Tue Feb 614:51Mariners Claim Collin Snider Off Waivers From Diamondbacks
The Seattle Mariners claimed right-handed reliever Collin Snider off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday, bringing Seattle's 40-man roster to capacity. Snider will give the Mariners some relief depth heading into spring training. The 28-year-old former 12th-round pick by the Kansas City Royals in 2017 out of Vanderbilt appeared in 20 games (one start) for KC last year and allowed 12 runs (11 earned) on 24 hits (three homers) while walking 13, recording his first career save and striking out 11 in 20 1/3 innings pitched. The ground-ball pitcher posted a bloated 6.55 ERA (4.45 FIP) and 1.60 WHIP while walking 15 and striking out 22 in 42 relief outings in his rookie campaign in 2022.

The Arizona Diamondbacks designated right-hander Collin Snider for assignment on Tuesday to make room on the 40-man roster for recently signed outfielder/designated hitter Joc Pederson. The D-backs picked Snider up off waivers from the Kansas City Royals last month, but the 28-year-old could be on the move again. He made his major-league debut in 2022 with the Royals and has a 5.93 ERA (5.03 FIP), 1.68 WHIP, one save, 28 walks and 33 strikeouts in 54 2/3 innings over 62 appearances (one start) in his two big-league seasons. In 20 1/3 innings pitched in 2023, Snider allowed 12 runs (11 earned) on 24 hits (three homers allowed) while walking 13 and striking out 11. He'll operate as organizational relief depth with whatever team he's with heading into spring training in 2024.

Snider, a former 12th-round selection out of Vanderbilt by the Royals in 2017, made his big-league debut with the Royals in 2022 and has made 62 relief appearances (54 2/3 innings) for KC the last two seasons. Thu Mar 9 202314:24Collin Snider Looking Good This Spring
Kansas City Royals relief pitcher Collin Snider has looked good so far in Cactus League games, allowing just one hit and no runs while walking none and striking out three in three relief innings to this point. The 27-year-old right-hander is unlikely to have a high-leverage role in KC's bullpen in 2023, but he's one to watch. In his rookie season for the Royals in 2022 he struggled, going 4-2 with a 6.55 ERA (4.45 FIP), 1.60 WHIP, seven holds and weak 14.6 percent strikeout rate in 34 1/3 relief innings over 42 appearances out of the bullpen. His track record in the minors (5.92 ERA at Triple-A Omaha) doesn't bode well for future success in the majors, either.
