Twins signed RHP Brad Thompson to a minor league contract.
Thompson, who turns 30 later this month, has a 4.46 ERA over six seasons in the big leagues between the Cardinals and Royals. He did not pitch professionally in 2011.

Astros released RHP Brad Thompson.
Thompson was signed by the Astros in June when he chose to become a free agent after the Royals designated him for assignment. He failed to make it up to the big club, posting an 8.87 ERA and 1.93 WHIP in 23 1/3 innings for Triple-A Round Rock.

The right-hander was designated for assignment last week after posting a 6.41 ERA over 16 relief appearances. Thompson, 28, may have a little trouble latching on with a contender, but there are plenty of desperate teams.

Thompson was cleared in order to make room for right-hander Kanekoa Texeira. The 28-year-old right-hander posted a 6.41 ERA over 16 relief appearances with the Royals.

Royals purchased the contract of RHP Brad Thompson from Triple-A Omaha.
If anything, Thompson is a less attractive bullpen option now than he was a few weeks ago. Not only did he have a 5.40 ERA for Omaha, but he wasn't even getting groundballs. He gave up 16 hits, walked one and struck out just three in 11 2/3 innings.
