Wed Apr 1009:05George Kirby Continues To Struggle
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher George Kirby put up his second straight underwhelming start on Tuesday versus the Toronto Blue Jays. Over four innings, Kirby allowed eight hits and five runs. The good news is that his command was there with no walks, but he only struck out three on the evening. Kirby entered the season as a potential Top-10 option and managers will want to remain patient this early in the season. Looking forward, Kirby will look to get back on track versus the Cincinnati Reds on Monday.

Mon Feb 1914:37George Kirby Working On Knuckleball
Seattle Mariners right-hander George Kirby is still pushing to throw his knuckleball in games. He has been throwing it during flat-ground catch and usually throws a few during bullpen sessions. Kirby is obviously going to stick with his two fastballs, a slider and a splitter as his primary weapons in 2024, but we could begin to see a knuckleball every once in a while as well. It's something to keep an eye on, but it almost certainly won't have any bearing on his fantasy prospects as a top-10 starting pitcher this year. The 26-year-old reached a new level in 2023 with a 2.5 percent walk rate while also going 13-10 with a 3.35 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP, just 19 walks and a career-high 172 strikeouts in 190 2/3 innings over 31 starts in his second year in the majors.

Thu Dec 14 202321:49Red Sox Rebuffed On Logan Gilbert, George Kirby
It's no secret that the Boston Red Sox are looking for starting pitching help this offseason, whether through free agency or a trade, although they're far more interested in acquiring a pitcher with multiple years of control. They approached the Seattle Mariners about young right-handers Logan Gilbert and George Kirby but were rebuffed. It's going to take a lot to get the M's to move two young starters that they are trying to build around, and it's not like Boston has a very strong farm system to pull from to begin with. It's more likely that the Red Sox will go strong after a free-agent starter like Blake Snell, Jordan Montgomery or Lucas Giolito. They're also in the mix with Japanese star starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, but Boston is considered more of a long shot to land him to headline their starting rotation.

Sun Oct 1 202318:20George Kirby Picks Up Quality Start, Win
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher George Kirby threw six shutout innings in a 1-0 win over the Texas Rangers on Sunday. Kirby allowed three hits and zero walks, striking out seven. He moved to 13-10 on the season with a 3.35 ERA. The young righty hovered around a top-15 starting pitcher most of this season. Kirby finished with an ADP of 117, making him one of the best values in drafts this preseason. That number will surely shrink next year, as he should be a hot commodity for fantasy managers.

Tue Sep 26 202314:38George Kirby Looking To Narrow The Gap Tuesday Versus Astros
Seattle Mariners pitcher George Kirby will look to narrow his club's deficit in the playoff race when he takes on the rival Houston Astros at home on Tuesday night. After taking a 5-1 loss to the Astros on Monday, the Mariners now trail Houston by 1.5 games for the final Wild Card spot in the American League while they're now four games behind the Texas Rangers for first place in the AL West. The right-hander has enjoyed a fine sophomore season, working to a healthy 3.58 ERA and MLB-best 2.5% BB% across 29 starts and 178 2/3 innings of work. The 25-year-old sports a 3.10 ERA while limiting opponents to a .606 OPS across 81 1/3 innings at home as he looks to improve his club's playoff chances on Tuesday.

Thu Aug 31 202321:36George Kirby To Start On Sunday
Seattle Mariners right-hander George Kirby (illness) will make his next start on Sunday in New York against the Mets. Kirby was scratched from his start on Tuesday against the Oakland Athletics due to an illness, but he's apparently feeling better now and will close out the weekend series against the Mets. Right-handers Logan Gilbert and Luis Castillo will get the ball for the first two games of the series. Kirby's matchup on Sunday won't be as good as the one he had earlier this week against the A's, but he's still worth starting against the disappointing Mets. The 25-year-old first-time All-Star has gone 10-8 with a 3.28 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, a league-low 0.8 BB/9 and 142 strikeouts in 156 1/3 innings over his 25 starts.

Wed Aug 30 202316:05Mariners Hoping George Kirby Will Start This Weekend
Seattle Mariners manager Scott Servais said that the team hopes right-hander George Kirby (illness) will return to the starting rotation to face the New York Mets on either Saturday or Sunday. Fantasy managers were extremely bummed to learn that Kirby was scratched from his pristine matchup against the lowly Oakland Athletics on Tuesday, but he's apparently feeling better and won't be completely skipped in the rotation this weekend during a series against the Mets. The 25-year-old has been a must-start fantasy asset this year, going 10-8 with a 3.28 ERA (3.21 FIP), 1.03 WHIP, 14 walks and a career-high 142 strikeouts in 156 1/3 innings over his 25 starts. In his last five starts, he's allowed only nine earned runs while walking only two and fanning 30 in 32 2/3 frames.

Tue Aug 29 202320:12George Kirby Scratched With Illness
Seattle Mariners right-hander George Kirby (illness) has been scratched from his scheduled start on Tuesday against the Oakland Athletics due to an illness. Luke Weaver will start in his place. It's a tough break for fantasy managers, as Kirby should have been locked into all starting lineups in a pristine matchup against the worst team in the league. You'll have to check back later this week to see if the 25-year-old will be able to take the hill for his next scheduled start on Monday in a much tougher matchup against the Cincinnati Reds. Kirby made the All-Star team in just his second year in the bigs in 2023 and is currently 10-8 with a nice 3.28 ERA (3.22 FIP), 1.03 WHIP, 14 walks and 142 punchouts in 156 1/3 innings over 25 starts.

Thu Aug 17 202309:00George Kirby Set To Face The Royals Thursday
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher George Kirby is scheduled to start Thursday's matchup with the Kansas City Royals. The second-year player has proved he belongs in the big leagues, posting a 3.11 ERA and 1.00 WHIP with 131 strikeouts to just 14 walks across 144 2/3 innings. The Royals are at the bottom of the league in terms of offensive numbers, producing just a .696 OPS as a team, so fantasy owners should feel comfortable starting Kirby in all formats.

Fri Jul 21 202302:20George Kirby Has Excellent Start Against Twins
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher George Kirby was fantastic on Thursday, authoring one of his best starts of the season in a 5-0 win over the Minnesota Twins. Kirby threw seven shutout frames, allowing just four hits and compiling 10 strikeouts to zero walks. Although there have been a few hiccups, Kirby's first full MLB season has been a good one, as he now has a 3.23 ERA and 1.04 WHIP with an absurd 103:11 K:BB ratio in 119 IP. He has allowed more than one walk in a game once all season, and in that game he walked only two. His control gives him a very high floor, and he should be a safe fantasy option for years to come.

Fri Jul 14 202309:44George Kirby To Start On Saturday
Seattle Mariners right-hander hurler George Kirby will get the ball for Saturday's start against the Detroit Tigers, according to Daniel Kramer of MLB.com. The 25-year-old was solid in the first half of the season and was named to the American League All-Star team after posting a 3.09 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 20.8% strikeout rate, and an elite 2.3% walk rate. Kirby is already a relevant arm in all fantasy leagues, but he's a must-start against the Tigers, who own a .667 OPS as a team, in most formats.

Sat Jul 1 202322:17George Kirby Flirts With No-No In Outstanding Start
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher George Kirby hurled seven innings of two-run ball with seven strikeouts in Saturday's 8-3 victory against the Tampa Bay Rays. The 25-year-old carried a no-hit bid into the sixth frame before allowing a Yandy Diaz double and Luke Raley homer. That would signify the only damage in the hit column towards Kirby's otherwise superb outing and seventh win of the campaign. The former first-rounder has logged four straight quality starts, now sporting a 3.21 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and shiny 86:9 K:BB over 101 innings this year. Kirby has a difficult matchup against the Houston Astros set for Thursday.

Thu Jun 1 202303:55George Kirby Rebounds With Eight Scoreless Frames
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher George Kirby spun an eight-inning gem in the team's extra-inning, walk-off 1-0 win over the New York Yankees on Wednesday. The 25-year-old punched out seven hitters, gave up no runs, and matched a season-low with three hits allowed, but it was only enough for a no-decision. Kirby recovered in a big way, anyway, after unquestionably his worst start of the year last Friday when he let in seven runs against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The former first-rounder has exhibited impeccable control, walking no more than a single batter in each of his 11 starts in 2023. Kirby carries a strong 3.04 ERA and 1.01 WHIP with a picturesque 58:6 K:BB into his next start opposing the San Diego Padres next Wednesday.

Mon Apr 10 202309:46George Kirby Solid In Sunday's No-Decision
Seattle Mariners right-hander George Kirby allowed one run on five hits over six innings while striking out four in Sunday's 7-6 loss to the Cleveland Guardians. He did not factor into the decision. The 25-year-old bounced back after surrendering four runs on nine hits in the previous start. He yielded an RBI sacrifice fly to Jose Ramirez, his only earned run on Sunday. The right-hander owns a 4.35 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, and a 9:1 K: BB across 10 1/3 innings in 2023. Kirby's next start is at home on Saturday against the Colorado Rockies. Fantasy managers should roll with Kirby in a plus matchup in Week 3.

Tue Mar 14 202317:00George Kirby Adding Splitter To Repertoire
Seattle Mariners pitcherGeorge Kirbyhas added a splitter to his diverse repertoire this spring as he prepares to build on an excellent rookie season in 2022. Kirby has made a pair of Cactus-League starts this spring but has yielded three earned runs on five hits and a pair of walks across his 3 1/3-inning sample. The right-hander blew past expectations in his age-24 rookie season, tossing a 3.39 ERA alongside a pristine 20.5% K-BB% across 25 starts with the Mariners. Kirby began the season with five starts of 1.82 ERA ball alongside a whopping 34.4% K% at the Double-A level in 2022 and proceeded to become an integral part of the Mariners' rotation. Kirby said the new splitter will have an 8-10 mph drop in velocity from his four-seam fastball as he now sports seven different offerings heading into his sophomore campaign.

Wed Oct 12 202218:06George Kirby To Start Game 3 Of ALDS
Seattle Mariners manager Scott Servais confirmed that rookie right-hander George Kirby will start Game 3 of the American League Division Series on Saturday against the Houston Astros. It means that left-hander Robbie Ray, who gave up the game-winning, walk-off home run to Astros outfielder Yordan Alvarez in Game 1 on Tuesday, will not make a start in this series. Kirby looked good in his first 25 major-league starts during the regular season for the M's, going 8-5 with a 3.39 ERA (2.99 FIP), a 1.21 WHIP and a 133:22 K:BB in 130 innings pitched. He made one start against the Astros in 2022, allowing two earned runs on four hits while walking one and striking out seven in four innings pitched in a no-decision.

Fri Sep 23 202201:10George Kirby Has Off Day Thursday
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher George Kirby did not have his characteristic strong command Thursday, as he walked more than one batter for the first time in his career. Kirby gave up five runs on seven hits and three free passes while recording just seven outs. He struck out one. This was also the shortest outing of Kirby's career, and it raised his ERA and WHIP to 3.30 and 1.18 with 124 strikeouts in 120 innings this year. Despite the road bump, he has been extremely impressive in this rookie campaign, and he should be in high demand heading into 2023 fantasy drafts.

Sun Sep 18 202200:57George Kirby Strikes Out Eight In Loss
Seattle Mariners starting pitcher George Kirby had a nice night at the office on Saturday, although he was saddled with the loss as his team fell to the Angels 2-1. He allowed two runs on four hits and a walk in the 84-pitch performance, striking out eight batters on the night. Kirby allowed an RBI double to Shohei Ohtani in the first inning, and an RBI groundout in the fourth which ended up being the only two innings that he would allow a base runner. The 24-year-old has been impressive in his rookie season by sporting a 2.98 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 123 K through 117 2/3 IP as he'll look to keep it going in his next start versus the Athletics.
