Wed May 117:31Zack Gelof Resumes Baseball Activities
Oakland Athletics second baseman Zack Gelof (oblique) is back to baseball activities and took ground balls at second base and played catch on Wednesday. However, there is still no timetable for his return from the 10-day injured list from a strained left oblique. Given the nature of his injury, fantasy managers in deeper leagues shouldn't expect the 24-year-old infielder to return when he's eligible. After a promising rookie campaign in 2023 in which he hit .267 (72-for-270) with 14 home runs, 32 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 69 games, Gelof hasn't looked as good so far in 24 contests in his sophomore season. So far, he's gone 18-for-92 (.196) with three homers, seven RBI and four stolen bases. Until he's able to return, Max Schuemann and Abraham Toro could split playing time at the keystone in Oakland.

Mon Apr 2920:10Zack Gelof Shut Down From Baseball Activities
Oakland Athletics second baseman Zack Gelof (oblique) is currently shut down from baseball activities. Unsurprisingly, Gelof will miss more than the 10 days on the injured list with a strained left oblique. There will be no timetable for his return to the big leagues until he starts ramping up his activities and goes on a minor-league rehab assignment. The 24-year-old former second-round pick in 2021 out of Virginia held his own in his rookie season in 2023 with a .267/.337/.504 slash line with an .840 OPS, 14 home runs, 32 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 69 games, but he's gotten out of the gates slow in 2024 with a .196 average (18-for-92) with three homers, seven RBI and four stolen bases in his first 24 games. His oblique injury won't make it any easier to bounce back once he returns. In the meantime, Max Schuemann figures to see most of the playing time at the keystone in Oakland.

Thu Apr 2516:11A's Place Zack Gelof On 10-Day Injured List
The Oakland Athletics placed second baseman Zack Gelof (oblique) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to April 24) on Thursday with a strained left oblique and recalled infielder Darell Hernaiz from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. Gelof was scratched from the lineup on Wednesday with the oblique injury and will now miss at least the next 10 days. Given the nature of the 24-year-old's injury, fantasy managers should be prepared to be without him for longer than 10 days. Despite playing every day for the A's in 2024 in his second big-league season, Gelof has disappointed to this point, slashing .196/.260/.337 with three home runs, seven RBI and four stolen bases in 92 at-bats. Hernaiz is getting the start at third and batting ninth on Thursday against left-hander Nestor Cortes and the New York Yankees in the Bronx.

Wed Apr 2422:28Zack Gelof Likely Heading To Injured List
Oakland Athletics infielder Zack Gelof (oblique) has been diagnosed with a left-oblique strain and is likely to land on the injured list. Gelof was scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the New York Yankees due to abdominal soreness, but further tests revealed that the 24-year-old is dealing with a strained oblique and he will need at least 10 days off. The former second-round pick in 2021 out of Virginia has gotten off to a slow start in 2024 in his second year in the big leagues by going 18-for-92 (.196) with three home runs, seven RBI and four stolen bases in 24 games after slashing .267/.337/.504 with an .840 OPS, 14 home runs, 32 RBI and 14 steals in his first 69 big-league games in 2024. Abraham Toro got the start at second for the A's on Wednesday and figures to see more playing time there moving forward with Gelof headed for the IL.

Wed Apr 2421:47Zack Gelof Nursing Abdominal Soreness
Updating a previous report, Oakland Athletic second baseman Zack Gelof (abdomen) was scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the New York Yankees in the Bronx due to soreness in his left abdomen. Gelof, who was originally included in Oakland's starting lineup, was a late scratch and was on the bench for the first time in the 2024 regular season. It sounds like a minor issue that should leave Gelof day-to-day ahead of Thursday's series finale at Yankee Stadium. After a breakout rookie year in 2023, the 28-year-old former second-round pick has taken a step back in the early portion of this season while slashing .196/.260/.337 with three home runs, seven RBI, 11 runs scored, and four stolen bases in 92 at-bats (24 games). Gelof's fantasy value might continue to drop if he continues batting sixth in a poor A's lineup, which he's done in each of his past three appearances.

Wed Apr 2419:01Zack Gelof Scratched On Wednesday
Oakland Athletics infielder Zack Gelof (undisclosed) has been scratched ahead of Wednesday's game against the New York Yankees. It's unclear why the A's pulled Gelof out of the lineup. The hope is that it's a minor issue and he'll be back in the lineup soon. In the meantime, Abraham Toro will cover third base and bat sixth on Wednesday. The A's should give an update on his status shortly.

Mon Apr 2218:41Zack Gelof Hits Go-Ahead Homer
Oakland Athletics infielder Zack Gelof came up clutch for the team during Monday's game against the New York Yankees. The young infielder broke a scoreless tie with a go-ahead two-run home run in the ninth inning. This was the first time that Gelof had recorded an RBI since April 10. The A's recently dropped Gelof to the sixth-hole, which shouldn't be surprising given how much he has struggled. Most fantasy managers can stay away given his current .205/.271/.352 slash line.

Mon Apr 809:32Zack Gelof Breaks Out On Sunday
Oakland Athletics second basemanZack Gelofhad himself quite the day in Sunday's 7-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers. He racked up four hits with a triple and a three-run home run off of Detroit Tigers starterJack Flaherty. He also had three runs and four RBI on the day. This game was finally Gelof's first good game of the season. Overall, he is slashing .243/.349/.432 with a home run, four RBI, eight runs, and two stolen bases over 10 games in 2024. Gelof was a popular breakout candidate before the season started, and his extensive performance on Sunday shows why. Look for Gelof to build off Sunday's performance, and fantasy managers should continue to start him in all leagues.

Sun Apr 716:43Zack Gelof Crushes First Long Ball Of 2024
Oakland Athletics second baseman Zack Gelof had a dominant day at the plate on Sunday, going 4-5 with nine total bases. Gelof wasted no time hitting an RBI triple in the top of the first to score Abraham Toro and then would eventually cross home plate off a JJ Bleday single. In the second, Gelof launched his first home run of the season to score Ryan Noda and Toro once again. The 24-year-old then knocked a single in both the seventh and ninth innings to cap off the day. This is a positive sign for fantasy managers as Gelof entered this game sporting an underwhelming .156/.289/.219 stat line. Gelof will look to stay hot as he takes on the Texas Rangers on Tuesday, with Nathan Eovaldi tentatively scheduled to be on the bump.

Sat Apr 622:15Zack Gelof Walks Three Times, Scores Thrice On Saturday
Oakland A's second baseman Zack Gelof went 0-for-1 with three walks, three runs scored, and a stolen base in Saturday's 4-0 win over the Detroit Tigers. Gelof sparked Oakland's offense by getting on base three times and swiping his second bag of the season. The 24-year-old is off to a slow start in 2024, slashing .156/.289/.219 with five walks, five runs, and two stolen bases over nine games. Gelof has 20/20 upside after hitting 14 homers and stealing 14 bases over 69 games for the A's in 2023. Despite the slow start, fantasy managers should continue to start Gelof in hopes that he will build on Saturday's performance and turn things around at the plate.

Wed Mar 1308:02Zack Gelof Enjoying Strong Spring
Oakland Athletics second baseman Zack Gelof continued his strong Cactus League in Tuesday's victory against the Seattle Mariners. The 24-year-old went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, his fourth of the spring. Gelof now has eight RBI with a .412 batting average over 34 at-bats. One of the stars of the second for fantasy managers in 2023, Gelof hit .267 with 14 dingers, 32 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 69 games in his rookie season. Entering 2024, Gelof will enter as the teams starting second baseman and provide managers with the potential of a top-10 second baseman. There should be some regression in the batting average department for the second baseman, but he has true 20-20 potential. As of now his ADP is 152, but given his position and dominant spring, that number can rise as we get closer to the start of the season.

Sun Mar 322:44Zack Gelof Belts A Pair Of Doubles, Averaging .389 This Spring
Oakland A's second baseman Zack Gelof went 2-for-3 with two doubles, RBI, and a run scored in Sunday's 5-2 spring win over the Texas Rangers. Gelof put the A's on the scoreboard with a double to left-center off Dane Dunning in the first inning to give Oakland a 1-0 lead. The 24-year-old has been red hot this spring, slashing .389/.476/.889 with two home runs, four RBI, seven runs, and a 1.365 OPS over seven games. "The at-bats he's taking are reflective of what he did last year," said A's manager Mark Kotsay. "Zack's right where he needs to be to have success." Gelof will look to build off his successful rookie campaign, where he posted a .364 wOBA with 14 home runs and stole 14 bases over 69 games. The 24-year-old has an NFBC ADP of 132, but that number could rise if he continues his torrid spring.
