy Maclin, and stretching the field more would benefit the running game as well.
Mon Apr 20 201517:19Smith (spleen) cleared for football activities
Smith (spleen) has been cleared for football activities, ESPN.com reports.
Smith missed the Chiefs' regular season finale due to a lacerated spleen, but after a few months off, the signal-caller has been given the green light to resume playing. As a result, Smith was able to throw to receivers during Monday's opening voluntary offseason workout and should be fine heading into the upcoming campaign.

Smith - who missed Sunday's regular season finale against the Chargers due to a lacerated spleen - finished the 2014 season with 3,265 yards, 18 touchdowns and six interceptions. He added 254 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Smith posted another efficient season under center, but numbers that aren't eye-popping enough to make him a prime fantasy candidate. The deep ball isn't his specialty, leading to few big plays and ineffectiveness for most of the receivers. The Chiefs didn't have much for him among the wideouts this season, however, with Donnie Avery, Junior Hemingway and A.J. Jenkins all suffering injuries and leaving the corps depleted. The late emergence of Albert Wilson could be beneficial in 2015, as he appears to be the favorite to take on the no. 2 receiver spot and gives the team a threat to stretch the field. Still, Smith doesn't figure to do much more than he has done over the past couple season with the Chiefs, and the rushing game with Jamaal Charles and Knile Davis still figures to be the primary form of offensive production for the Chiefs.
Fri Dec 26 201412:19Alex Smith: Lacerated Spleen
Smith has lacerated spleen and will not play in Sunday's game against the Chargers, ESPN's Adam Teicher reports.
As a result, Chase Daniel is in line to start Sunday's game, and beyond -- should the Chiefs qualify for the postseason -- with team trainer Rick Burkholder indicating that the type of injury that Smith is dealing with typically takes about six week to recover from.

Smith completed 31-of-45 passes for 311 yards against the Steelers, adding two carries for 14 yards.
While Smith didn't finish the day with a bad statline, he and the Chiefs were unable to finish off drives and failed to score a touchdown on the day. Smith was also under constant duress in the pocket Sunday, as he was sacked six times and hit eight. He will look for a turnaround next Sunday when he faces a Chargers defense that allowed 35 points to a previously struggling 49ers offense Saturday.

Smith completed 18-of-30 passes for a season-high 297 yards and two touchdowns Sunday against the Raiders, also rushing three times for 17 yards.
Smith completed the Chiefs' longest pass of the season Sunday as well, a 70-yard touchdown pass to Knile Davis. Of the 70 yards, 65 came after the catch, however, as the defender covering Davis slipped and left him open. He also completed a 48 yard pass to the emerging Albert Wilson, as Smith has now surpassed 290 yards passing two straight weeks after failing to reach the mark in the first 12 games of the season. He will face a favorable matchup next week against a Steelers defense that allowed 310 yards through the air against the Falcons, who were playing without Julio Jones.

Smith completed 26-of-39 passes for 293 yards, with one touchdown and an interception in Sunday's 17-14 loss at Arizona. He also added four carries for 26 yards.
Smith didn't play poorly, although his shortcomings as a passer -- namely his ineffectiveness as a downfield passer -- were evident in the final minute of the game, with the Chiefs needing a field goal to tie. The veteran QB did utilize Travis Kelce more than ever, as the duo hooked up seven times for 110 yards, but he and the Chiefs' coaching staff should have figured out that Kelce was their best receiving option a long time ago. In any event, Smith will face the Raiders at home next week.

Smith completed 15-of-23 passes for 153 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception, in Sunday's 29-16 loss to the Broncos.
Smith took six sacks and added five carries for six yards, while Jamaal Charles had his worst rushing game since Week 2, producing 35 yards from just 10 totes. The Chiefs only ran 44 offensive plays, as the Broncos piled up 214 yards on the ground, led by C.J. Anderson. Smith relied on his typical array of short passes, and while his accuracy was decent, the Chiefs went just 1-of-9 on third downs. Smith and his teammates draw another tough matchup in Week 14, facing the Cardinals in Arizona.

Smith completed 20-of-36 passes for 234 yards, with two touchdowns and no interception in Thursday's 24-20 loss to the Raiders. He added five yard on two carries.
This is one of the better stat lines you'll see from Smith, but he didn't actually play one of his better games. While the lack of aggressive downfield throws is to be expected at this point, Smith typically does well with his composure in the pocket and short accuracy, both of which were problems for most of Thursday's game. Even in leading the Chiefs to back-to-back touchdown drives to tie the game, Smith mostly just hit wide-open receivers on botched coverages by the Oakland defense. The Chiefs may need another 35+ pass attempts from Smith next week against the Broncos, but that doesn't change the reality of his limited weekly ceiling.

Smith completed 11 of 16 passes for a season-low 108 yards Sunday against the Seahawks.
The Chiefs got significant production in the running game, with Jamaal Charles racking up 159 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries, though Smith was held to minus-1 yard on two carries. Smith has now failed to reach 200 yards in three straight games, while failing to account for a touchdown in back-to-back contests. He'll look to break through Thursday against a Raiders defense ranked 18th against the pass this season.

Smith completed 17 of 29 passes for 177 yards and ran four times for 25 yards and a touchdown Sunday against the Bills.
Smith's touchdown came with 8:59 left in the game to put the Chiefs up for good after trailing 13-3 heading into the fourth quarter. The score was his first on the ground this season and came one week after he failed to record even a single rushing yard. Smith has thrown for fewer than 200 yards in back-to-back games, and he isn't likely headed for a breakout in Week 6 against a Seahawks defense ranked sixth in the NFL against the pass this season.

Smith (shoulder) completed 21 of 31 passes for 199 yards and two touchdowns Sunday against the Jets.
Smith suffered a right shoulder strain last Sunday against the Rams, but didn't appear to be bothered by it at all, connecting with nine different receivers, including touchdowns to tight ends Travis Kelce and Anthony Fasano, though the latter's score was a bit fluky as it went off a Jets' defender's hand and fell right to Fasano, who was on the ground, caught the ball and stretched for the score. Smith ended a three-game streak of passing for fewer than two touchdowns, though he's only reached the 250-yard mark once this season (Week 2 against the Broncos when he had 255). Up next is a Week 10 trip to Buffalo to face a Bills defense ranked 12th in the NFL in fewest passing yards allowed per game and lead the league with 12 interceptions.
