Tue Sep 12 202319:29Diamondbacks Recall Jake McCarthy
The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled outfielder Jake McCarthy from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday. McCarthy isn't in the starting lineup on Tuesday night against the New York Mets, but he'll provide the Snakes with some extra outfield depth down the stretch as they look to hang onto the final wild-card spot in the National League. The 26-year-old left-handed hitter and thrower struggled in his time with Arizona over 86 games before being sent down, hitting .245/.325/.331 with only two home runs, 14 RBI, 26 stolen bases and 33 runs scored in 291 plate appearances. However, he was tearing the cover off the ball at Reno in 45 games and could provide fantasy managers with some stolen bases in deeper leagues to close out the 2023 season.

Mon Aug 14 202320:53Diamondbacks Option Jake McCarthy To Triple-A
The Arizona Diamondbacks optioned outfielder Jake McCarthy to Triple-A Reno on Monday and recalled outfielder Kyle Lewis from the minors in a corresponding move. Lewis is serving as the designated hitter for Arizona and is batting fifth in the lineup on Monday against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. The 26-year-old McCarthy has a career-high 26 stolen bases in 257 at-bats in his third major-league season, but he's struggled in the other aspects of his game and will go down to the farm for the second time this year before likely returning when rosters expand in September. McCarthy is slashing .245/.325/.331 with only two homers, 14 RBI and 33 runs scored. He had picked up just five hits in 26 at-bats (.192) to begin the month of August in 11 games (eight starts).

Wed Aug 9 202317:26Jake McCarthy Heads To Bench Against Dodgers
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Jake McCarthy will retreat to the bench on Wednesday in the series finale against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers. In his absence, Alek Thomas will start in center field and will hit seventh in the batting order against Dodgers right-hander Bobby Miller. McCarthy is valuable in mixed fantasy leagues this year for really only his speed, as he has posted a career-high 26 stolen bases in 29 attempts in his third major-league season. Otherwise, he's been very mediocre, batting .255 (63-for-247) with two home runs, six doubles, five triples, 14 RBI and 33 runs scored in 279 plate appearances and 82 games played. In 14 games (11 starts) since July 23, McCarthy has gone 11-for-40 (.275) with no homers, a double, one RBI, four steals and two runs scored for the Snakes.

Thu Jul 6 202318:32Jake McCarthy Not In Thursday’s Lineup
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Jake McCarthy is out of Thursday's lineup versus the New York Mets. Dominic Fletcher takes over in right field and bats seventh vs. Carlos Carrasco for this one. The 25-year-old McCarthy is hitting .316 (36-for-114) since coming back up to the majors on May 26 from a month-long retreat to the farm. However, McCarthy hasn't shown a ton of power with just one home run over this time. Even so, the speedy McCarthy has run wild for 16 stolen bases during this period and is also tied for the NL-lead in triples (5) overall.

Tue Jun 13 202301:57Jake McCarthy Triples As Part Of Three-Hit Attack
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Jake McCarthy went 3-for-4 with a triple and one run scored in a 9-8 shootout win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday. The 25-year-old posted his first three-hit pursuit of the season in this one. McCarthy has been a colossal fantasy disappointment after garnering a ton of hype this spring which pushed his ADP up near Round 9 of preseason drafts. The former first-round pick is running wild for 12 stolen bases over 109 at-bats this year, but he'll need to further pick up his unreliable .211/.287/.294 triple-slash line to become a must-add in all leagues. McCarthy has hit better since his late-May call-up with a .304 AVG over 46 at-bats since May 26, so he's making some strides.

Fri May 26 202318:35Jake McCarthy Officially Recalled, Starting On Friday
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Jake McCarthy has been officially recalled from Triple-A Reno on Friday. The left-handed slugger struggled during his 17-game stint on the MLB roster earlier in the season. Since then, McCarthy is slashing .333/.419/.533 with four homers and four stolen bases in 22 games in the minors. The organization is hopeful that he can carry over that momentum into the big leagues. He'll bat eighth and cover right field versus left-hander Chris Sale on Friday. Fantasy managers might want to use a wait-and-see approach here.

Thu May 25 202319:54Jake McCarthy Coming Back Up, Dominic Fletcher Sent Down
The Arizona Diamondbacks are planning to recall outfielder Jake McCarthy from Triple-A Reno after a recent hot stretch at the plate on the farm, according to a source. To make room, the team optioned outfield prospect Dominic Fletcher To Reno. McCarthy hit just .143 (9-for-63) with one long ball in 22 games before being sent down in April. In his last eight games with Reno, he's going 17-for-37 (.460) with two doubles and two homers. Fletcher, the team's No. 15 prospect per MLB Pipeline, provided an early boost after initially being called up, but he's gone 6-for-36 (.167) with 10 K's on the team's recent road trip. The 25-year-old McCarthy is the favorite to start in center once again and will be a popular waiver-wire pickup in deep-mixed leagues if he's still available.

Tue Apr 25 202312:23Diamondbacks Send Jake McCarthy To Triple-A
The Arizona Diamondbacks optioned slumping outfielder Jake McCarthy to Triple-A Reno on Tuesday and recalled third baseman Emmanuel Rivera from the minors in a corresponding move. McCarthy hit .283/.342/.427 with eight home runs, 43 RBI, 23 stolen bases and 53 runs scored in 99 games for the D-backs in 2022, but he had gone just 9-for-63 (.143) with a double, triple, home run, three RBI, two stolen bases and 12 strikeouts in 70 plate appearances over his first 22 games this year. The 25-year-old could be back with the Snakes eventually, but he'll need to work out the kinks with his swing on the farm first. With McCarthy gone for the time being, Pavin Smith will most likely benefit with extra playing time.

Mon Apr 24 202319:07Jake McCarthy Demoted To Ninth In Lineup
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Jake McCarthy has been moved down to the nine-hole in the club's lineup for Monday's contest with Kansas City Royals right-hander Brad Keller. It's just the fourth time this season McCarthy has started in the nine-spot and the first since April 15. The youngster is off to a disappointing start to his 2023 season as he's hitting just .150 with one homer, two steals, and a .477 OPS across 66 trips to the plate. McCarthy broke out of a major slump on Sunday, however, as he clubbed his first homer of the season, recording his first hit since way back on April 11 in the process. McCarthy also hasn't stolen a base since April 4 as he looks to build on a positive outing from Sunday afternoon.

Mon Apr 3 202309:16Jake McCarthy Batting In Bottom Half Of The Lineup
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Jake McCarthy notched his first hit of the season during Sunday's 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. He also drove in a run and stole a base in the contest. Over the first four games of the year, McCarthy hasn't hit higher than sixth in the lineup and batted ninth for the first game of 2023 with left-hander Julio Urias on the bump. If the first few games are any indication, it seems that manager Torey Lovullo prefers the sophomore near the bottom, even after he slashed .283/.342/.427 with eight home runs and 23 steals across 99 games in 2022. Fantasy owners will still reap the benefits of McCarthy's speed but may see fewer counting stats as a result.

Mon Sep 26 202218:34Alek Thomas Sent To Triple-A, Jake McCarthy Reinstated
The Arizona Diamondbacks optioned rookie outfielder Alek Thomas to Triple-A Reno after Sunday's game and reinstated outfielder Jake McCarthy from the bereavement list in a corresponding move. In his first 113 big-league games, Thomas has struggled with the lumber, hitting .231/.275/.344 with eight home runs, 39 RBI, 45 runs scored, four stolen bases and 74 strikeouts in 381 at-bats. He's been especially bad this month, going 7-for-55 (.127) with no homers, four RBI and nine strikeouts in 18 games. McCarthy was unavailable last weekend but should return to the starting lineup for the start of a series on Tuesday against the Houston Astros. The 25-year-old left-handed hitter has hit a solid .288/.352/.446 with eight homers, 41 RBI, 49 runs and 19 stolen bases in 91 games in his second MLB season.

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Jake McCarthy is back in the starting lineup after his one game absence. The 25-year-old has been on fire at the plate since joining the D-Backs roster. He's hitting .303/.362/.471 with eight homers, 41 RBI, and 18 stolen bases in 84 games. He'll bat third and play left field against right-hander Joe Musgrove on Saturday. Fantasy managers should make sure McCarthy is back in their lineups for this game.

Sun Aug 14 202221:02Jake McCarthy Steals Two Bases Sunday
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Jake McCarthy stole two bases on Sunday, giving him nine on the season in 10 attempts. He went 1-for-3 at the plate with a double, a run scored, and an RBI. While McCarthy does not offer incredible upside in any other category, eight of his steals have come in his last 30 games, making him a potentially potent speed option down the stretch of the fantasy season. He has just three long balls this year, but if he can add any, that would make him very worthwhile as an add.

Sun Jul 31 202211:27Jake McCarthy To See Most Of Playing Time In Left Field
With outfielder David Peralta being dealt to the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday, Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Jake McCarthy will get the "lion's share" of the available playing time in left field, according to general manager Mike Hazen. McCarthy has been very productive since returning from Triple-A Reno earlier in the month, going 11-for-35 (.314) with five doubles, three walks and two steals. The 25-year-old should at least be in the starting lineup against right-handed pitchers on a regular basis for the Snakes. In 118 at-bats overall in 2022, he's hitting .263/.315/.432 with three home runs, 12 RBI, 24 runs scored and four stolen bases, making him certainly worth a pickup in deeper leagues.
