Sun Apr 2819:07Mark Vientos Blasts Walkoff Homer
New York Mets third baseman Mark Vientos came up clutch for the team during Sunday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals. He entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning and singled during that plate appearance. Vientos remained in the game and got another at-bat versus left-hander Matthew Liberatore in the 11th inning. He blasted a two-run home run off Liberatore to help the Mets get the 4-2 win. The 24-year-old has a chance to remain with the team if he continues to hit like this. Fantasy managers should use a wait-and-see approach for Vientos.

Sun Mar 2412:20Mets Option Mark Vientos
The New York Mets optioned designated hitter Mark Vientos to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday and also told first baseman Ji Man Choi that he won't be on the team's Opening Day roster. It's a mild surprise after it was announced on Saturday that the newly signed J.D. Martinez would be starting the year on the farm to get his bat up to speed after just signing with the Mets several days ago. It pretty much kills any fantasy value the 24-year-old Vientos might have had in NL-only leagues to start the year. While Vientos won't begin the year in the big leagues, he'll almost certainly be up with the Mets at some point in 2024 once injuries hit. He was destroying Triple-A pitching in 2023 to earn a big-league call-up, but he hit just .211 (46-for-218) with nine homers and 22 RBI for the Mets in 65 games.

Mon Mar 1810:46Mark Vientos Blast Fourth Homer
New York Mets corner infielder Mark Vientos went 2-for-4 with two runs and a three-run homer in Sunday's Grapefruit League matchup versus the Miami Marlins. Vientos now has four homers this spring with six RBI, but is hitting just .200 in 45 at-bats. The 24-year-old won't be beating out Pete Alonso for the first base gig, but his power may be enough to have him platoon with Brett Baty at third base and have regular at-bats as a designated hitter. The power has always been there for Vientos and he hit nine homers with 22 RBI in 218 big-league at-bats in 2023, but his .211 batting average was a big weakness. He is only an option in the deepest of leagues for now.

Tue Feb 1300:49Mark Vientos Could Be Competing For Time At Designated Hitter
New York Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said Monday that third baseman/designated hitter Mark Vientos is currently in the competition for time at designated hitter this season. DJ Stewart was also listed as an in-house option for routine time at the position, although Stearns mentioned that it is not out of the question for the Mets to fill the position through an addition. The 24-year-old had a lackluster rookie season, slashing .211/.253/.367 with nine home runs and 22 RBI in 233 plate appearances while dealing with left wrist tendonitis. While Vientos can play third base, it sounds as though he will need to earn himself playing time with his bat. He did carry some prospect pedigree, so fantasy managers may want to keep an eye on his performance throughout spring.

Sun Sep 3 202310:40Mark Vientos Dealing With Foot Soreness After Exit
New York Mets infielder/designated hitter Mark Vientos (foot) left Saturday's game versus the Seattle Mariners with right foot soreness. The 23-year-old was replaced by Jonathan Arauz in the eighth inning following his seventh-inning walk. Vientos went 2-for-3 with a home run before heading out, and he just returned from left wrist tendinitis earlier this week. If the rookie's foot soreness, which has lingered since his most recent injured list stint, keeps him out of action, expect the recently-recalled Brett Baty to handle an everyday role at third base. Vientos is hitting just .209 with a .586 OPS, four homers, and 12 RBI through 134 at-bats.

Sat Aug 26 202300:19Mark Vientos Begins Rehab Assignment On Friday
New York Mets infielder Mark Vientos (wrist) started a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse on Friday. The 23-year-old is completely healed from the injection he received when he originally went on the 10-day injured list last Thursday. Therefore, Vientos appears to be just a few days out from a return to the big-league lineup and is eligible to be activated as early as Saturday. With Luis Guillorme (calf) still on the IL and Brett Baty in the minors, Vientos should see plenty of playing time at third base as well as designated hitter in the season's late stages. The rookie has endured a tough go of it, though, hitting a trifling .195 (23-for-118) with a .518 OPS, two home runs, five doubles, and 10 RBI this season.

Thu Aug 17 202318:13Mets Send Mark Vientos To Injured List
The New York Mets have placed infielder/designated hitter Mark Vientos (wrist) on the 10-day injured list with left wrist tendinitis. The 23-year-old was out of Wednesday's lineup after an MRI revealed the injury on Tuesday. Vientos' absence leaves the Mets' third-base depth chart razor-thin with Luis Guillorme (calf) also out of action. Stopgap solutions Jonathan Arauz and Danny Mendick figure to spend most of the time at the hot corner in Vientos' stead, but perhaps New York considers recalling Brett Baty from the minors at this stage. Vientos has been unable to impress in 2023, hitting a paltry .195 with two home runs, five doubles, and 10 RBI across 118 at-bats.

Wed Aug 16 202312:27Mark Vientos Day-To-Day With Wrist Inflammation
New York Mets infielder/designated hitter Mark Vientos (wrist) had an MRI exam on his left wrist and was diagnosed with inflammation. He's considered day-to-day and is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates. Vientos was removed from the game on Tuesday due to his injured wrist. It remains to be seen if the 23-year-old will be available for the start of a four-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday. Daniel Vogelbach is serving as the DH on Wednesday and is hitting fifth against Pirates right-hander Johan Oviedo. In 37 games, Vientos is hitting only .195/.230/.288 with two homers, 10 RBI and five runs scored in 126 plate appearances.

Thu Jul 20 202316:51Mets Calling Up Mark Vientos
The New York Mets are calling up rookie designated hitter Mark Vientos from Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday to replace outfielder Starling Marte, who was put on the 10-day injured list due to migraines, according to a source. The 23-year-old Vientos had just eight hits in 45 at-bats (.178) with a homer and five RBI for the Mets in 16 games early this year. He's really struggled in 32 games at the major-league level the last two years, sporting a .173/.244/.259 slash line with two long balls, a double, eight RBI and five runs scored in 90 plate appearances. However, he was hitting .307 with a 1.000 OPS, 16 home runs and 50 RBI in 60 games for Syracuse this year.

Sun Jun 18 202312:30Mark Vientos Sent To Triple-A
The New York Mets optioned infielder Mark Vientos to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday to make room for first baseman Pete Alonso (wrist), who was activated from the 10-day injured list. Vientos didn't fare well at the plate in 16 games for the Mets before being sent down, as he had gone just 8-for-45 (.178) with one home run, five RBI, three walks and 14 strikeouts in 49 trips to the late. In 32 games in the big leagues so far over the last two years, Vientos is hitting .173 (14-for-81) with two homers, eight RBI and 26 strikeouts in 90 plate appearances. The 23-year-old will continue to work on his craft in the minors, where he previously had a 1.104 OPS at Syracuse before the Mets called him up this year.

Fri Jun 2 202316:05Mark Vientos Serving As DH Against Blue Jays
New York Mets third baseman Mark Vientos is serving as the club's designated hitter and is batting seventh on Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays and right-hander Chris Bassitt. Vientos will be playing in just his 27th major-league game after debuting for the Mets in 2022. In 10 games so far in 2023, Vientos has gone just 5-for-26 (.192) with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored in 28 plate appearances. The 23-year-old has mostly been seeing at-bats against left-handed pitching this year, but New York is going to give him a try against a right-hander on Friday. Against right-handers in 2023, Vientos has just 15 at-bats and has three hits (one homer) and three RBI.

Thu May 18 202312:18Francisco Alvarez, Mark Vientos Resting Thursday
New York Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez and rookie third baseman Mark Vientos are both out of the starting lineup on Thursday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Alvarez is a bit dinged up and will receive a day off behind the plate after he hit a big three-run home run in Wednesday's 10-inning victory. The 21-year-old backstop has now played in 26 games in 2023 and is hitting .218 (17-for-78) with four doubles, four home runs and nine RBI. The 23-year-old Vientos went 1-for-4 with his first big-league home run in his MLB debut on Wednesday. Michael Perez is doing the catching for New York on Thursday and is in the nine-hole, while Brett Baty is at third base and is batting fifth against Rays right-handed rookie Taj Bradley.

Wed May 17 202309:01Mets Promote Mark Vientos
New York Mets corner infield prospect Mark Vientos has been recalled by team on Wednesday. Vientos, 23, has torn the cover off the ball for Triple-A Syracuse with a .333 batting average to go along with 13 homers and 37 RBI. It was only a matter of time before forcing his way onto the roster, but the struggling Mets have finally gave in. Vientos historically has struggled with swing and misses in his career, but has made a drastic improvement this season and improved his overall strikeout rate significantly. The right-handed power hitter got a cup of coffee with the Mets last season and hit .167 with one home run and three RBI over 36 at-bats. Pete Alonso has first base covered, but Vientos is a natural third baseman and could platoon with fellow rookie Brett Baty and also see time as a designated hitter or even in the outfield. The Mets didn't bring him up to ride the bench and he should see plenty of at-bats in his future. Due to his immense power, he is worthy of a speculative add in all formats.

Sun May 14 202315:46Mark Vientos Hits Home Run No. 12
New York Mets third base prospect Mark Vientos hit his 12th home run of the 2023 Triple-A season in a game for Triple-A Syracuse. The 23-year-old is having a fantastic season, slashing .333/.420/.667 with 24 runs, 33 RBI, and a 12.1% walk rate in 36 games. The Florida native debuted at the major-league level last season, slashing .167/.268/.278 with a home run, three RBI, and three runs. Vientos should get the call-up soon to add some offensive firepower to a struggling Mets lineup that is 18th in OPS and 23rd in SLG. His poor defense limits the right-handed hitter to a platoon role with leftie DH Daniel Vogelbach, but he's still worth stashing in deeper leagues for his elite power.

Sat Sep 10 202218:43Mark Vientos Called Up By Mets
New York Mets corner infield prospect Mark Vientos was called up to the big leagues on Saturday. The Mets' number seven ranked prospect (according to MLB Pipeline) enjoyed a solid season with Triple-A Syracuse, slashing .280/.358/.519 with 24 homers in 427 plate appearances. He does strike out a fair amount, and he won't contribute any steals, but he is certainly a hitter to watch for the rest of the season. He shouldn't be added yet outside of very deep leagues, especially considering he might not play every day.

Thu Jul 28 202210:10Mark Vientos Hits 18th Homer For Triple-A Syracuse
New York Mets corner infield prospect Mark Vientos went 2-for-4 with a walk, three RBI and a two-run homer for Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday. Vientos has been putting together a solid season for Syracuse and is hitting .264 with 18 homers and 51 RBI. With the Mets going for a championship and Vientos already on the 40-man roster, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him get a chance this season. There is also the possibility that he could be dealt with the trade deadline approaching. If Vientos were to be given a chance at everyday at-bats this season, he would be worth giving a chance to, but it's more likely than not that he holds his most value in dynasty leagues at the present moment.

Sat May 28 202208:20Mark Vientos Blasts Seventh Homer On Friday
New York Mets corner infield/outfield prospect Mark Vientos went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer on Friday for Triple-A Syracuse. After a slow start to the season, Vientos has been red hot in May. On the season, Vientos has seven homers, 20 RBI, and a .240/.321/.488 slash line. In May, Vientos has belted six of his seven homers and slashed .317/.388/.667 over 60 at-bats. Vientos is the Mets' fourth-ranked prospect per MLB Pipeline and is coming off a solid 2021 campaign. He is on the Mets' 40-man roster and has a legitimate shot at joining the team later this season if he continues to produce at Triple-A. This is particularly true if the Mets deal J.D. Davis and/or Dominic Smith for pitching ahead of the July trade deadline. Vientos should be rostered in all dynasty formats and redraft managers should keep an eye on him as the season progresses.

Fri May 13 202208:40Mark Vientos Slugs Fifth Homer For Triple-A Syracuse
New York Mets corner infield/outfield prospect Mark Vientos went 1-for-4 with a solo home run on Thursday for Triple-A Syracuse. With the home run, he now has five on the season to go along with 15 RBI and a .210 batting average. Vientos has shown an increase in power as he has matured and finished 2021 with 25 home runs and 83 RBI to go along with a steady .281 batting average between Double-A and Triple-A. The 22-year-old has shown plenty of power and an ability to be a solid contributor at the dish, but he has struggled defensively as a corner infielder and outfielder. With the designated hitter now universal, that may be his best path to the big leagues. Added to the 40-man roster this past offseason, there is a true chance that Vientos could get the call at some point in 2022. For now, Vientos remains a better fit in dynasty leagues. If he were to get the call in 2022 and given at-bats, he would be worth a look in redraft leagues due to his power.
