Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. has been having a tremendous Cactus League this spring. Mon Feb 514:07Bobby Witt Jr. Signs Mega Extension With Royals
The Kansas City Royals and shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. are in agreement on an 11-year, $288.7 million contract extension, the second-largest pre-arbitration extension in MLB history. With three club options attached at the end of the deal, Witt could earn as much as $377.7 million over a 14-year period that would run through the 2037 season. Drafted with the second overall pick of the 2019 MLB Draft, Witt hit .276 with 30 home runs, 49 stolen bases, and an .814 OPS across 158 games in the 2023 season. He also improved his strikeout and walk rates, although he drew free passes just 5.8% of the time a season ago. Witt's elite power and speed combination makes his one of the most attractive fantasy baseball assets heading toward the 2024 season.

Fri Nov 10 202300:41Royals Willing To Consider Extension For Bobby Witt Jr.
It was looking unlikely that the Kansas City Royals could sign shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. to a big long-term extension after free-agent shortstops Trea Turner, Xander Bogaerts, Carlos Correa and Dansby Swanson agreed to contracts for a combined $957 million last offseason. It might still be a long shot, but the Royals are at least considering the idea of approaching Witt with an extension, according to a source briefed on the team's plans but not authorized to speak publicly. The Royals are currently trying to seek public financing for a new ballpark as part of a $2 billion project, so a long-term deal with one the game's brightest young stars might help sway public sentiment. Witt is coming off a season in which he hit 30 home runs, drove in 96 runs and stole 49 bases, and he has just two years of service time.

Sat Sep 30 202310:26Bobby Witt Jr. Joins Rarefied Air With Homer In Win
Kansas City Royals infielder Bobby Witt Jr. went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, two runs scored, and a walk in Friday's 12-5 victory over the New York Yankees. Witt walked and singled before a seventh-inning two-run blast halted whatever rally New York was staging in the face of a nine-run deficit. Not only did the 23-year-old's long ball make him KC's first 30-homer, 30-steal player in franchise history, but he also became the first to ever have 30 bombs, 10 triples, and 45 stolen bases in a single season. Witt has been one of the Royals offense's lone bright spots this year, hitting .275 with 96 RBI, 28 doubles, and 96 runs scored in 633 at-bats on a torrid second half. The former top prospect will probably be a first-round fantasy pick in Year 3.

Witt is an absolute must-start in all fantasy leagues when he's on the field, as he's hitting .268 (120-for-447) on the year with 20 home runs, 67 RBI, 32 stolen bases and 59 runs scored in 110 games in just his second big-league campaign. Sat Jul 29 202300:34Bobby Witt Jr. Shines With Six RBI In Walk-Off Win
Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. went off in Friday's 8-5 extra-inning win over the Minnesota Twins, going 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, six RBI and a stolen base. The 23-year-old put on a thrilling display in this one, starting the show with a first-inning single. Witt then doubled in a sixth-inning run before ultimately coming around to score in the frame. An eighth-inning RBI single would precede an exhilarating walk-off grand slam in the 10th to cap off a simply wonderful evening for the 2019 No. 2 overall pick. Witt is slashing a very productive .257/.296/.451 with 17 dingers, 57 RBI and 29 stolen bases in 417 at-bats as one of baseball's most exciting rising stars.

Thu Jul 20 202312:22Bobby Witt Jr. Getting A Breather
Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. is taking a day off on Thursday against the visiting Detroit Tigers. Maikel Garcia will get the nod at shortstop instead and will bat in the leadoff spot against Tigers right-hander Michael Lorenzen. Nicky Lopez will also enter the lineup and play third base. Witt has gone hitless in his last 13 at-bats over three games, so it's a good time to give him a little breather. Overall, though, the second-year shortstop remains a must-start for fantasy managers. He's currently hitting .251/.292/.447 with 16 home runs, 16 doubles, six triples, 51 RBI, 27 stolen bases and 50 runs scored in 416 plate appearances over 96 games for the Royals.

Sun Jul 9 202310:19Bobby Witt Jr. Busy During Saturday’s Defeat
Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. went 3-for-5 with a home run, a triple, two RBI, and a stolen base in Saturday's 10-6 loss to the Cleveland Guardians. The former top prospect made life difficult for current top-prospect Gavin Williams in this one with a first-inning single followed by a swipe of second base. Witt then tripled in a run during the fifth frame to get the Royals on the board. The 23-year-old wasn't finished yet, clobbering a homer off Eli Morgan in the seventh. Witt grounded out in his last trip to the dish a double short of the cycle. The former No. 2 overall pick has been just as productive as he was last year, batting .256 with a .738 OPS, 14 round-trippers, 47 RBI, and 27 thefts over 359 at-bats this season.

Thu Jun 29 202321:48Bobby Witt Jr. Continues To Struggle
Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. went 0-for-3 with a strikeout in Thursday's 4-3 extra-innings win over the Cleveland Guardians. Witt Jr. didn't contribute much in the Royals' narrow win over their division rival and he's slashing just .192/.267/.231 over his last seven games (26 at-bats). While June was his best month as far as batting average and on-base percentage are concerned (.274/.333 over 95 at-bats), it was his worth month in terms of power. He's gone deep just twice and owns a lackluster .379 over the month. Overall, the 23-year-old is slashing .241/.286/.415 with 12 home runs, 38 RBI, and 23 stolen bases across 323 at-bats. The game-to-game results can be frustrating for fantasy managers but better days are ahead for Witt Jr.

Witt and the rest of the Kansas City offense had a quiet afternoon in the loss to their AL Central rivals. Wed Jun 14 202300:37Bobby Witt Jr. Hits 11th Homer Tuesday
Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a strikeout in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Reds. The third-inning blast was the 23-year-old's 11th of the season. Witt Jr. has had a somewhat frustrating season from a fantasy perspective, as his 11 HR, 30 RBI, and 21 stolen bases are good but his .237 batting average is not. Overall, he has still provided a good amount of fantasy value for managers, who should continue to rely on him despite the low average.

Sat Jun 10 202320:21Bobby Witt Jr. Reaches Once, Caught Stealing
Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. went 1-for-4 with a single and was caught stealing in Saturday's 6-1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. There wasn't much offense to go around for the Royals as Cole Irvin and the rock-solid Orioles bullpen only allowed one run. Witt Jr. reached once with a single in the top of the sixth inning but was promptly caught stealing for the fifth time this year. Witt Jr. has picked it up at the plate over the last 15 contests, batting .279 with a .443 slugging percentage but his overall batting line still leaves a lot to be desired. For the season, the 22-year-old is slashing .235/.267/.412 with 10 home runs, 27 RBI, and 20 steals over 260 at-bats.

Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. had a huge game Friday, going 4-for-5 with a double, two home runs, five RBI, three runs scored and a swiped bag in a 12-10 Friday loss to the Washington Nationals. After the incredible outing, the 22-year-old Witt Jr. boasts a season slash line of .241/.277/.443, with nine home runs, 24 batted in, and an impressive 15 stolen bases. Witt Jr. should continue to shine in fantasy baseball despite playing for the struggling Royals.

Mon May 22 202319:06Bobby Witt Jr. Dropped To Sixth In Batting Order
Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. has been dropped to sixth in the batting order on Monday against the Detroit Tigers and right-hander Michael Lorenzen. It's the lowest spot in the order that Witt has occupied so far this year, and he's mostly been KC's leadoff hitter. But the 22-year-old has been slumping at the plate of late and is hitting only .226 (44-for-195) with seven doubles, a league-leading four triples, seven home runs, 19 RBI, 13 stolen bases and 29 runs scored in 47 games. He's gone just 8-for-45 (.178) with a homer, four RBI and 12 strikeouts in his last 11 games played. Hopefully the drop in the order will give Witt some better pitches to hit, but his DFS appeal will obviously take a hit. Outfielder Nick Pratto is serving as the team's leadoff hitter on Monday.
