Tue Mar 31 201517:16Mijares suspended 50 games for using drug of abuse
Mijares was suspended 50 games for using a drug of abuse, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Mijares is currently a free agent after being released by the Reds last week and has not appeared in a major league game since 2013. The suspension will likely hinder the 30-year-old's ability to land a spot on a big league roster somewhere but he should be able to find a spot in some facility as a minor leaguer.
Mon Mar 23 201516:43Mijares released from Reds on Monday
Mijares was released from the Reds on Monday.
Mijares signed a minor league contract with the club in December, but was viewed as a long shot to crack the big league roster from the beginning. The lefty last appeared in the majors in 2013, posting a 4.22 ERA in 60 outings and will likely begin the season in the minors wherever he signs next.

Mijares signed a minor league contract with the Reds on Friday that includes an invite to spring training, according to his agent Felix Olivo.
Mijares received a big-league invite to spring training from the Red Sox last year, but he fell out of the running for a bullpen spot with several poor showings during Grapefruit League play and opted out of his deal. He did not end up returning to active competition over the remainder of the year, but Mijares will get an opportunity to compete for a specialist role with Cincinnati in the spring. Considering he's held opposing lefties to a .225/.288/.335 batting line in his career, it's certainly possible he could earn a job.
Sun Mar 23 201410:24Mijares opts out of deal, now a free agent
Jose Mijares has opted out of his minor league contract with the Red Sox and is now a free agent, reports FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.
The 29-year-old southpaw looked to be a nice buy-low add by Boston over the winter even coming off a disappointing 2013 campaign in which he appeared in 60 games for the Giants and collected a 4.22 ERA, 1.78 WHIP and 54/20 K/BB ratio over 49 innings. The left-handed specialist entered last season with a 3.00 ERA over 264 career appearances and will soon procure another minor league deal, this time with a team that isn't so stacked with bullpen options.

Jose Mijares (elbow) will face live hitters on a back field on Wednesday, as he progresses in his recovery from a left posterior elbow impingement.
Mijares has been able to throw bullpen sessions already, and this should be the final hurdle before he is cleared to return to game action. Assuming no setbacks, he should be counted on as a part of the Giants' Opening Day bullpen.

Mon Aug 6 201215:43Giants claim Mijares off waivers from KC
Giants claimed LHP Jose Mijares off waivers from the Royals.
Mijares must be seriously disliked by his teammates or coaches. How else to explain two organizations giving up the cheap left-hander for nothing within the last nine months? Signed by Kansas City to a one-year, $925,000 contract after Minnesota non-tendered him in December, Mijares posted a stellar 2.56 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 51 appearances for the Royals. The 27-year-old southpaw has a career 3.04 ERA (139 ERA+) over 237 relief outings for the Twins and Royals. Perhaps he'll get more love on the West Coast.

Tue Jul 24 201213:16Angels like LHPs Mijares, Rzepczynski
Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports that the Angels are looking for a left-handed reliever and have expressed interest in Jose Mijares of the Royals and Marc Rzepczynski of the Cardinals, among others.
Mijares has a solid 1.72 ERA and 35/10 K/BB ratio over 36 2/3 innings this season. Rzepczynski has compiled a disappointing 5.06 ERA and 22/11 K/BB ratio in 32 innings this year, but has enjoyed success against left-hander batters. The Cardinals are still in the playoff race, so Mijares may be the more realistic target.
