Tue Sep 19 202300:21Yennier Cano Earns One-Out Save Monday
Baltimore Orioles relief pitcher Yennier Cano earned his seventh save of the season in Monday's 8-7 win over the Astros. Cano came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth up by one with two outs and the tying run on third, ending the game with a strikeout. The 29-year-old has pitched well this season and has filled in as closer while Felix Bautista (elbow) attempts to recover from a partial UCL tear in his throwing elbow. Cano should be rostered in at least all roto leagues for the final few weeks of the season if Bautista is not able to return.

Tue Sep 5 202300:41Yennier Cano Earns Sixth Save Of Season Monday
Baltimore Orioles relief pitcher Yennier Cano earned his sixth save of the season in Monday's 6-3 win over the Angels. Cano came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth up by three and delivered a 1-2-3 inning with no strikeouts. It was the 29-year-old's second save since star closer Felix Bautista (elbow) went on the injured list at the end of August. Cano has been excellent in his own right, compiling a 1.65 ERA and a 7.99 K/9 rate on the season. While Bautista's return remains without a timetable, Cano should be rostered in all leagues at this time given his new role.

Sat Aug 26 202322:13Yennier Cano Collects Save No. 5
Baltimore Orioles right-hander Yennier Cano pitched a perfect inning to earn the save in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Colorado Rockies. Baltimore's closer Felix Bautista (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a UCL injury. Cano got the first crack at the Orioles' first save opportunity. He entered the game in the ninth inning to protect a one-run lead. The 29-year-old retired all three batters he faced to earn his fifth save of the season. Cano has converted 5-of-6 save opportunities with a 1.60 ERA, 0.97 WHIP<, and a 67:10 K: BB across 62 innings in 2023. Fantasy managers searching for saves should add Cano in all league formats, as he will be Baltimore's primary closer while Bautista is sidelined.

Wed Jul 26 202300:53Yennier Cano Blows Fifth Save Of Season Tuesday
Baltimore Orioles relief pitcher Yennier Cano blew his fifth save of the season in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Phillies. Cano came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth up by one. He got the first out on a groundout, allowed a single, got the second out on a strikeout, allowed an RBI double to tie the game, and allowed back-to-back singles to end the game. Felix Bautista, the team's closer has pitched very frequently since the All-Star break, so he was not available to close this one out. Despite the blown saves, Cano has pitched very well this season with a 1.82 ERA, four saves, and 24 holds. As great as he is, his current role only lends itself to fantasy value in saves + holds leagues.

Fri May 26 202302:26Yennier Cano Picks Up Fourth Save
Baltimore Orioles relief pitcher Yennier Cano held on for his fourth save of the season on Thursday in a 3-1 victory over the New York Yankees. Cano allowed a run on a hit and a walk, but managed to escape with the save. The righty was called upon because usual closer Felix Bautista was unavailable for this one after pitching the two days prior to this one. That being said, Cano has been trusted in save situations multiple times now and should continue to pick up the occasional save. He carries a 0.68 ERA and 0.45 WHIP with 29 strikeouts in 26 IP to go along with 10 holds and four saves. He is the premier non-closer in the MLB right now and is a must-roster player in saves plus holds leagues, and should probably be rostered in most roto leagues as well.

Wed May 17 202321:57Yennier Cano Continues Scoreless Streak On Wednesday
Baltimore Orioles reliever Yennier Cano continued his perfect season after throwing a scoreless eighth inning in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels. Cano struck out two batters and picked up his eighth hold of the season. The 29-year-old has been electric in his sophomore season in the big leagues and has been one of the most dominant relievers in the Orioles bullpen. After turning in an 11.50 ERA through 13 appearances in 2022, Cano has been perfect to start the 2023 season. He has thrown 21 2/3 innings of scoreless ball while striking out 25 batters without allowing a single walk. He owns a 35.9% strikeout rate and a .063 opponent batting average. Cano is rostered in just 66% of fantasy leagues.

Thu May 11 202308:14Yennier Cano Earns His Third Save Wednesday
Baltimore Orioles reliever Yennier Cano recorded his third save of the season on Wednesday when he threw a clean ninth inning, striking out one without allowing a baserunner, protecting the 2-1 lead against the Tampa Bay Rays. The 29-year-old has been unbelievable in 2023, as he has yet to give up a run over 18.2 innings and is running a 0.16 WHIP with 22 punchouts and no walks. Felix Bautista threw 29 pitches on Tuesday, making it unlikely he would pitch Wednesday, so fantasy managers shouldn't assume there's been a change at closer. However, Cano has massive value in save and hold leagues, considering he's earned six holds thus far.

Sun Apr 30 202319:19Yennier Cano Picks Up His Second Save Sunday
Baltimore Orioles reliever Yennier Cano earned his second save of the season on Sunday when his club defeated the Detroit Tigers 5-3. He completed 1.1 innings of work and struck out two. Cano has been very effective on the mound over 11 innings, as he has yet to allow a baserunner with 12 strikeouts and five holds. Felix Bautista was likely getting the day off after pitching in three of the last four days, so fantasy managers shouldn't expect Cano to take the closer rains. But the 29-year-old still has a lot to offer and can be a four-category contributor in leagues that count holds.

Mon Apr 24 202321:39Yennier Cano Earns Save Monday
Baltimore Orioles right-hander Yennier Cano tossed a scoreless ninth inning to preserve a 5-4 win over the Boston Red Sox on Monday. Cano struck out two and did not allow a baserunner in the frame while notching three swinging strikes on just 12 pitches. The Orioles turned to Cano for the save after they had used regular closer Felix Bautista in two of the past three games. Cano has been dominant in the Baltimore bullpen this season, posting seven scoreless innings with nine strikeouts. He has yet to allow a baserunner over that span. Bautista remains the preferred closer for the Orioles but Cano would have plenty of fantasy value were he to move into the ninth-inning role.
