Fri Apr 519:28Twins Acquire Diego Castillo From Orioles
The Minnesota Twins acquired Triple-A infielder Diego Castillo from the Baltimore Orioles on Friday in exchange for cash considerations. The Twins now have two Diego Castillos on the Triple-A St. Paul roster -- one a pitcher and one a position player. The 26-year-old Venezuelan will give the Twins some more infield depth in the minors with third baseman Royce Lewis (quadriceps) out at least a couple of months with a severe quad strain. Castillo can play some outfield as well but is likely to stick at St. Paul for now. The fact that he's been with six different teams this offseason tells you all you need to know. Castillo made his MLB debut in 2022 with the Pittsburgh Pirates and hit .206/.251/.382 with 11 homers and 29 RBI in 96 games but had just one trip to the plate in the majors in 2023 with Arizona.

Fri Jan 519:21Mets Claim Diego Castillo Off Waivers From Diamondbacks
The New York Mets claimed infielder Diego Castillo off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday. Castillo was dropped from Arizona's 40-man roster this offseason when the team re-signed Lourdes Gurriel Jr. He had just one plate appearance at the major-league level with the Snakes in 2023 after hitting .206 (54-for-262) with 11 home runs, 29 RBI and 28 runs scored in 96 games in his rookie year with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2022. The 26-year-old Venezuelan infielder hit an impressive .313 (142-for-454) at Triple-A Reno, adding only three home runs, 72 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 124 games. Castillo will mostly likely open the 2024 season at Triple-A Syracuse as infield depth for the Mets.

Wed Jun 8 202222:28Diego Castillo Strikes Out The Side, Earns Fourth Save
Seattle Mariners pitcher Diego Castillo struck out the side over a scoreless inning to earn the save during Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Houston Astros. He entered the ninth inning to protect a three-run lead. The 28-year-old has now notched back-to-back saves over his last two appearances. He's been efficient as of late, tossing eighth consecutive scoreless innings. The right-hander owns a 5.57 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and 28 strikeouts over 21 innings. Castillo has recently split closing duties with Paul Sewald and is worth rostering in most league formats for fantasy managers searching for saves.

Tue Jun 7 202200:44Diego Castillo Earns Third Save Of Season Monday
Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Diego Castillo picked up his third save of the season in Monday's 7-4 win over the Astros. Castillo entered to pitch the ninth inning with a three-run lead. He got the first two outs on a ground out and line out, walked a batter, and then got the final out on another ground out. The 28-year-old has converted all three of his save opportunities this season and has a 3-0 record, but he also has a 5.85 ERA and 4.05 BB/9 rate over 20 innings pitched. The Mariners have not had a clear approach to saves this season, and Castillo's poor overall performance limits his fantasy value at this time, even in deep roto leagues.

Sun May 15 202219:29Diego Castillo Records Second Save
Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Diego Castillo earned his second save of the season against the New York Mets on Sunday. Right-hander Drew Steckenrider came in the begin the ninth, but allowed four hits and two runs. The Mariners handed over the ball to Castillo who recorded the final two outs of the game. In May, Castillo has allowed nine runs in three outings. That being said, he's a risky option even if he's given more chances in the ninth inning. At the moment, Paul Sewald appears to be the favorite to get the ball in the ninth inning.

Sun Apr 10 202212:44Diego Castillo Starting At Second Base
Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Diego Castillo is starting at second base and batting fifth on Sunday against St. Louis Cardinals left-hander Steven Matz. Castillo is getting his first start of the season for the Bucs. Hoy Park has only started one of the team's first three games at the keystone. Castillo had a 1.281 OPS and six home runs in 14 Grapefruit League games and could carve out more playing time early on if he can continue to swing a hot bat. The 24-year-old Venezuelan has one double in four at-bats so far this year in his MLB debut. Castillo .278/.355/.487 with 19 home runs, 55 RBI, 73 runs scored and nine stolen bases in 440 plate appearances over 105 games with three different minor league teams in 2021.
