Royals transferred RHP Henry Barrera to the 60-day disabled list.
The 25-year-old right-hander had Tommy John surgery on his pitching elbow in 2009 but came back to post a 2.45 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 9.6 K/9 rate over 22 appearances between High- and Double-A last season. He suffered a bone bruise on his right elbow and a strained flexor tendon earlier this spring and was shut down. The roster move cleared a spot on the 40-man roster that the club used to claim Robert Fish.

Henry Barrera had to leave Friday's intrasquad game after suffering a flexor strain in his pitching elbow.
He'll undergo an MRI to determine the extent of the damage. Barrera had Tommy John surgery on the elbow in 2009 but came back to post a 2.45 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 9.6 K/9 rate over 22 appearances between High- and Double-A last season. The 25-year-old right-hander is slated to start the year in the minors.

Royals activated RHP Henry Barrera from the 60-day disabled list; optioned him to Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
The 24-year-old California native was drafted in the fifth round of the 2004 MLB June Amateur Draft. He has allowed four earned runs in eight innings this season at the Single-A level, but has also fanned better than a batter per inning. If Barrera can stay healthy, the majors might be in his future.
