The Cincinnati Reds claimed right-hander Franklin German off waivers from the Chicago White Sox on Monday and optioned him to Triple-A Louisville. German was recently designated for assignment by Chicago after not playing a single major-league game for them in 2023. The 25-year-old made his big-league debut for the Boston Red Sox in 2022 and allowed eight runs on seven hits (two home runs) while walking four and striking out four in four innings over five relief appearances. He had recorded 16 strikeouts in 11 1/3 innings at Triple-A Charlotte before being cut by the White Sox, but he also had nine walks and an ERA north of 7.00. The Chicago White Sox acquired right-handed reliever Franklin German from the Boston Red Sox on Friday in exchange for right-hander Theo Denlinger. To make room on the 40-man roster, the White Sox designated right-hander Jason Bilous for assignment. The Red Sox had designated German for assignment on Monday to make room on the roster for reliever Richard Bleier. German, 25, made his major-league debut last year for Boston, but he surrendered a whopping eight earned runs on seven hits (two homers) while walking four and striking out four in four relief innings.
