Tue Jul 7 201510:45Bloomquist released by Mariners on Monday
Bloomquist was released by the Mariners on Monday, MLB.com's Greg Johns reports.
Unsurprisingly, the Mariners couldn't find a trading partner interested in acquiring a 37-year-old utility infielder, and as a long-time major-league veteran, Bloomquist was unwilling to accept an assignment to the minors. Bloomquist will look around and explore his options elsewhere, but given his age and the woeful .159/.194/.174 batting line he submitted with the Mariners this season, it could be the end of the road for him.

Seattle Mariners infielder Willie Bloomquist was released on Monday, according to MLB.com. Bloomquist has a .269/.316/.342 battling line over a 14-year career, but at 37 years old he may not be able to find a major league job with another organization.
Thu Jul 2 201514:11Boomquist designated for assignment Thursday
Boomquist was designated for assignment Thursday, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports.
The Mariners needed to make a move to clear a roster spot for shortstop Chris Taylor, and the 37-year-old Boomquist is the casualty. Bloomquist played seven-and-a-half seasons with the Mariners, but his effectiveness has diminished of late, and he no longer holds much value as a pinch hitter and utility defensive player. Bloomquist will be subject to waivers and is unlikely to return to Seattle. He took to Twitter on Thursday afternoon to express his gratitude to the Seattle organization.

Bloomquist is in the lineup Wednesday against the Giants, batting seventh and playing left field.
Bloomquist hasn't started a game in left field since May 20 against Baltimore, but it's his career numbers against Madison Bumgarner that may have earned him a spot in the order Wednesday. He is 6-for-16 lifetime with a home run and no strikeouts against Bumgarner.

Bloomquist went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts Monday in only his fourth start of the season.
Bloomquist has played only seven games this season, making his second start at first base Monday. His defense at shortstop, though, is not good, and he offers nothing at the plate. The Mariners probably would be better off calling up Chris Taylor to take his roster spot. The problem with that scenario, though, is the backup first baseman would be Rickie Weeks.

Bloomquist underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee last August, but was able to return fully healthy for the spring. He figures to once again serve in a utility role in the Mariners' infield, but likely won't see too many at bats on a consistent basis.

Bloomquist (knee) is scheduled to make his Cactus League debut Sunday, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.

Fri Feb 13 201519:25Bloomquist (knee) expected to be ready for start of season
Bloomquist (knee) is expected to be ready for the start of the season, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
A knee injury forced Bloomquist onto the DL shortly after the All-Star break and it was later determined that he needed microfracture surgery. The 37-year-old appears on track for Opening Day, with GM Jack Zduriencik saying that the team's recent signing of Rickie Weeks was unrelated to Bloomquist's health and that there's room for both players on the major league roster.

Bloomquist (knee) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Monday.
Bloomquist's season was already wiped away due to a right knee concern, which required microfracture surgery in early August. The move was merely procedural in order to open up a 40-man roster spot for a September call-up.

Bloomquist (knee) had micro fracture surgery Friday and is done for the season, the Seattle Times' Ryan Divish reports.
This shouldn't come as a surprise, as we already knew he would need surgery, and the only thing that wasn't clear was how long he would be out. Feel free to cut ties with the utility infielder in single-season leagues.

Bloomquist is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Friday morning, MLB.com's Greg Johns reports.
Bloomquist's rehab hasn't been progressing as expected, so the infielder will now turn to surgery to correct the issue. His expected absence has yet to be announced, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him miss the remainder of the 2014 regular season.

Bloomquist (knee) is not yet close to being able to return, the Tacoma News Tribune's Bob Dutton reports.
He is going to meet with team doctors soon, but his rehab from a knee bruise is going slow, so it could be a couple weeks at least before he returns to a utility role with the Mariners.

Tue Jul 22 201401:06Bloomquist's 3 hits leads Mariners to victory
Willie Bloomquist went 3-for-5 with a steal, two runs scored, and an RBI double in a win over the Mets on Monday.
Somebody out there will wake up tomorrow morning grinning ear-to-ear that Bloomquist was in his AL-only fantasy lineup tonight. Chances are, that isn't you. In truth, nobody could have seen a big night coming from the veteran utilityman. This was Bloomquist's first steal of the season, his first three-hit game of the year, and the double represented his first extra-base hit since June 22. Willie Bloomquist will now return to being Willie Bloomquist.

Bloomquist finished the game with two doubles, but it was his RBI double in the fifth inning that pulled the Mariners even with the Royals. Bloomquist's playing time has been sporadic -- he's got just 10 starts this month -- but he's got five multi-hit games in that stretch. The infielder is batting .280/.299/.366 and is a non-factor in fantasy.
