Wed Apr 1017:11Garrett Mitchell Hoping To Return By June 1
Milwaukee Brewers general manager Matt Arnold said that outfielder Garrett Mitchell (finger) is hoping to return around June 1. Mitchell suffered a fractured left index finger at the end of spring training and was originally given a four- to six-week timetable for a return back in late March. The former 20th overall pick in 2020 out of UCLA didn't get a chance to showcase his power/speed combination last year, as he ended up playing in just 19 games due to a shoulder injury that required surgery. There remains plenty of long-term upside with Mitchell, but injuries have gotten in the way so far, and it doesn't help that Milwaukee's outfield is stacked. The 25-year-old deserves to be stashed at least in deep-mixed leagues. Until he's able to return, Sal Frelick and Blake Perkins should benefit from playing time in the outfield next to Christian Yelich and Jackson Chourio.

Wed Apr 312:33Garrett Mitchell Healing As Expected
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (finger) had an X-ray on Wednesday morning that showed his fractured left finger has not shifted and is healing as expected. The news keeps Mitchell on a four- to six-week timeframe for a return. Mitchell suffered the fractured finger late in spring training, another injury setback early in his career after he missed most of 2023 when he needed surgery on his shoulder. The 25-year-old former 20th overall pick in 2020 out of UCLA is most likely to make his 2024 debut in early May, barring any setbacks, but regular playing time is probably going to be an issue in Milwaukee's stacked outfield. His first-round pedigree alone, though, makes him worth stashing in deep-mixed and NL-only leagues. Mitchell hit .246 (16-for-65) with three homers and seven RBI in just 19 games last year.

Wed Mar 2719:45Garrett Mitchell Will Miss 6-8 Weeks
Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy said on Wednesday that outfielder Garrett Mitchell (finger) will miss six to eight weeks due to a fractured finger on his left hand. The good news for Mitchell is that his injured digit won't require surgery at this time. Mitchell thought his finger was fine the other day before undergoing X-rays, but that won't be the case. It's a tough blow for the 25-year-old, who only managed to appear in 19 games for the Brew Crew last year due to a left-shoulder injury that required surgery. The former first-round pick from UCLA shouldn't be out nearly as long this time around as he was in 2023. In a crowded outfield picture in Milwaukee, Mitchell figures to be on the strong side of a platoon in right field in 2024 when he's able to return from his injury. In the meantime, Sal Frelick will likely see most of the starts in right.

Mon Mar 2518:58Garrett Mitchell To Be Placed On Injured List
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (hand) is going to open the regular season on the injured list. This is a tough break after Mitchell recently underwent X-rays on his hand that swelled up on him. The X-rays revealed that Mitchell suffered a fracture in his left hand, which is going to cost him some time. The organization has not given a timetable for Mitchell, but they likely will in the coming weeks. The loss of Mitchell means that Christian Yelich, Jackson Chourio, and Sam Frelick will open the season as the starting outfielders in Milwaukee.

Mon Mar 2516:37Garrett Mitchell Feels Fine
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (hand) is scheduled for an X-rays on Monday on his hand after it swelled up a bit on Sunday after being jammed on a swing. Although the results of his X-rays aren't back yet, Mitchell said he feels fine and played catch with no issues on Monday. We'll have more information on the 25-year-old's X-rays, but for now, it looks like he avoided a serious injury and shouldn't have to start the 2024 regular season on the injured list. The former 20th overall pick in 2020 out of UCLA only played in 19 games in 2023 after needing surgery on his shoulder. There's a lot to like about Mitchell's plate discipline and his speed, but it could be hard for him to carve out regular playing time in Milwaukee's crowded outfield in what will be his first full MLB season if he can stay healthy.

Fri Mar 2221:34Garrett Mitchell Hits Grand Slam In Blowout Win
Milwaukee Brewers outfielderGarrett Mitchellwent 1-4 with a grand slam in Friday's 11-5 spring win against the Kansas City Royals. It was Wilson's first homer this spring. The 25-year-old has performed well this spring, slashing .319/.385/.811 in 47 AB. Wilson missed much of last year with a shoulder injury and may struggle to find a starting spot in Milwaukee's crowded outfield. ATC currently projects 415 PA for Wilson with a .240/.312/.376 slash line and 15 stolen bases. With MLB Pipeline's No. 2 prospectJackson Chourio making the Brewers' Opening Day roster, Mitchell may be the odd man out in the Brewers's outfield and is at risk of limited playing time even if healthy, making him mainly a stash in deep-league formats.

Thu Sep 28 202315:44Garrett Mitchell Reinstated, Brian Anderson DFA'd
The Milwaukee Brewers reinstated outfielder Garrett Mitchell (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list on Thursday and designated infielder/outfielder Brian Anderson for assignment in a corresponding move. Mitchell is starting in center field and batting ninth on Thursday against St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Dakota Hudson. Mitchell has been out since April 18 due to a shoulder injury that he had surgery on, so fantasy managers can't really expect much through the end of the regular season on Sunday. But the 25-year-old gives Milwaukee another outfield option as they get ready for the playoffs. Anderson had seen his playing time dip dramatically recently and was hitting only .226/.310/.368 on the season with nine home runs and 40 RBI in 318 at-bats.

Tue Sep 26 202318:52Garrett Mitchell Unlikely To Be Activated
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (shoulder) was originally expected to be activated from the injured list on Tuesday. He has joined up with the team, but reportedly isn't going to be activated yet. The Brewers would need to make a roster move in order to activate Mitchell back to the active roster. That being said, it's unclear if the Brewers plan on doing that before the regular season ends. The expectation is that Mitchell will be on the postseason roster, but that remains to be seen.

Mon Sep 25 202315:02Garrett Mitchell Could Return Tuesday
The Milwaukee Brewers haven't confirmed any official plans, but outfielder Garrett Mitchell (shoulder) could come off the 60-day injured list to rejoin the team on Tuesday. In eight games with Triple-A Nashville, Mitchell has slashed .188/.257/.250 with a triple and three stolen bases. He's gone 4-for-10 at the plate. The 25-year-old has missed the majority of the 2023 season after having surgery in early May to fix a subluxation and labrum damage in his left shoulder, but it appears Mitchell will return for the final week of the regular season and be available to the Brew Crew in the postseason. His impending return doesn't mean he'll necessarily be a lineup regular for Milwaukee in the playoffs, though, and he'll be competing for playing time with rookie Sal Frelick and Tyrone Taylor.

Sat Sep 16 202300:44Garrett Mitchell Starts Rehab Assignment On Friday
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (shoulder) commenced a rehab assignment at Triple-A Nashville on Friday. This is a pleasant surprise for Milwaukee after the 25-year-old sustained a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder in mid-April, which forecasted for him to miss the rest of 2023. Unfortunately for fantasy managers, Mitchell is unlikely to make much of an impact during the fantasy playoffs with any potential return not arriving until after Sep. 24, which marks the end of the Triple-A season. The speedy Mitchell will try to offer a jolt to a first-place Brewers club that hasn't received much out of his replacements with a .711 OPS from their center fielders. Mitchell hit .259 with a .772 OPS, three home runs, and six RBI during 58 at-bats in the spring.

Thu May 4 202316:51Garrett Mitchell Undergoes Surgery, Likely Out For The Year
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (shoulder) had shoulder surgery on Tuesday and is likely out for the rest of the season, although there remains a sliver of hope that he can return to play late in the year. "It was a serious surgery and the timeframe makes it unlikely, like we said," manager Craig Counsell said. "But we'll see." The 24-year-old tore the labrum in his left shoulder on a slide into third base on April 18, and he can be dropped in single-year fantasy leagues. Mitchell is a big part of Milwaukee's future, though, and he was hitting .259 (15-for-58) with a double, triple, three home runs, six RBI and a stolen base in 16 games before suffering the season-ending injury. Rookie Joey Wiemer has taken over primary center-field duties.

Fri Apr 21 202318:24Garrett Mitchell Could Need Season-Ending Surgery
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (shoulder) was recently placed on the 15-day injured list. The team didn't give a timetable for his return, but it sounds like the injury is fairly significant. Manager Craig Counsell said Mitchell's MRI showed significant damage to his labrum. The organization is going to get a second opinion, but this could cost Mitchell the rest of the 2023 season. A tough break for the 24-year-old outfielder who was beginning to get into a groove at the plate. In 16 games, Mitchell is slashing .259/.306/.466 with three homers, six RBI and a stolen base. Fantasy managers will have to check back for another update on his status.

Wed Apr 19 202314:23Garrett Mitchell Sent To 10-Day Injured List
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell is going on the 10-day injured list due to a left shoulder subluxation. It's yet another blow to a Brewers outfield that is already missing Tyrone Taylor while youngster Sal Frelick is dealing with a thumb issue. The club has promoted Blake Perkins to the big-league club as he's already on the Brewers' 40-man roster. Mitchell, 24, is off to a solid start this season with a .259 average, three homers, and one steal across 62 trips to the plate but he's also struck out in 38.7% of his plate appearances. Strikeouts have been an issue with Mitchell at the big-league level as he also punched out in 41.2% of his plate appearances in his 28-game debut in the 2022 campaign.

Wed Apr 19 202311:59Garrett Mitchell Dealing With Shoulder Subluxation
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (shoulder) appeared to suffer a shoulder subluxation while sliding into third base in the 10th inning of Tuesday's game against the Seattle Mariners. It remains to be seen what the severity is, but he will travel back to Milwaukee with the team on Wednesday and continues to receive treatment. We should have an update on his status soon, and fantasy managers should at least expect the 24-year-old to miss a few games, including Wednesday's series final against Seattle. Mitchell went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts before leaving on Tuesday, and he's now hitting .259 (15-for-58) with a double, triple, three home runs, six RBI, a stolen base and nine runs scored in 16 games in his second MLB season.

Wed Apr 19 202300:36Garrett Mitchell Exits Game Tuesday
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (unknown) exited Tuesday's game against the Mariners in the 10th inning after making a throw from center field. The 24-year-old had extended himself on a slide into third base in the top half of the inning and grabbed his arm/side in the bottom half after making a throw to home plate. He went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts before exiting. Fantasy managers should wait to hear more after the game, but it would be a loss for them if Mitchell were to miss time. He has gotten off to a solid start, slashing .278/.328/.500 with three home runs, six RBI, and a stolen base.

Thu Apr 6 202300:14Garrett Mitchell Nails A Home Run In Brewers Win
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell belted a walk-off solo home run to beat the Mets 7-6 on Wednesday. Mitchell went 1-for-2 from the plate after entering the game for Mike Brosseau as a pinch-hitter during the sixth inning. The 24-year-old has been outstanding for the Brewers, batting .300 through six games with three homers, five RBI, and six runs. Last season, he stole eight bases on eight attempts but has yet to swipe a bag in 2023 as of Wednesday.

Mon Mar 20 202314:59Garrett Mitchell Back In Cactus League Lineup
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (hamstring) is back in the team's Cactus League lineup on Monday against the Seattle Mariners and right-hander Logan Gilbert. Mitchell is starting in center field and is hitting leadoff for the Brew Crew. The 24-year-old will return to action after missing a week and a half due to right hamstring tightness. The Brewers are giving him every chance to win the regular center field duties this year after he made his major-league debut in 2022. Fantasy managers in mixed leagues should take notice. He hit .311 with two homers, nine RBI, nine runs scored and eight stolen bases in 28 games last year, and although Mitchell will likely have his ups and downs at the plate in his first full MLB season, he should be a stolen-base asset at the very least.

Wed Mar 15 202320:25Garrett Mitchell's Return Pushed Back
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (hamstring) reported tightness in his right hamstring during the March 9 Cactus League game against the San Francisco Giants, and the Brewers thought he might return to spring action during the weekend of March 18-19. However, now they are aiming for Mitchell to return around March 21. Manager Craig Counsell still thinks there will be enough time for Mitchell to get the at-bats he needs to feel ready for Opening Day. The 24-year-old will be given every chance to secure the team's regular center field job in 2023 after he hit .311 with two homers and eight stolen bases in 28 games in his major-league debut last year.

Sat Mar 11 202322:35Garrett Mitchell "Doing Good"
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (hamstring) is "doing good," according to manager Craig Counsell. The skipper also said that Mitchell would probably hit a little on Saturday and be back in the Cactus League lineup in around a week's time. Mitchell was removed from the game on Thursday with right hamstring tightness, but it doesn't appear that the injury will put him in danger of missing Opening Day later this month. The 24-year-old is being given every opportunity to be the team's regular center fielder in 2023 after the former first-rounder hit .311 with two home runs, nine RBI, nine runs scored and eight stolen bases in a small sample size of 28 games in his first taste of the big leagues last year. Mitchell is a very intriguing young player.

Fri Mar 10 202312:31Garrett Mitchell Dealing With Hamstring Tightness
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Garrett Mitchell (hamstring) was removed from Thursday's Cactus League game against the San Francisco Giants "for precautionary reasons with right hamstring tightness." There are no plans for Mitchell to undergo an MRI exam, though, and he's being listed as day-to-day. "I don't think you'll see him for a couple of days. I think we'll know tomorrow what's going on for sure, but at this point it doesn't look like that big of a deal. I can give you a better answer tomorrow, but that's what we're thinking/hoping," manager Craig Counsell said. It sounds as though the 24-year-old will be fine for Opening Day. Mitchell hit .311 in his first 28 big-league games in 2022, but he also struck out 28 times in 68 plate appearances. He will be given every chance to be Milwaukee's regular center fielder this year.
