Gooden is in the stage of his career where preseason minutes aren't essential in defining his role on the team, which is why the Wizards are likely being cautious here. Barring any injuries to Humphries or Gortat, Gooden will likely settle in as a formidable role player this season.

Gooden re-signed with the Wizards on a one-year deal Thursday, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo!Sports reports.

This upcoming year will mark Gooden's third straight season with the Wizards. He's coming off a 2014-15 campaign where he averaged 5.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.0 assist while playing 17 minutes per game. He also shot 40 percent from the field and a solid 39 percent from deep. Look for him to play similar minutes again during the upcoming season, as he'll remain a depth option behind Nene Hilario in the frontcourt.

Gooden averaged 5.4 points (40% FG, 39% 3Pt, 77% FT), 4.4 rebounds, 1.0 assist, 0.4 steals, and 0.2 blocks in 17 minutes per game during 51 regular season games in 2014-15.

The 33-year-old showed off an improved shot from the outside this season, and that could help him earn another contract with the Wizards this summer. Gooden contributed 6.8 points (38% FG, 46% 3Pt, 77% FT), 5.5 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.2 steals, and 1.0 block in 18 minutes per game during 10 playoff games, sinking 12 of his 26 attempts from downtown.

Gooden moved back to the bench for Friday's game against the Nets.

Gooden saw the start against the Sixers on Wednesday. However, Nene Hilario (rest) returned to the starting lineup Friday which demoted Gooden back to the bench.

Gooden is in line to start Wednesday against the 76ers J. Michael of Comcast SportsNet reports.

In five starts this season, Gooden has averaged 11.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 28 minutes per game. He put up 16 points, three rebounds, two assists, and three three-pointers in Saturday's win against Memphis. Gooden has the potential to perform well against the 76ers but would still be a risky start given his inconsistent production and minutes.

Gooden will start at power forward Friday against the Knicks.

Gooden will start in place of Nene Hilario (rest), and is expected to receive a good chunk of minutes along with Kris Humprhies. However, he'll likely return to the bench for the team's next game as Hilario should return to the lineup.
