Mon May 1323:37Luisangel Acuna Extends Hit Streak To Nine Games
New York Mets shortstop prospect Luisangel Acuna went 2-for-5 with a walk, two runs scored, and two stolen bases on Sunday for Triple-A Syracuse. The pair of singles extended the 22-year-old's hit streak to nine games, although he isn't exactly knocking the cover off the ball during the streak with a .273 average and no home runs. The right-handed hitter has four doubles, three triples, and two home runs on the season, but even the last nine games could only bring his season batting average to .233. It's part of the reason that Acuna dropped 22 spots on MLB.com's most recently updated Top-100 prospects list, going from 58 to 80. The speed is still there though, totaling 13 stolen bases through 34 games.

Tue Apr 3000:39Luisangel Acuna Hits Second Homer Sunday
New York Mets shortstop prospect Luisangel Acuna hit his second home run of the season on Sunday for Triple-A Syracuse. The 22-year-old went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored in Game 2 of a doubleheader, while the home run was his first since the first game of the season. Not known as much for his power as his older brother, he does still have some wheels, swiping 57 bags last season, and is up to eight so far in 2024. MLB's 59th-ranked prospect overall is inching closer to the bigs, but with Francisco Lindor blocking him at short it's uncertain where he would fit in. Managers in need of steals will need to be ready once he earns the promotion.

Tue Apr 2309:40Luisangel Acuna Struggling In Triple-A
New York Mets middle infield prospect Luisangel Acuna has been off to a sluggish start for Triple-A Syracuse. Acuna, who is the brother of Ronald Acuna Jr. was the big name acquired for Max Scherzer last season and hit .294 with nine home runs, 63 RBI, 57 stolen bases and 93 runs in 121 games with Double-A Binghamton and Double-A Frisco. Thus far for Syracuse, Acuna is still adjusting as he hitting just .211 with one homer, five RBI and seven RBI. Acuna has shown his ability on the basepaths, but he still needs to hit better offensively to make a big mark at the next level. For now, he remains best suited on the waiver, but could see a promotion to the big leagues before the end of the season, if he improves in the batter's box.

Mon Apr 2223:30Luisangel Acuna Off To A Slow Start At Triple-A
New York Mets shortstop prospect Luisangel Acuna is showing off the speed at Triple-A, but not much power yet. The 22-year-old hit a home run in his first game of the season, however, has not hit one since. Ronald's brother went 2-for-5 with a single, a triple, a walk, an RBI, and two runs scored for Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, bringing his season slashline to a pedestrian .211/.253/.310. Acuna has stolen seven bases so far this year and 40 or more each of the past three seasons. Francisco Lindor is blocking his way to the majors at shortstop though, but he could make it to Queens as a second baseman or outfielder. He's not forcing the issue with his performance at the plate, however.

The New York Mets optioned infield prospect Luisangel Acuna and left-hander Kolton Ingram to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday and reassigned outfielder Drew Gilbert, right-handers Eric Orze, Cam Robinson, Christian Scott and Mike Vasil, catcher Kevin Parada, infielder Jett Williams and left-hander Danny Young to minor-league camp. Sat Feb 1713:58Jett Williams, Luisangel Acuna Drawing Buzz At Mets Camp
New York Mets infielders Jett Williams and Luisangel Acuna are drawing a lot of interest as Mets camp gets underway in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. Williams is the Mets' highest-rated prospect (No.45 in the Top 100) but Acuna is also considered a high-end prospect. Williams was a first-round pick back in 2022 and slashed .263/.425/.451 with 13 home runs, 55 RBI, and 45 steals in 121 minor-league games across three levels. Williams will see time at center field and shortstop while Acuna will get reps at second and shortstop as well. Williams' speed could play well in center field. According to beat writer Anthony DiComo both Acuna and Williams have an outside chance to appear in the majors at some point late in the season. They are must-draft players in dynasty formats but there's no need to rush and draft them in redraft leagues. Both are names to keep an eye on, however, if they do indeed get called up later in the year.

Sat Aug 19 202311:23Luisangel Acuna Swipes 50th Stolen Base
New York Mets middle-infield prospect Luisangel Acuna collected his 50th stolen base of the 2023 season in a 3-for-5 showing with Double-A Binghamton. Acuna has struggled with the bat since being acquired by New York in the Max Scherzer trade, slashing .203/.299/.237 through 15 games. However, he's kept up his excellence on the basepaths, collecting eight stolen bases since arriving in Binghamton. This early struggle is merely a blip in an incredible season for the 21-year-old, with an .830 OPS in the 84 games he spent in the Texas Rangers organization this season. He's not likely to make the majors this season, meaning redraft managers should look elsewhere.

Sat Jul 29 202321:45Luisangel Acuna Heads To The Mets As Part Of Scherzer Deal
The Texas Rangers traded shortstop prospect Luisangel Acuna to the New York Mets as of the blockbuster deal to acquire ace Max Scherzer. Acuna is the younger brother of Atlanta Braves star outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. According to MLB Pipeline, Acuna is MLB's No. 44 prospect. The 21-year-old is slashing .323/.384/.472 with eight home runs and 42 steals in 84 games at Double-A. Acuna will be promoted to Triple-A by the end of the year and could see a big league promotion sometime in 2024. Fantasy managers can stash Acuna in dynasty leagues, but he will likely be a non-factor in redraft formats in 2023.

Thu Jul 27 202314:00Luisangel Acuna Hits Seventh Home Run
Texas Rangers middle-infield prospect Luisangel Acuna hit his seventh home run of the season in a monster 4-for-5 showing for Double-A Frisco. He is now slashing .315/.379/.452 with 50 RBI and 66 runs. The fleet-footed 21-year-old swiped two bags on Wednesday, now up to an astounding 41 steals in 82 games this season. The uber-athletic Acuna is one of the most exciting prospects in baseball, but the glut of middle-infield talent at the upper levels in the Rangers' organization means he's only a focus for those in the dynasty format.

Tue Jul 11 202316:53Luisangel Acuna Impressing At Double-A
Texas Rangers middle-infield prospect Luisangel Acuna, who is ranked by MLB Pipeline as the organization's No. 3 prospect, has really impressed so far in 72 games (343 plate appearances) at Double-A Frisco this year. Acuna is currently slashing .315/.371/.447 with an .818 OPS, six home runs, 19 doubles, two triples, 45 RBI, 34 stolen bases and 56 runs scored for the RoughRiders. He's also batting .411 with a home run and four stolen bases during a current 13-game hitting streak. The 21-year-old has seen most of his playing time at shortstop in 2023. Acuna has a slight build at 5-foot-8, 181 pounds, but he plays bigger because of his aggressiveness. Speed is the main draw with him, and he'll need to be better against offspeed pitches to find success at the big-league level when he gets there.
