Wed Feb 2117:11Spencer Howard, Daulton Jefferies Could Be Rotation Options
With San Francisco Giants right-hander Keaton Winn (elbow) dealing with elbow soreness in camp, it's possible that pitchers Spencer Howard or Daulton Jefferies could make the club's Opening Day roster as starting rotation options. Howard, 27, and Jefferies, 28, are both in camp this year as non-roster invites for the Giants. Howard hasn't had success so far in 38 big-league outings (29 starts) over four seasons, posting a rough 7.20 ERA and 1.67 WHIP with 55 walks and 109 K's in 115 innings. Jefferies, meanwhile, is attempting to return in 2024 after his second Tommy John surgery. In his three years with the Oakland Athletics, the right-hander went 2-8 with a 5.75 ERA and 1.35 WHIP with 14 walks and 37 K's in 56 1/3 innings over 14 appearances (10 starts). The Giants could be in trouble early on if they're relying on Howard or Jefferies in their rotation.

Tue Aug 1 202321:56Yankees Get Spencer Howard From Rangers
The Texas Rangers shipped right-hander Spencer Howard to the New York Yankees on Tuesday for cash consideration, according to MLB.com. The former prospect has never figured it out in the big leagues, sporting a career ERA of 7.20 over 115 innings. Across 3 1/3 frames this season, Howard has allowed four earned runs and three walks while striking out two. In the Bronx, the 27-year-old figures to give the club some depth in the rotation and bullpen but will likely remain in the minors for now. Fantasy managers should keep Howard on the waiver wire in all leagues.

Mon Mar 6 202321:10Spencer Howard Dealing With Arm Fatigue
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Spencer Howard (arm) was scheduled to take the ball during Monday's Grapefruit contest against the Colorado Rockies. However, that didn't happen due to the fact Howard was dealing with arm fatigue. The expectation is that Howard should be able to take the mound within the next few days, assuming he doesn't suffer any setbacks. The 26-year-old struggled heavily last season during his 10 appearances with the Rangers. There is no reason to believe Howard will be a fantasy asset this upcoming season.

Tue Jul 5 202218:34Spencer Howard Recalled Ahead Of Tuesday's Start
The Texas Rangers have recalled right-hander Spencer Howard from Triple-A. He will be the team's starting pitcher for Tuesday night's game against the Baltimore Orioles. In a corresponding move, fellow right-hander Josh Sborz was sent to Triple-A. Howard has struggled over his three appearances in the majors so far this year. Over 6.2 innings, he's allowed 10 hits, two walks and nine earn runs while striking out 12. On the bright side, he pitched well at Triple-A in June, posting a 2.53 ERA an a 0.94 WHIP over 32 innings. We'll see if he can carry that success over to the majors.

Thu Apr 21 202221:39Spencer Howard Set To Start Sunday Against Oakland
Texas Rangers pitcher Spencer Howard (finger) is scheduled to start Sunday against the Oakland Athletics. He was initially set to return from the 10-day injured list for Friday's series opener in Oakland but will start Sunday's game with Jon Gray (knee) is expected to be placed on the 10-day injured list. Howard was obliterated in his last start against the Toronto Blue Jays, surrendering six runs on six hits, including four homers, and no walks while striking out five in three innings before being placed on the IL with a blister. The right-hander has upside but is mainly a stash in deep-league formats for now.

Thu Apr 14 202218:00Spencer Howard Placed On IL With Blister
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Spencer Howard (blister) was placed on the 10-day injured list, according to the Dallas Morning News. Howard was scheduled to start on Friday, but GM Chris Young said the team will go with a bullpen game against the Angels. Howard was a former top prospect with the Phillies, but some of the shine has worn off as he was traded to Texas last season as part of the Ian Kennedy trade. Howard was shelled in his first start this season against the Blue Jays, as he allowed six runs in three innings, including allowing four home runs. Howard is not a priority to keep rostered except in the very deepest of dynasty leagues.

Sat Oct 2 202100:32Spencer Howard Gets Lit Up By Cleveland
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Spencer Howard has not had much success with his new organization. On Friday, he went 3 2/3 innings, five hits, five earned runs, three walks, and two strikeouts in the 9-6 loss to the Cleveland Indians. He'll finish the season, 0-3 with a 9.70 ERA in eight starts with Texas. Howard will most likely have to compete for a spot on the roster in spring training. The hope is that Howard can be a long term piece, but he is looking awful right now.

Sat Sep 25 202112:38Spencer Howard Struggles Versus Orioles
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Spencer Howard did not put together his best outing against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday. He went four innings, six hits allowed, four earned runs, and four strikeouts in the 8-5 win. Most of the damage against Howard came off a three-run home run in the second inning. He'll take a horrendous 7.04 ERA and 1.57 WHIP into his next outing versus the Los Angeles Angels. Fantasy managers can continue to avoid Howard.

Tue Sep 14 202110:51Spencer Howard Tagged For Six Runs
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Spencer Howard was expected to go three or four innings in his return from the COVID list. However, he ended up going 1 1/3 innings, six hits allowed, six earned runs, one walk, and two strikeouts in the 15-1 loss to the Houston Astros on Monday. Clearly, Howard wasn't the only pitcher who struggled in this one as it was a frustrating game throughout. Howard does have some decent upside, but the Rangers haven't exactly figured out what they have quite yet. He won't be on the fantasy radar going forward.

Fri Aug 20 202111:51Spencer Howard Lifted After Two Innings
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Spencer Howard is certainly going to be a work in progress for the organization. He turned in a decent outing last time on the mound, but was rocked during Thursday's contest. Howard went two innings, five hits allowed, five earned runs, one walk, and three strikeouts in the 9-8 loss to the Seattle Mariners. The Rangers aren't playing for much so they might as well leave Howard in the rotation and let him get experience. There's certainly upside here with Howard, but he can be ignored in all fantasy formats right now.

Thu Aug 12 202113:41Spencer Howard Tosses Three Scoreless Innings
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Spencer Howard was sharp during Wednesday's game against the Seattle Mariners. He has been held to short outings this season, but it appears to be working with his new organization. On Wednesday, Howard threw three scoreless innings, two hits allowed, and three strikeouts in the 2-1 loss. He'll carry a 5.61 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, and 37 strikeouts over 33 2/3 innings into a rematch with Seattle next week. Howard is likely going to continue pitching these short three or four inning outings. That means, Howard's fantasy value is going to be extremely limited.

Fri Jul 30 202111:39Spencer Howard Available For Trade
Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Spencer Howard is reportedly available in trade discussions. He was viewed as the Phillies top pitching prospect prior to his debut last season. Since then, Howard has battled a few injuries and has struggled heavily at the MLB level. He has posted a 5.71 ERA through 28.3 innings with the Phillies this season. The 25-year-old still has upside, but his struggles are likely going to decrease his value, assuming the Phillies want to move him.
