Sun Mar 310:26Alexis Diaz Strikes Out The Side In Spring Debut
Cincinnati Reds closer Alexis Diaz made his spring debut on Thursday in a 5-4 Cactus League win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 2023 All-Star struck out the side on nine pitches, generating six swing-and-misses, and the final to go down swinging was none other than perennial MVP candidate Mookie Betts. It looks like Diaz is ready for the regular season to begin and put a rough second half of last season behind him. The righty posted a 4.61 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in the second half of 2023, versus a first half that saw a 2.03 ERA and 1.03 WHIP. Nevertheless, even though it could be a bumpy ride, the 27-year-old will be a top-15 RP option in 2024.

Mon Sep 25 202300:46Ian Gibaut Collects Third Save, Alexis Diaz Used In Eighth
Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Ian Gibaut recorded a rare save on Sunday, shutting the door on the Pittsburgh Pirates in a 4-2 victory. Gibaut pitched a clean ninth inning, allowing no baserunners and striking out none. It is noteworthy that usual closer Alexis Diaz was used in the eighth inning of this one, something the Reds don't typically do. With their postseason chances hanging on the line, though, they went with what they thought would give them the best chance of winning. This sets up a potentially frustrating final week for Diaz owners, who may see the 26-year-old appear in more non-save situations if the Reds' feel it is necessary.

The Reds would go on to score in the 10th and turn to Buck Farmer to close the game out, making Diaz the pitcher of record. Although he had a bit of a rough patch recently, Diaz has been outstanding this season, going 9-4 with 35 saves, a 2.19 ERA, an 11.68 K/9 rate, and a 4.23 BB/9 rate. He has been a top fantasy asset and should continue to be for the final few weeks.

He is tied with Camilo Doval and Jordan Romano for the league lead in saves. The right-hander owns a 2.08 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 59 strikeouts across 39 innings in 2023. Diaz is one of the best closers in 2023, and fantasy managers should continue to roll with him in all league formats.

Mon Jun 12 202309:46Alexis Diaz Collects 15th Save
Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Alexis Diaz was asked to shut the door with a one-run lead versus the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday. The right-hander had little issues in this one as he retired all three batters to record his 15th save of the season. It's worth noting that Diaz needed to throw 20 pitches in this game, so he might not be available on Monday. If that's the case, Lucas Sims or Buck Farmer could be asked to close down the game. Diaz now holds a 1.71 ERA, 0.84 WHIP with 48/12 K/BB ratio across 26.3 innings of work this season. He continues to be one of the best closers in baseball and hasn't blown a game yet this season.

Fri Apr 14 202300:35Alexis Diaz Gets One-Out Save Thursday
Cincinnati Reds right-handed pitcher Alexis Diaz nabbed his second save of the season on Thursday, recording the final out in a 6-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. It looked like Diaz wasn't going to get into this one, as the Reds opted not to go with their closer in what was a four-run game going into the ninth. Fortunately for Diaz' fantasy owners, he ended up coming in for the final out after Derek Law allowed two hitters to reach base. Diaz then struck out Trea Turner for the one-out save. He should continue getting the majority of save opportunities for the Reds, although he might see some work earlier in games in high-leverage spots.

Sun Apr 2 202319:55Alexis Diaz Records Second Save
Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Alexis Diaz took the mound for the second day in a row during Sunday's matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The right-hander struck out one batter in what ended up being a perfect inning. Diaz has picked up back-to-back saves during the first series of the season. That being said, it wouldn't be shocking to see Diaz unavailable for Monday's contest. That means, Ian Gibaut or Buck Farmer could be asked to take the ball in the ninth inning, assuming Diaz doesn't pitch on Monday.
