Tue Apr 201:04Spencer Steer Hits Go-Ahead Grand Slam
Cincinnati Reds utilityman Spencer Steer continued his hot streak in Monday's 6-3 extra-innings win over the Phillies, going 2-for-5 with a double, a 10th-inning, go-ahead grand slam, and a strikeout. The 26-year-old has started 2024 where he left off in 2023, slashing .400/.471/.733 with seven RBI and a stolen base in his first 17 plate appearances. His multi-position eligibility and strong lineup context should keep Steer as a valuable fantasy asset in the early going.

Thu Mar 1411:54Spencer Steer Collects Two Hits Wednesday
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Spencer Steer went 2-for-3 on Wednesday in a 19-11 Cactus League win over the Giants. One of Steer's hits went for extra bases, a double in the second inning, and he also walked once. The 26-year-old crossed the plate three times in the contest as well. The righty is now hitting .296 (8-for-27) in the spring, with one home run, five RBI, six runs scored and two stolen bases. Steer is a nice power-speed combo guy, with 23 HR and 15 SB in 665 PA last season. He also plays in one of the friendliest hitting environments around, Great American Ball Park, but his ADP has gotten a bit out in front of his RotoBaller rank, at 102 and 110 respectively.

Wed Mar 1321:49Spencer Steer Crosses Plate Three Times In Win
Cincinnati Reds outfielder/infielder Spencer Steer chipped in three runs during Wednesday's 19-11 Cactus League win over the San Francisco Giants, going 2-for-3 with a walk. It was certainly a high-scoring affair on Wednesday, and Steer was able to maintain his strong spring returns. In 26 spring training at-bats, the versatile 26-year-old is batting .296 with an .836 OPS, one home run, five RBI, and three stolen bases. After his first stint in the big leagues went poorly in 2022, Steer was a revelation for the Reds a season ago and finished sixth in National League Rookie of the Year voting via a .271/.356/.464 slash line, 23 homers, 37 doubles, 86 RBI, and 15 stolen bases across 665 trips to the plate. Steer is a 2024 regression candidate due to his .252 xBA and .417 xSLG on Statcast, but his position eligibility is appealing, and Noelvi Marte's 80-game suspension means Steer will be needed for everyday ABs during at least the first half in Cincy.

Fri Mar 812:20Spencer Steer Plays Long Ball Thursday
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Spencer Steer slugged a solo home run as part of a 2-2 tie on Thursday versus the Chicago Cubs. The 26-year-old didn't waste much time as his first homer of the spring got the Reds on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Steer impressed in his first full tour through the big leagues in the 2023 season, hitting .271 with 23 home runs, 15 stolen bases, 86 RBI, and an .820 OPS across 156 games and a hefty 665 trips to the plate. It was a big turn of events following his 28-game debut in the 2022 season in which he limped to a .211 average with two homers across 108 plate appearances. He projects for some regression with 20 homers and nine steals in the 2024 season and could be overvalued with a 114.6 ADP.

Fri Mar 808:47Spencer Steer Blasts First Homer Of Spring
Cincinnati Reds outfielder Spencer Steer went 1-for-3 with his first homer of the Cactus League on Thursday against the Chicago Cubs. Steer, 26, is one of the influx of young talented players that the Reds will deploy in their lineup and is coming off a season in which he helped managers across the board. In 2023, Steer hit a respectable .271 with 23 homers, 86 RBI and 15 stolen bases. The Reds young lineup offers plenty of potential heading into the season and Steer is not only going to be in the middle of it, but he might offer the most bang for managers buck with an ADP of 101. He is absolutely worth the attention of managers in all formats.

Sun Mar 310:04Spencer Steer Goes Hitless Saturday, Draws A Walk
Cincinnati Reds multi-positional player Spencer Steer was 0-for-2 with a walk in a 10-4 Cactus League loss to the Colorado Rockies on Saturday. After snagging two hits in his first spring game, Steer is now hitless in five straight at-bats, making him 2-for-8 with a walk, two RBI, and a run scored so far this spring. Steer had a breakout 2023 with a .271-23-86-74-15 line and is expected to put up similar numbers in 2024, although his projections are somewhat lighter across the board. The 15 steals were a welcome surprise after not stealing many bases during his minor league career. Combined with his multi-positional eligibility and hitting in one of the most hitter-friendly ballparks in all of baseball make him an attractive asset going into 2024 drafts.

Fri Dec 8 202300:09Spencer Steer Could Be Headed For Full-Time Outfield Role
Cincinnati Reds third baseman Spencer Steer could be set up to play the outfield regularly moving forward following the team's acquisition of corner infielder Jeimer Candelario this week. When the Reds traded for Steer in 2022, he brought up the idea of learning the outfield to the team's player development staff because he recognized that the Reds already had a surplus of infielders. The 26-year-old did make 38 starts in the outfield for the Reds in 2023, so it's not like he has absolute zero experience out there. Adding outfield eligibility to his fantasy profile would make Steer even more attractive to fantasy managers heading into draft season next spring after he slashed .271/.356/.464 with an .820 OPS, 23 home runs, 37 doubles, three triples, 86 RBI, 15 stolen bases and 74 runs scored in 156 games in his first full big-league season.

Mon Jul 17 202317:20Spencer Steer Absent From Monday's Lineup
Cincinnati Reds infielder Spencer Steer is absent from the starting lineup for Monday's game against the San Francisco Giants. Fantasy managers don't need to worry as this appears to be a routine day off for the right-handed slugger. Steer has been struggling at the plate lately, so he could use a day off to clear his head. Steer is 1-for-24 with 11 strikeouts over his last seven games. Christian Encarnacion-Strand will serve as the designated hitter and bat seventh versus right-hander Logan Webb on Monday.

Mon Jul 10 202315:02Spencer Steer Excelling So Far In 2023
In his first full major-league season so far in 2023, Cincinnati Reds infielder Spencer Steer has made a name for himself. He's been a big part of the reason why the Reds head into this week's All-Star break sitting atop the National League Central division, as he's currently slashing .277/.367/.477 with an .844 OPS, 14 home runs, 19 doubles, two triples, 51 RBI, nine stolen bases and 45 runs scored in 376 trips to the plate over 88 games played. The 25-year-old former third-round pick of the Twins in 2019 did have a four-hit game on the Fourth of July last Tuesday, but he's heading into the break hitless in 15 at-bats in the last four games. Steer hasn't started out the month of July hitting that well, but he should remain a key piece of the Reds offense in the second half of the season, and he should be rostered in all fantasy leagues.

Fri May 26 202318:47Spencer Steer A Home Run Away From The Cycle On Friday
Cincinnati Reds infielder Spencer Steer went 3-for-6 with an RBI, a run scored, and a strikeout in a 9-0 shutout win over the Chicago Cubs on Friday. Steer was a home run away from the cycle in this one as he opened up the scoring with his first three-bagger of the season. After he laced an RBI triple off Justin Steele to score Matt McLain he picked up two more hits, a double and a single. Steer is now slashing .285/.353/.478 to go along with six home runs, 23 RBI, and one stolen base over 186 at-bats. The 25-year-old rookie continues to impress and is worthy of being rostered in 12-team mixed leagues.

Thu Apr 20 202314:21Spencer Steer Returns To Lineup Thursday
Cincinnati Reds third baseman Spencer Steer will return to the lineup Thursday after dealing with a knee/quadriceps issue over the last few days. The 25-year-old will be a welcomed addition to the Reds' lineup as he's off to a hot start this season. Steer is hitting .320 with two homers, one steal, and a .944 OPS across 59 trips to the plate. It's a marked improvement over his big-league debut from last season in which he scuffled to a .211 average with two homers and a .632 OPS across 28 games in his age-24 season. He does have a lengthy history of hitting for power in the minor leagues and could be a solid source of home runs while playing his home games at the hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. He'll take on a fellow youngster in Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Roansy Contreras Thursday night.

Thu Mar 23 202319:40Spencer Steer Expected To Be Reds Opening Day 3B
After struggling in his first look at the majors last September, Cincinnati Reds third baseman Spencer Steer has flipped the script this spring. In 39 at-bats, he owns a blistering .913 OPS, including six extra-base hits. He's showcasing why the Reds targeted him as a core piece in the Tyler Mahle trade. Cincinnati has yet to confirm Steer as their starting third baseman, but all signs point to him as the overwhelming favorite. Steer smacked 23 home runs and posted an .879 OPS across 106 games between Double-A and Triple-A last season, demonstrating offensive upside that should excite the Reds and fantasy managers.

Thu Dec 15 202213:42Spencer Steer To Get A Look At Third Base
The rebuilding Cincinnati Reds plan to give infielder Spencer Steer a long look at third base going into next season, according to manager David Bell. Steer played in his first 28 major-league games in 2022, going 20-for-95 (.211) with two home runs, eight RBI and 12 runs scored in 108 plate appearances. Most of the 25-year-old's playing time came at the hot corner, both in the majors and minors, but he also has experience at second base and shortstop in his time on the farm. Veteran Mike Moustakas should also see time at third base, but the Reds appear to be more excited for Steer moving forward. Steer hit .274/.364/.515 with an .879 OPS, 23 home runs, 75 RBI, 80 runs scored and four stolen bases in three different minor-league stops last year.
