Wed May 3 202308:04Josh Winckowski Saves Tuesday's Contest
Boston Red Sox right-hander Josh Winckowski picked up his first save of the season on Tuesday when he finished the 7-6 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. He went one inning, allowing one hit and no walks while striking out zero. The 24-year-old Winckowski has been lights out for the Sox thus far, posting a 1.61 ERA with 17 strikeouts, five walks, and three holds over 22.1 innings. With Kenley Jansen (back) day-to-day, the club needed someone to step into his shoes. However, don't expect Winckowski to see many more opportunities, as Jansen should be back in a day or two.

Thu Mar 23 202320:46Josh Winckowski To Begin Season In Bullpen
Boston Red Sox pitcher Josh Winckowski will begin the regular season in the bullpen. The 24-year-old was mainly a starter with the team last season. However, he struggled with a 5.89 ERA with 10 home runs allowed in 15 games (14 starts) in 2022. The right-hander looked much better this spring, allowing two unearned runs with 10 strikeouts over 10 innings of work. His move to the bullpen should open up a spot for Kutter Crawford in the starting rotation. There's a good chance that Winckowski operates as the swingman in the Red Sox bullpen. He's not expected to have much fantasy value to begin the season.

Mon Aug 22 202216:29Josh Winckowski To Start Tuesday
The Boston Red Sox announced that rookie right-hander Josh Winckowski will be recalled from Triple-A Worcester in order to make the start on Tuesday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder) could wind up on the injured list in a corresponding move after he was scratched from his start on Tuesday. Winckowski, 24, has gone 5-6 with a 5.19 ERA (5.22 FIP), 1.50 WHIP, 36 strikeouts and 21 walks in 60 2/3 innings in his first 12 major league starts for Boston this year. He could stick in the starting rotation for multiple turns if Eovaldi goes on the injured list, but Winckowski has been pretty unreliable for fantasy managers in his rookie season. The matchup against Toronto isn't a very good one either.

Thu Aug 18 202211:17Nathan Eovaldi Scratched, Josh Winckowski To Start
Boston Red Sox right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (neck, shoulder) has been scratched from his scheduled start on Thursday against the Pittsburgh Pirates due to soreness in his neck and shoulder. In his place, rookie right-hander Josh Winckowski will get the start. Eovaldi still thinks he can pitch, so the injury doesn't appear to be very serious, but the Red Sox won't take any chances. The 32-year-old has been solid in his 18 starts for Boston in 2022, going 5-3 with a 4.15 ERA (4.50 FIP), 1.26 WHIP, 96 strikeouts and 18 walks in 99 2/3 innings pitched. Consider him day-to-day for now. Winckowski has gone 5-5 with a 4.69 ERA, a 1.49 WHIP and a 34:20 K:BB in 55 2/3 innings over 11 starts. He'll be in the streaming conversation on Thursday against the Bucs.

Boston Red Sox right-hander Josh Winckowski has cleared the league's COVID-19 health and safety protocols. He will be the team's starting pitcher for Tuesday's game against the Cleveland Guardians. The 24-year-old has been on the COVID-19 injured list for about two weeks. He's seen his first exposure to the majors this year and the results have been mixed. Over seven starts, he's gone 3-4 with a 4.38 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. He's turned in quality starts in three of his last five outings.

Thu Jun 9 202211:18Josh Winckowski Continues To Impress In Triple-A
Boston Red Sox pitching prospect Josh Winckowski threw a gem for Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday. The right-hander tossed seven innings and allowed three hits, zero runs, one walk and struck out six on the evening. Winckowski has been having an excellent year for Worcester and improved to 2-2 with a 3.38 ERA and 0.96 WHIP to go along with 43 strikeouts in 42 2/3 innings in nine starts. The 23-year-old made his debut with the Red Sox in a spot start earlier this year and it wouldn't be surprising to see him back at the big-league level this summer. Winckowski offers more value in dynasty leagues at the moment and if he's recalled, managers in redraft leagues can take a wait-and-see approach.

Sat May 28 202211:15Josh Winckowski Called Up To Start Game 2
The Boston Red Sox called up right-hander Josh Winckowski on Saturday to serve as the team's 27th man for their doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles. Winckowski will start Game 2. In corresponding moves, the team placed right-hander Hansel Robles (back) on the 15-day injured list with back spasms and optioned right-hander Hirokazu Sawamura from Triple-A Worcester. Right-handers Ryan Brasier and Phillips Valdez were also recalled from Worcester. Winckowski will be making his major league debut against the O's after posting a 3.13 ERA and 0.85 WHIP while walking six and striking out 34 in 31 2/3 innings over seven starts for Worcester. The 23-year-old might be worth a look as a streaming sleeper in DFS against Baltimore.

Sat May 21 202213:41Josh Winckowski Could Make MLB Debut Next Saturday
Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora hinted that pitching prospect Josh Winckowski could be a candidate to start one of the games in the team's doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles next Saturday. Winckowski is ranked as the team's No. 13 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline. He has made six starts at Triple-A this year and he's pitched to a 2.10 ERA and a 0.82 WHIP while averaging 9.8 K/9. However, he hasn't been going very deep in his starts, pitching just 25.2 total innings across those six outings. The 23-year-old is currently part of the team's 40-man roster. He has yet to pitch in the majors, so next Saturday could wind up being his MLB debut.
