Brooks (personal) will not travel with the team to New York for Sunday's game against the Giants, CSN Bay Area reports.
Brooks is dealing with a death in the family and has been excused from all team activities this week. His agent stated that Brooks expects to rejoin the team next week for their matchup with the Ravens. Rookie linebacker Eli Harold will start in his place.

Brooks (personal) will remain on the 53-man roster in advance of the regular season, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Brooks is facing a charge of misdemeanor sexual battery, but the NFL has the ultimate say in any suspension under its personal conduct policy, meaning his legal situation will have to play out before any ban is levied. While he hasn't participated in any team activities since the charge came down, his status on the 53-man roster allows him to play in Week 1 and beyond.

Brooks was charged with one count of misdemeanor sexual battery Wednesday, the San Jose Mercury News reports. Speaking of the development, general manager Trent Baalke told Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports 1, "Ahmad is returning home to California and will not participate in Saturday's game (at Denver)."
After a lengthy investigation, the Santa Clara district attorney revealed the charges against Brooks, which stem from a party held at former 49er Ray McDonald's house in December. Considering the organization released McDonald in May, Brooks's roster spot could also be in danger. No matter, the 49ers may allow the criminal justice system to play out before making a decision on the matter.

Brooks started at right outside linebacker in Saturday's preseason opener against the Texans. He did not record a tackle.
Brooks was only on the field for nine snaps, but it was interesting to see him slotted where the recently released Aldon Smith used to line up. Pass-rushing specialist, Aaron Lynch, did not play Saturday, and he figures to fill the mold Smith left behind, so this may have been a temporary move. Regardless of which side he lines up on, Brooks is expected to be a starter this season.

49ers' GM Trent Baalke stated that the team plans to bring Brooks back for the 2015 season, CSN Bay Area reports.
There was a strong assumption that the 49ers and Brooks would part ways this offseason via a trade or a release. Baalke claims they the team has no such plans, and will keep the veteran linebacker for the upcoming season. The riff between Brooks and the team started when reports leaked of a failed trade to Cleveland. Then Brooks was benched for a game, and also benched himself for another when he became disgruntled with the playing time he was losing to rookie Aaron Lynch. The loss of Dan Skuta to Jaguars this offseason probably influenced the 49ers' decision to keep Brooks on board. He will battle with Lynch for the starting outside linebacker role aside Aldon Smith during training camp.

Brooks had an up-and-down 2014 season, finishing with 30 tackles (25 solo), six sacks, and a fumble forced.
Brooks came into the 2014 season overweight, and had to slim down before being deployed in his usual role. Then trade rumors and a reduced role caused Brooks to be visibly disgruntled, to the point that he pulled himself out of a game. Things seemed to be smoothed over after that, as Brooks began to receive the majority of snaps opposite Aldon Smith down the stretch. Still, the damage may already be done between Brooks and the 49ers, and an off-season trade could be a very likely scenario for the veteran linebacker.

Brooks (thumb) is inactive for Saturday's game against San Diego.
With Brooks and Chris Borland (ankle) both out, the 49ers will be quite thin at linebacker. Nick Moody should step up inside, while some combination of Aaron Lynch, Dan Skuta and Corey Lemonier might fill the void outside.

Brooks (thumb) is questionable for Sunday's game against San Diego.
The 49ers really could use Brooks' presence since they're dealing with so many injuries at linebacker, and the fact that he logged two limited practices this week is encouraging.
Sun Dec 7 201421:12Ahmad Brooks: Benched For Missing Meeting
Brooks was benched for Sunday's loss to the Raiders, seemingly because he missed a team meeting Tuesday, Janie McCauley reports.
Brooks, who a few weeks back removed himself from a game, said after Sunday's contest that he was not informed about the benching. He doesn't seem to see eye-to-eye with the current coaching staff, but he's signed through 2017 on a contract that should keep his job safe through at least the end of this season. With Aaron Lynch thriving at outside linebacker, Brooks doesn't have much IDP appeal for the rest of this season.

After removing himself from last week's game, Brooks started Sunday's game against Washington and recorded three tackles (all solo) and recovered the fumble that sealed the win for San Francisco.
His lack of usage last week against the Giants disgruntled the veteran linebacker, but he was given the start Sunday and appears to be over the issue. Brooks still surrendered some snaps to rookie Aaron Lynch, but it appears that both will get enough usage going forward.
Mon Nov 17 201411:26Brooks unhappy with role on team
Brooks, who played just two snaps Sunday, is unhappy with his role on the team, Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports.
Brooks, who has taken a backseat to rookie Aaron Lynch and recently re-instated Aldon Smith, reportedly removed himself from Sunday's win over the Giants despite being healthy. After the game, Brooks refused to comment on the situation, other than stating that he is, indeed, healthy. The veteran linebacker is obviously frustrated with his reduced role in 2014 as well as the rumors that the team attempted to trade him to Cleveland at the deadline. This situation doesn't look as if it will end well for both parties, and there is a strong possibility that the team may part ways with Brooks if things aren't smoothed over soon.

Brooks recorded three tackles (two solo), a sack, and a forced fumble in the overtime win over New Orleans on Sunday.
Brooks bounced back after a lackluster week 9 performance and rumors of a reduced role. While this performance was an encouraging one, Aldon Smith's return to the field next week could complicate an already crowded outside linebacker situation. Brooks does have experience and a large contract working in his favor, and he still figures to see the majority of snaps opposite Smith going forward.

Brooks only recorded one tackle against the Rams amid rumors that the team was looking to deal the veteran at the trade deadline.
Brooks has recorded three sacks this season, but he reported to training camp overweight and his play has been inconsistent through eight weeks. Rookie linebacker Aaron Lynch has impressed coaches and the team was looking to get out of Brooks' contract. Aldon Smith is expected to return from his nine-game suspension in week 11, which will crowd the situation at outside linebacker and hurt Brooks' value.

Brooks turned in his best performance of the season Monday, recording five tackles (all solo) and two sacks in the win over the Rams.
Brooks set season highs in both tackles and sacks Monday. There were issues with his conditioning coming into the season, but he finally looked like his All-Pro self against the Rams. IDP owners should check to see if Brooks is available on waivers after a slow start to 2014.
Wed Aug 27 201412:38Brooks held out of Tuesday's practice for conditioning reasons
Brooks was held out of Tuesday's practice for conditioning reasons, CSN Bay Area reports.
Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio stated that Brooks is carrying a few extra pounds and will need to shed them to get back to his dominant 2013 form. Brooks was seen on the sidelines riding a stationary bike while the rest of the team was participating in drills. While this could be a bit worrisome for his IDP owners, it sounds like the 49ers' coaching staff is committed to having Brooks in game shape by week 1.
Tue Jul 29 201418:57Ahmad Brooks restructures contract
49ers OLB Ahmad Brooks has restructured his contract.
The specifics are unknown, but Brooks has reportedly shed more than $2 million off his 2014 cap number. We'd imagine a good chunk of his $4.25 million salary has been converted into a bonus that can be pro-rated over the final four years of his deal. Brooks has started every game of the Jim Harbaugh era in San Francisco.

Fri Jul 19 201312:33League still looking into Brooks incident
The league is still reviewing 49ers OLB Ahmad Brooks' alleged assault of teammate Lamar Divens even though the Santa Clara DA's office has decided not to pursue charges.
It's doubtful Brooks will face punishment, but it wouldn't be stunning if an increasingly-image conscious NFL imposed a fine or one-game suspension. The former is much more likely than the latter.

Thu Jul 18 201317:56Santa Clara DA will not charge 49ers' Brooks
The Santa Clara District Attorney's office has decided not to pursue assault charges against 49ers OLB Ahmad Brooks.
Brooks allegedly hit teammate Lamar Divens repeatedly over the head with a beer bottle in a fit of rage while drunk back on June 8. Divens initially wanted to press charges, but the two later resolved the matter and figured it was best to squash it. Then, the Santa Clara DA stepped in and reviewed the case. Charges will not be filed, and this should be the last we hear of the incident.
