Sat Aug 31 201321:59Giants release Ryan Torain
Giants released RB Ryan Torain.
27-year-old Torain was beaten out for a roster spot by seventh-round flier pick Michael Cox. Torain is clearly on his last legs in the pros.

Fri Aug 30 201314:22Ryan Torain ahead of Scott and Cox?
The next running back into the game following Andre Brown's Thursday night injury was Ryan Torain.
As ESPN New York notes, it's "not clear-cut" who will be David Wilson's backup while Brown (leg) rehabs. Reporter Dan Graziano does say he knows the Giants like Torain as a pass protector. It's possible he'll start off ahead of seventh-round rookie Michael Cox and speedy Da'Rel Scott, but we wouldn't waste too much time handcuffing Wilson. Torain has been one of the most injury-prone players in the league throughout his career and Brown could be back in a month.

Tue Mar 12 201317:20Giants bring back RB Ryan Torain
Giants re-signed RB Ryan Torain.
The Giants declined to tender Torain a contract on Monday, but have likely brought him back for the league minimum. He's just a camp body.

Mon Mar 11 201314:16Giants don't tender Ryan Torain
Giants declined to tender RB Ryan Torain, making him an unrestricted free agent.
Torain is still only 26, but persistent injuries have sapped his burst and he's likely not long for the league. In two appearances with the G-Men last year, Torain didn't earn a carry. He might get a shot in someone's camp.

Tue Nov 27 201217:45Giants set to sign RB Ryan Torain
Giants agreed to terms with RB Ryan Torain.
Torain has been out of the league since the Redskins cut him on the heels of a 3.4 YPC average last December. He's a power back similar to Andre Brown while Kregg Lumpkin is a superior receiver and special teamer. Torain is the better bet to see carries as the third back in the Giants committee, but he's not yet on the fantasy radar.

Tue Nov 27 201215:34Giants expected to sign Torain at some point
The Giants are expected to sign free agent RB Ryan Torain "at some point in the near future."

Thu Nov 15 201213:38Giants worked out Torain, Moore, Lumpkin
In addition to Joseph Addai, the Giants worked out free agent RBs Ryan Torain, Mewelde Moore, and Kregg Lumpkin on Tuesday.
It's the first sign of interest in Torain that we've seen since the Redskins waived him in December of 2011. The workouts seem to suggest the Giants have at least mild concern about Ahmad Bradshaw's (neck) availability for Week 12 after the bye.

Thu Dec 29 201110:56Ryan Torain passes through waivers unclaimed
Ryan Torain passed through waivers unclaimed.
It's not a surprise. Mike Shanahan has been Torain's biggest fan for years, but not even he could stomach the blatant ineffectiveness Torain has shown of late. In eight games with the Redskins, he averaged 3.4 yards per carry, getting passed on the depth chart by Roy Helu and Evan Royster. Torain is now free to sign with any team.

Tue Dec 27 201113:38Redskins cut ties with third-string RB Torain
Redskins waived RB Ryan Torain.
Last year's leading rusher, Torain had posted just 65 total yards since his 135-yard performance versus the Rams in Week 4. The injury-prone Torain entered the season as the third-stringer and was recently passed by rookie Evan Royster. Potential playoff teams such as the Lions, Titans, and Cowboys could use depth at tailback, though Torain's per-carry average of 3.4 yards isn't promising.

Tue Dec 27 201110:48Ryan Torain struggles once again
Ryan Torain played on 14-of-64 snaps in the Week 16 loss to the Vikings.
Even with both Tim Hightower (injured reserve, knee) and Roy Helu (knee, toe) sidelined, Torain barely played. He gained eight yards on four carries and is averaging 1.6 yards per carry on his last four attempts. Torain's NFL career is quickly slipping through his fingers.

Tue Dec 13 201110:33Ryan Torain now behind Royster
Coach Mike Shanahan confirmed that Ryan Torain is now behind Evan Royster on the depth chart.
Torain was not injured last week when he was inactive against the Patriots. "Ryan was not going to play unless something happened to the two running backs," Shanahan said Monday. Royster rushed six times for 44 yards.

Sun Nov 27 201119:40Ryan Torain doesn't play in win
Ryan Torain did not receive a touch in Sunday's win over the Seahawks.
We didn't even see Torain get on the field. When starter Roy Helu needed a break, Evan Royster got the call. Torain, who started the previous two games, now looks like a third-stringer.

Mon Nov 21 201109:50Ryan Torain's hold on starting gig tenuous
Ryan Torain's hold on the starting job is "tenuous at best," according to the Washington Post.
Torain has started the last two games, but got less carries than both Tashard Choice and Roy Helu yesterday. It's obvious that the Redskins go into games with no real plan for their backfield, simply dividing carries based on feel. Until we achieve some clarity, no Redskin running back can be trusted in fantasy.

Mon Nov 14 201109:44Shanahan has no real explanation for Torain
Coach Mike Shanahan had no real explanation for his decision to feature Ryan Torain in Sunday's loss to the Dolphins.
Shanahan talked up Roy Helu as his every-down back last week and then started Torain yesterday. "I wanted to give Ryan a chance to see what he could do against a very good defensive team," Shanahan said. After Torain was blatantly ineffective through two-plus quarters, Helu got a shot to play every down as the "passing" back. We can't predict who will start next week's game, but we can confidently say that Helu projects as the more productive player.

Sun Nov 13 201117:43Ryan Torain awful in surprise start
Back in the starting lineup, Ryan Torain rushed 11 times for 20 yards in Sunday's loss to the Dolphins.
We're not sure why coach Mike Shanahan turned back to Torain. In the first half, Torain was the exclusive early-down back and looked slow while finding no holes. In the second half, the Redskins went to more of a spread, up-tempo offense and used Roy Helu as the every-down back. Helu was significantly more effective, just like the rookie was last week. We likely won't know next week's starter until game-time.

Sun Nov 13 201113:08Ryan Torain surprisingly draws start for WAS
Ryan Torain, not Roy Helu, started Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
Coach Mike Shanahan continues to be impossible to predict. Even though he said this week that Torain would only come on when Helu gets tired, he was apparently lying. Torain got the first two carries of the game today before Helu came on for a third-down play.

Sun Nov 6 201121:56Ryan Torain won't play much going forward
Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said after Sunday's game that Ryan Torain will only play when new starter Roy Helu gets "tired" going forward.
It won't be on passing downs because Torain doesn't pick up the blitz or catch passes well, so his role is going to be pretty minimal if Shanahan stays true to his word. "We're going to have Ryan kind of substitute him when he gets tired," said Shanahan. "You can see (Helu) is a pretty good all-around back. He made some plays." Helu finished the game with 24 touches, gaining 149 yards. Torain had one carry and one reception.

Sun Nov 6 201118:11Ryan Torain barely plays in loss
Ryan Torain rushed just one time for two yards in Sunday's loss to the 49ers.
The Redskins decided to essentially bench Torain. Roy Helu was announced as the starter Sunday morning and Torain didn't even see the field until deep in the fourth quarter. Torain may be in danger of losing the No. 2 job to Tashard Choice. Over the last four weeks, Torain is averaging 1.57 yards per carry.

Sun Oct 30 201119:21Ryan Torain continues struggles vs Bills
Ryan Torain rushed for just 14 yards on eight carries and caught a six-yard pass in the Redskins' Week 8 loss to the Bills.
It was an incredibly disappointing performance against a run defense that's been bad all year. The Skins fell behind early, essentially abandoned the run, and Torain wasn't productive on a per-play basis even before that. Since Week 4, Torain has managed just 31 yards on 20 carries (1.55 YPC). He'll be much easier to bench against San Francisco's shutdown run defense in Week 9.

Sun Oct 30 201114:41Torain listed as Redskins Week 8 starting RB
The Redskins announced Ryan Torain as their Week 8 starter at running back prior to Sunday's game against the Bills.
It doesn't mean Torain will get all of the carries, of course, but he's certainly the favorite at this point. Roy Helu is expected to play on all passing downs to begin the game. Inactive for the Skins: FB Mike Sellers, CB Phillip Buchanon, OLB Markus White, LT Trent Williams, WR Santana Moss, TE Dominique Byrd, and DE Darrion Scott. FS O.J. Atogwe and MLB London Fletcher will start.
