Schaub completed 11-of-18 passes for 134 yards, with a touchdown and an interception in Thursday's preseason opener against the Saints.

Joe Flacco only played the opening drive, then Schaub stayed in through the end of the third quarter. The veteran's performance was a mixed bag, as he made a few excellent throws when given time but also had some ugly plays under pressure. Schaub's extended workload in the preseason opener may be a sign that the Ravens are having second thoughts about their backup quarterback situation. The team doesn't have a realistic alternative on the roster but could eventually have interest in a veteran free agent.

Schaub signed with the Ravens on Tuesday, SI.com's Peter King reports.

Schaub will compete with 2014 sixth-round selection Keith Wenning for the right to back-up Joe Flacco, who has yet to miss a game through seven NFL seasons. Schaub may be the bigger name here, but given how poorly the veteran played in 2013 and into the 2014 preseason, Wenning should have a decent chance to win the job.

Schaub was released by the Raiders on Monday, CSN Bay Area reports.

Schaub's release comes as little surprise after the Raiders signed backup quarterback Christian Ponder last week. Additionally, by releasing Schaub, Oakland will save $5.5 million in salary cap space to invest elsewhere, since Derek Carr is clearly their top signal-caller moving forward. Expect Schaub to sign elsewhere with a team looking to add a veteran presence to their quarterback ranks.

Schaub came on for an ineffective Derek Carr and completed 5-of-9 passes for 57 yards, but he threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown in the Raiders' 52-0 loss to the Rams on Sunday.

With the Raiders getting absolutely destroyed, Schaub was able to get a few throws in for the first time this season, though he did little to even spark the tiniest quarterback controversy. With Carr still healthy, there is little reason to believe the 1-11 Raiders will throw Schaub under center for the final four games of the season.

With Matt McGloin inactive, Schaub will serve as the backup quarterback Sunday against San Diego.

Derek Carr is healthy enough to start, but new coach Tony Sparano has decided to go with Schaub as the No. 2 man.

Schaub (personal) practiced on Monday, ESPN.com reports.

It was Schaub's first practice back after being away from the team due to a family issue. With Derek Carr on track to play Sunday against the Chargers, either Schaub or Matt McGloin would be in line to serve as the Raiders' backup QB in Week 6.

Schaub (personal) has rejoined the team and was at the facility Wednesday, Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Schaub left the team prior to its Sept. 21 matchup against New England to attend to a personal matter, but he's now back and will presumably practice in full leading up to Week 6. The Raiders are on bye this week. Starter Derek Carr suffered a high-ankle sprain and a sprained MCL in this past Sunday's loss to Miami, which could open the door for Schaub to see some first-team reps, though Carr said he is confident he'll be healthy enough to play Oct. 12 against San Diego.

Schaub (personal) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Miami at Wembley Stadium in London, the Dolphins' official site reports.

With Schaub unavailable Sunday, Matt McGloin is once again in line to back up starting quarterback Derek Carr in Week 4.

Schaub (personal) was not at Wednesday's practice, csnbayarea.com reports.

The report notes that Schaub, who left the team prior to Sunday's contest against New England in order to tend to a family emergency, remains back in the United States at this time. The Raiders are scheduled to face the Dolphins on Sunday at Wembley Stadium in London.

Schaub won't play Sunday against the Patriots, ESPN.com reports. The report notes that Schaub's absence is not injury-related.

Less than an hour after word leaked of Schaub losing the starting quarterback job to Derek Carr, the veteran fit in his first activity since last Wednesday. Schaub even lined up and completed a short pass, according to Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune, which doesn't exactly infer that his health has improved much. Nonetheless, Schaub has little chance to regain relevance in the first few weeks, barring a sudden downturn in Carr's play.

Schaub has been usurped by rookie Derek Carr for the Week 1 start Sunday at the Jets, Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports.

Schaub's bout with a sore elbow hindered his ability to stake much of a claim to the gig, while Derek Carr shined against mostly second- and third-stringers. Carr concluded the preseason by completing 11-of-13 passes for 143 yards and three touchdowns, which was seemingly enough to surpass Schaub, the veteran.

Raiders coach Dennis Allen said Friday that the team expects to know its Week 1 starting quarterback by Monday, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Allen's statement essentially confirms that the Raiders have a decision to make between Schaub (elbow) and Derek Carr, the latter of whom was far more impressive during the preseason. Schaub struggled in the exhibition games and is now dealing with a sore elbow, after completely falling apart in Houston last season. Though the Raiders expect to make a decision by Monday, Allen indicated that the announcement may not come until later.

Though earlier in the week coach Dennis Allen indicated that he believed Schaub (elbow soreness) would be healthy enough to play in Week 1, the coach suggested Thursday night that the team still needs to see where Schaub is at health-wise in advance of the team's season opener, ESPN.com reports.

Schaub's sore elbow and spotty preseason results, combined with Derek Carr's sharp play in Thursday's preseason finale, have led Vic Tafur of sfgate.com to suggest that the rookie QB is a candidate to start the team's season opener against the Jets. Expect continued speculation regarding the matter in the coming days, though at this stage, it's unclear when Allen plans to confirm the Raiders' starter for the team's regular season opener.

After fitting in some light throws Wednesday, Schaub (elbow) will do so again Monday to discover his level of health, Albert Breer of NFL Network reports.

As a result, Schaub's sore right elbow should keep him sidelined during Thursday's preseason finale versus the Seahawks. After three underwhelming exhibitions in which he completed just 51.1 percent (24-for-47) of his passes, tendinitis emerged as the culprit, with rest the recommended remedy. The Raiders expect him to reach the requisite level of health to start in the regular season opener on Sept. 7 at the Jets, but rookie Derek Carr (ribs) is waiting in the wings in case Schaub is deemed inactive.

The report notes that the veteran QB is scheduled to talk to reporters after practice Monday, with NFL.com's Ian Rapoport suggesting that Schaub's elbow issue is believed to be a case of tendinitis, with no major structural damage in play.

If Schaub doesn't improve in a hurry, he won't hold on to the starting job for long.
