Tue Jan 28 201420:23Yuniesky Betancourt signs with Japanese club
FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Yuniesky Betancourt has reached an agreement with Japan's Orix Buffaloes.
It was reported earlier this offseason that Betancourt was receiving plenty of MLB interest, but it's no surprise that he ultimately found a better opportunity overseas. The 32-year-old batted just .212/.240/.355 in 409 plate appearances last season for the Brewers.

Wed Jan 22 201414:55Betancourt close to signing somewhere
Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dose reports that Yuniesky Betancourt is "less than a week away" from making a decision on where he'll sign.
Cotillo adds that multiple teams have been interested, though it would be surprising if they were major league offers. Betancourt turns 32 later this month and batted just .212/.240/.355 in 409 plate appearances last year.

Mon Dec 30 201319:35Multiple teams still interested in Betancourt
Zach Links of MLBTradeRumors.com reports that multiple teams are still interested in Yuniesky Betancourt, including one that could give him a chance to start.
The Marlins no longer have interest following the signing of Casey McGehee, but it sounds like Yuni won't have trouble finding a new home. That said, it's hard to believe that after a dreadful .212/.240/.355 season someone would really give him a chance to start.

Tue Dec 10 201309:10Six teams interested in Yuniesky Betancourt
Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that six teams are "seriously in" on free agent infielder Yuniesky Betancourt.
Cotillo confirms that the Marlins are one of them and sees the club as a good fit. Betancourt batted just .212/.240/.355 in 409 plate appearances this past season for the Brewers.

Thu Nov 21 201321:41Marlins looking at Yuniesky Betancourt
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that the Marlins have inquired on Yuniesky Betancourt
Betancourt batted just .212/.240/.355 in 409 plate appearances this past season for the Brewers, but Jackson says the Marlins are looking at the infielder as a possible starting option at third base. The 31-year-old's agent said earlier this week that his client is receiving interest from five clubs.

Mon Nov 18 201309:31Yuniesky Betancourt drawing serious interest
Yuniesky Betancourt's agent told Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith on Monday that his client is drawing free agent interest from five major league teams.
Yuni will be trying to score a guaranteed big league contract despite batting just .212/.240/.355 in 409 plate appearances this past season for Milwaukee. He does have occasional power, but only a desperate club would sign him and expect him to be a reliable everyday player. Betancourt, 31, is a .261/.285/.388 career hitter.

Sat Aug 10 201301:20Yuni Betancourt hits sixth grand slam
Yuniesky Betancourt hit his sixth career grand slam in the Brewers' 10-5 victory over the Mariners.
Betancourt has averaged a homer every 17.3 at-bats with the bases loaded, compared to one every 52.4 at-bats the rest of the time. Some might call him clutch. Others might say that he just doesn't really care most of the time. After horrible months of May and June, Betancourt is playing better again of late. Still, his playing time should be rather limited the rest of the way.

Thu Jul 25 201318:10Betancourt has four hits, homer in loss
Yuniesky Betancourt went 4-for-5 with a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored in a loss to the Padres on Thursday.
Betancourt connected for a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth inning and later added an RBI single in the seventh. It was a rare big day for the 31-year-old, who entered Thursday's action with just 12 hits over his last 91 at-bats dating back to the start of June. Even a Yuni finds a nut every once in a while.

Wed Jun 5 201300:55Betancourt walks off, Brewers defeat A's 4-3
Yuniesky Betancourt delivered a walk-off double in the 10th inning as the Brewers beat the A's 4-3 on Tuesday.
The at-bat was Betancourt's only official AB of the game, as he entered as pinch-hitter and walked in the ninth inning before the game-winning double in the 10th. Betancourt's playing time has been threatened recently with the team's acquisition of Juan Francisco, so Tuesday may have been a bit of a statement by the veteran. Still, after his hot start, Betancourt has returned to fantasy irrelevance in recent weeks.

Tue May 28 201305:06Betancourt goes 1-for-4 in loss to Twins
Batting cleanup, Yuniesky Betancourt singled in four at-bats against the Twins Monday.
Milwaukee fielded a skeleton-crew lineup on Memorial Day afternoon, which gifted baseball fans everywhere with Yuni in the No. 4 hole (to be fair, Betancourt has reached base in 40% of his 24 plate appearances batting cleanup this season -- perhaps Ron Roenicke is a soothsayer). Betancourt had a solid opening month to the season, but has reverted back to his old ways in May, hitting .183 with three extra-base hits in 82 at-bats. He sits at .232/.264/.409 on the year.

Tue May 7 201323:29Yuni Betancourt swats eighth HR, Brewers win
Yuniesky Betancourt slugged his eighth home run of the season in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Rangers.
Yuni's two-run shot capped off a five-run first inning against Texas starter Justin Grimm. Betancourt, 31, is never going to be a complete baseball player, but he does possess some pop and is worthy of a roster spot in standard fantasy leagues when he is getting regular playing time and swinging the bat with authority. Both of those things are happening right now.

Wed May 1 201312:10Betancourt to stick as regular first baseman
Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said Wednesday that Yuniesky Betancourt will be the club's regular first baseman when Aramis Ramirez (knee) is activated from the disabled list Friday.
In turn, Alex Gonzalez will function as a utility infielder. The decision doesn't come as a big surprise, as Betancourt is off to a surprisingly hot start. We don't expect it to last, but he should be owned in deeper mixed leagues until Corey Hart (knee) is ready to return.

Sat Apr 27 201319:21Betancourt slotted as cleanup hitter Saturday
Yuniesky Betancourt will make his first career start out of the cleanup spot in the lineup on Saturday against the Dodgers.
Betancourt has been on a tear over the past two weeks, and owns a .277/.300/.523 line on the season, while being second on the team with four homers and 16 RBI. While there's no way he can maintain this pace, he could be worth an add in deeper mixed leagues while he's getting regular at-bats.

Tue Apr 23 201301:26Yuniesky Betancourt homers again
Yuniesky Betancourt ripped a three-run homer in Monday's 7-1 win over the Padres.
Ryan Braun took Jason Marquis deep first with a two-run shot, and Betancourt provided the exclamation point with the three-run bomb. Yuni is batting just .245 so far this month for the Brew Crew, but it's come along with a surprising three homers and 12 RBI. He obviously has his warts but is worth using in NL-only formats.

Thu Mar 28 201319:15Yuniesky Betancourt has big day Thursday
Yuniesky Betancourt had a big day Thursday in his first game back in a Brewers uniform, going 3-for-4 with a double and two-run homer against the Rockies.
Between his work with the Phillies and now with the Brew Crew, Yuni has batted a blistering .471 with 16 RBI this spring. He'll function as the backup middle infielder.

Wed Mar 27 201315:54Brewers ink INF Betancourt to one-year deal
Brewers signed INF Yuniesky Betancourt to a one-year contract.
Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports that he could earn a total of $1.4 million, including incentives. The 30-year-old batted just .228/.256/.400 with seven homers and 36 RBI in 57 games last season for the Royals and will serve as a utility infielder for Milwaukee.

Tue Mar 26 201315:44Brewers sign INF Yuniesky Betancourt
Justin Bopp of SB Nation reports that the Brewers have signed infielder Yuniesky Betancourt.
The deal was announced as a major league deal by Betancourt's agents, though it hasn't been confirmed by the team. Betancourt was released by the Phillies over the weekend after batting .447 (21-for-47) with one home run and 14 RBI this spring. He'll presumably function as a utility infielder.

Sun Mar 24 201316:15Phillies release Yuniesky Betancourt
Phillies released INF Yuniesky Betancourt.
Betancourt didn't make the Phillies' 25-man roster and has been given his release. He's batting .447 with a 1.025 OPS this spring and is expected to receive interest from multiple teams, including the Yankees and Cardinals. Freddy Galvis and Kevin Frandsen have now all but locked up Opening Day roster spots.

Fri Mar 22 201312:33Yuniesky Betancourt would use opt-out
Yuniesky Betancourt will ask for his release on Sunday if he's not added to the Phillies' 25-man roster.
Betancourt is batting .439 with a .957 OPS this spring, but the Phillies have other options to back up in the middle infield. Despite a career .266/.290/.392 batting line and shaky defense, Yuni wouldn't be out of a job long if released.

Sat Mar 16 201315:53Yuniesky Betancourt goes 3-for-4
Yuniesky Betancourt went 3-for-4 with a double Saturday against the Yankees.
Betancourt is batting .412 with seven RBI in 34 at-bats this spring. The Phillies appear content to stick with Freddy Galvis as a utilityman, which would leave no room for Betancourt on the roster. However, he can opt out of his deal next Sunday and may do so for the chance to latch on with another team.
