Mon Apr 2217:46Quinn Priester Making Another Start Wednesday
Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Quinn Priester will get another start on Wednesday to face the visiting Milwaukee Brewers. Priester will get another shot at it for Pittsburgh despite allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits (three home runs) with one walk in 4 1/3 innings in his season debut last Friday against the Boston Red Sox. The 23-year-old is going to need to do better this week against a tough Brewers lineup if he wants any chance of remaining in the Pirates' rotation moving forward. The former 18th overall pick in 2019 out of high school just hasn't been very good so far in the big leagues, dating back to his debut in 2023, as he's gone 3-4 with a 7.79 ERA and 1.71 WHIP with 28 walks and 38 strikeouts in 54 1/3 innings over 11 outings (nine starts).

Thu Apr 1817:08Quinn Priester Expected To Start Against Boston On Friday
Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Quinn Priester is expected to be called up from Triple-A Indianapolis to make his first major-league start of the year on Friday against the Boston Red Sox, according to a source. The former 18th overall pick in 2019 out of high school struggled in his big-league debut last year by going 3-3 with a 7.74 ERA (6.74 FIP) and 1.70 WHIP with 27 walks and 36 strikeouts in 50 innings over 10 appearances (eight starts) for the Bucs. However, the 23-year-old was looking better with a 3.95 ERA, five walks and 20 K's in 13 2/3 innings in his first three starts for Indy this year. Priester could stick in Pittsburgh's starting rotation until left-hander Marco Gonzales (forearm) is able to return, but at best, he'll be a shaky streaming option in deeper fantasy leagues.

Tue Apr 218:39Quinn Priester Strikes Out Nine In Opener
Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Quinn Priester no longer has true prospect eligibility by MLB's standards, but he should be viewed as one given that he is 23 years old, still in Triple-A, and has 10 big league appearances under his belt. The right-hander gets good velocity behind his mid-90s heater and misses plenty of bats with his curveball. Priester appeared in the big league portion of Spring Training but reverted to the Triple-A roster for Opening Day. In his first outing of the campaign, he lasted 5.2 innings, allowing just one run, one hit, and one walk while striking out nine batters. He figures to be a long-term contributor for Pittsburgh.

Mon Apr 119:53Quinn Priester Excels In First Start
Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitching prospect Quinn Priester performed well in his first start of the season for Triple-A Indianapolis on Sunday. The right-hander went 5 2/3 innings and allowed one hit, one run, one walk and struck out nine on the evening. Priester missed a spot in the big-league rotation, but remains one of their best pitching prospects behind Paul Skenes. Priester struggled in his brief time in the big leagues this past season, but some more seasoning in Triple-A may be just what the young right-hander needs. Even though Paul Skenes is the hot name amongst Pirates prospects, Priester might have the upper hand on a promotion, should the idea present itself early in the season.

Wed Mar 609:25Quinn Priester Trying To Break Camp
Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Quinn Priester allowed one run on two hits with one walk and one strikeout against the Toronto Blue Jays in Tuesday's Grapefruit League contest. The 23-year-old came on in relief in this contest but will remain in a starting role, either for the Pirates or in Triple-A. Priester entered last season as the Pirates' top pitching prospect, but struggled during his rookie campaign by posting a 7.74 ERA and 1.70 WHIP across eight starts (10 appearances) at the big-league level. Still, Priester remains one of the Pirates' top prospects and will continue to make a case to break camp in the starting rotation, with Bailey Falter being his main competition. Priester can be ignored in redraft leagues for now, with his biggest value being in dynasty platforms.

Mon Jul 17 202301:29Quinn Priester Starting Monday
Pittsburgh Pirates top prospect Quinn Priester will make his MLB debut on Monday against the Cleveland Guardians. The Pirates' No. 4 prospect owns a mediocre 4.31 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, and 84:35 K/BB ratio in Triple-A this season, but the Bucs need pitching help immediately and are hoping Priester can give them that. For now, it is best to leave the rookie on the waiver wire in redraft leagues outside of NL-only and 15-teamers. He makes for a risky streaming option on Monday, even with a good matchup. Keep a close eye on the 22-year-old, though, as he has some upside for the rest of the season.

Sat Jul 15 202313:07Quinn Priester Expected To Be Promoted Next Week
Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher and top-prospect Quinn Priester is expected to be promoted for his MLB debut next week, per beat writer Jason Mackey. Priester was the Pirates' first-round selection (18th overall) in the 2019 draft and is considered the team's fourth-best prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. The 22-year-old righty owns a 4.31 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, and 84:35 K/BB ratio across 87 2/3 innings (18 starts) with Triple-A Indianapolis. Priester will likely make his MLB debut on Monday or Tuesday against the Cleveland Guardians. He's worth a stream in NL-only and deep mixed leagues due to his prospect pedigree.

Wed May 17 202309:36Quinn Priester Performing Well For Triple-A
Pittsburgh Pirates pitching prospect Quinn Priester put together his best performance of the season for Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday. The right-hander tossed a season-high seven innings and allowed five hits, one run, one walk and struck out nine. The nine strikeouts matched his previous high for the season. The former first round pick in 2019 missed some time in 2022 with an oblique injury, but that hasn't slowed his development as he is knocking on the door for a chance with the Pirates in 2023. Priester offers a four-pitch mix, with his curveball being his best pitch and a fastball in the 90's. For the season, the 22-year-old owns a 4.66 ERA with 42 strikeouts in 38 2/3 innings over eight starts. Don't let the ERA confuse you as most of that was due to a bad outing that he had in his first start of the season that he allowed six runs in. He is a name for managers in dynasty and redraft leagues to consider stashing with the Pirates needing pitching and having the ability to be patient with their young arm during a rebuild season.
