Sat Apr 1319:47MacKenzie Gore Fans Eleven On Saturday
Washington Nationals starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore had a superb outing on Saturday against the Oakland A's, striking out 11 batters without giving up a run in five innings. Gore was credited with his second win of the season as well as the Nationals won 3-1. The lefty's dominant performance helped decrease his ERA to 2.81 after three starts. Gore's increase in strikeouts were a great sight to see for fantasy managers who have been anxious for the lefty to recapture the hype that was behind him when he was coming up with the San Diego Padres. Though his start to the season has been promising, expectations may need to be tempered during his next start on Friday when the Houston Astros play in Washington DC.

Wed Mar 2014:20Mackenzie Gore Endures Interesting Outing Sunday
Washington Nationals pitcher MacKenzie Gore endured a rather interesting outing on Sunday against the New York Mets. The left-hander worked 4 2/3 innings and was roughed up for eight earned runs on nine hits, including one homer, and walked two. At the same time, he racked up a whopping 10 strikeouts to give him 19 punchouts across 15 1/3 innings this spring, albeit alongside a 5.87 ERA. He had largely pitched well across his first three Grapefruit League outings but the odd outing on Sunday skyrocketed his spring ERA. The former Padres top prospect worked to a 4.42 ERA and a solid 16.2% K-BB% across 27 starts with the Nationals last season before a finger injury ended his campaign. ATC projects similar numbers for him this time around, making Gore a middling fantasy asset, albeit with solid strikeout numbers.

Wed Sep 20 202312:42MacKenzie Gore's Season Is Over
Washington Nationals manager Dave Martinez confirmed that left-hander MacKenzie Gore's (finger) season is over. The team was close to shutting him down innings-wise anyway, but his blister was the deciding factor. The Nationals put Gore on the 15-day injured list last Saturday due to the blister on one of his left fingers, and now he's officially done for the rest of the year. The 24-year-old southpaw had a decent first full season in the big leagues in 2023 in his first year in D.C., going 7-10 with a 4.42 ERA (4.89 FIP), 1.40 WHIP, 57 walks and 151 strikeouts in 136 1/3 innings over 27 starts for the Nats. Gore will look to build on that in his third major-league season in 2024.

Sun Sep 10 202310:45Nationals Place MacKenzie Gore On Injured List Saturday
The Washington Nationals put starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore (finger) on the 15-day injured list as a result of left finger blisters. The 24-year-old coughed up four runs (three homers) with two walks across four innings despite nine days of rest in his time out. Gore will now be out for at least two weeks, putting the remainder of his 2023 season in limbo. The former No. 3 overall pick presented promising results in the first half of the last two campaigns, but faltered in the second part once again. Gore's erratic ways saw him log a 5.10 ERA in his latest 15 starts (72.1 innings) since June 10. Redraft fantasy managers can likely pull the plug in favor of a better stash at this stage.

Thu Aug 31 202314:52Nationals Put MacKenzie Gore On Bereavement List
The Washington Nationals placed left-hander MacKenzie Gore on the bereavement list on Thursday and recalled pitcher Joe La Sorsa from Triple-A Rochester in a corresponding move. Gore will be away from the Nationals for at least their next three games heading into the weekend. In his first year in D.C. and just his second in the big leagues, the 24-year-old southpaw has gone 7-10 with a 4.28 ERA (4.67 FIP), 1.38 WHIP, 55 walks and 147 strikeouts in 132 1/3 innings over 26 starts. Although he's been a bit fortunate in eight starts since the All-Star break, Gore has posted a 4.01 ERA (5.61 FIP), 16 walks and 39 strikeouts in 42 2/3 innings since July 17.

Mon Aug 21 202312:33MacKenzie Gore To Start Wednesday Against Yankees
Washington Nationals left-hander MacKenzie Gore (finger) is scheduled to start on Wednesday against the New York Yankees in the Bronx. Gore has been dealing with a nail issue and a blister on his left index finger, but apparently it won't be enough to keep him out this week. The 24-year-old's finger issue was a problem for him in his last outing on Aug. 16 against the Boston Red Sox, although he still tossed 6 1/3 scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. He's gone 6-9 in his first year with the Nats with a 4.38 ERA (4.48 FIP), 1.38 WHIP, 52 walks and 141 strikeouts in 123 1/3 innings over his 24 starts. In six starts since the All-Star break, Gore has allowed 16 earned runs on 26 hits (seven homers) while walking 13 and fanning 33 in 33 2/3 innings. He'll get a Yankees team on the ropes this week.

Wed Aug 16 202321:12MacKenzie Gore Leaves Early On Wednesday
Washington Nationals starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore (undisclosed) was forced to exit early during Wednesday's game against the Boston Red Sox. This is a shame considering the southpaw was pitching extremely well before he exited the game. Gore only allowed three baserunners over 6 1/3 shutout innings with seven strikeouts. It's uncertain what is wrong with Gore as he looked to be in obvious pain after throwing a pitch. There should be an update on his status shortly.

Sat Jul 1 202322:06MacKenzie Gore Dealing With A Blister
Washington Nationals right-hander MacKenzie Gore (finger) exited Saturday's start against the Philadelphia Phillies with a blister on his left middle finger. He allowed seven runs on six hits and three walks while striking out three across 2 2/3 innings before exiting. The 24-year-old is considered day-to-day and is questionable for his next scheduled start on Thursday against the Reds. He owns a 4.48 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, and a 107: 39 K: BB across 88 1/3 innings in 2023. Gore will undergo further evaluation, and it's unclear if he will make his next start before the All-Star Break.

Mon Jun 26 202309:51MacKenzie Gore Piles Up Nine Strikeouts
Washington Nationals starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore was on his game versus the San Diego Padres on Sunday. The left-hander struck out nine batters, while only allowing a pair of walks in five innings of work. Gore gave up five hits in this game, but the only one that hurt was an RBI single by Fernando Tatis Jr. in the fifth inning. The 24-year-old was sharp and helped earn the victory over his former club on Sunday. He holds a 3.89 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and a 104/36 K/BB ratio across 85 2/3 innings this season. His next start will come against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday.

Mon May 29 202303:29MacKenzie Gore Lasts Seven Frames, Fans Career-High 11
Washington Nationals starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore fired seven innings against the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. He punched out a career-high 11 batters and allowed a single run for a no-decision as the Nats fell 3-2. The 24-year-old has been a model of consistency in 2023, preserving his ERA from enlarging beyond 3.69 at any point across his 11 starts. Gore's 1.41 WHIP is a figure fantasy managers should watch going forward, but the former third-overall pick has an overpowering 11.5 K/9 to help cover it up. He's coming along nicely after a dreadful end to his time with the San Diego Padres last summer. Gore's 3.57 ERA and overall sturdiness will be challenged in a stiff draw against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday.

Wed Apr 26 202323:54MacKenzie Gore Shines In Wednesday's Start
Washington Nationals southpaw MacKenzie Gore was on full display after tossing six innings of one-run ball in the Nationals' 4-1 win over the New York Mets. Gore struck out a career-high 10 batters while walking just two batters through 101 pitches. The 24-year-old is now 3-1 on the season with a 3.00 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, along with 30 strikeouts. After being hauled in the blockbuster deal that sent Juan Soto to the San Diego Padres, the swap to Washington may have been the right move. Since joining the Nats, Gore has displayed some impressive resilience and efficiency, after a middling 2022 rookie season in San Diego. The North Carolina native currently displays a 29.1% strikeout rate with a 16.3% walk rate across 27 innings. If Gore can sustain such a high level of play, he is a viable option in the vast majority of leagues.

Mon Apr 10 202309:16MacKenzie Gore Off To A Solid Start In 2023
Washington Nationals left-hander MacKenzie Gore owns a (2-0) record with a 2.38 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and a 12:6 K: BB ratio across 11 1/3 innings in 2023. The 24-year-old was once considered one of the best pitching prospects in baseball. According to Baseball Savant, his 26.7 K% is in the 67th percentile, while his 26.7 BB% is in the 26th percentile. The southpaw will look to continue his solid start in 2023 in Wednesday's road matchup against the Los Angeles Angels. Gore is set to face Angels left-hander Tucker Davidson. The Angels' offense is heating up and has scored 20 runs in their last two games. Despite the road matchup, Gore has pitched well enough for fantasy managers to use as a streamer on Wednesday and Week 3.

Thu Feb 23 202315:41MacKenzie Gore Starting Grapefruit League Opener
Washington Nationals left-hander MacKenzie Gore will start the team's Grapefruit League opener on Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals. Gore was acquired from the San Diego Padres last August as part of the blockbuster deal that sent Juan Soto to the west coast. The 23-year-old southpaw didn't pitch at all for the Nationals after the trade in 2022 due to an elbow injury, but he's healthy now and will kick off the Grapefruit League schedule this weekend. Gore never quite panned out as one of the Padres' top prospects, but he still has the upside to break out as a post-hype prospect in a full-time role with the Nationals in 2023. He is still developing his secondary pitches, though, so Gore is much more attractive in dynasty/keeper leagues still.

Fri Sep 30 202211:37Mackenzie Gore Done For The Season
Washington Nationals starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore (elbow) has officially been shut down for the rest of the regular season. The hope was that the left-hander would be able to make one start before the end of the year. He threw 72 pitches during a rehab start on Monday, but ultimately the team doesn't want to risk it. They'd rather have Gore rest and recover so he can be ready for the beginning of next season. Gore was acquired in the trade that sent Juan Soto to the San Diego Padres. The expectation is that Gore will be a significant piece of the Nationals rotation going forward.

Tue Sep 27 202218:21MacKenzie Gore On Track To Make One Start For Nats
Washington Nationals rookie left-hander MacKenzie Gore (elbow) is back at Nationals Park on Tuesday after his minor league rehab start for Triple-A Rochester on Monday night. Gore felt really good about his first three innings, but he fatigued in the fourth frame and allowed six runs on three homers in all. He is going to throw a long bullpen session this week, and it sounds like the plan is still for him to make one start for the Nationals before the end of the regular season. If the 23-year-old southpaw makes his debut with Washington, it will likely come this weekend against the Philadelphia Phillies, which would make him a pretty risky streaming option for fantasy managers still playing for a championship.

Tue Sep 27 202211:39MacKenzie Gore Hit Hard In Latest Rehab Start
Washington Nationals rookie left-hander MacKenzie Gore (elbow) was hit hard in his latest minor league rehab start for Triple-A Rochester on Monday night, allowing six earned runs on six hits (three home runs surrendered) while walking one and striking out three in only 3 2/3 innings pitched. While the results weren't encouraging, Gore was able to throw 72 pitches in what is expected to be his final minor league tune-up before making his debut for the Nationals to close out the season. The 23-year-old southpaw is lined up to make a start this weekend against the Philadelphia Phillies, where he'll be a shaky fantasy streamer. In his first 16 big-league outings (13 starts) for the San Diego Padres before being traded at the deadline, Gore had a 4.50 ERA (4.12 FIP), a 1.47 WHIP and a 72:37 K:BB in 70 innings pitched.

Tue Sep 20 202211:11MacKenzie Gore To Throw Bullpen Tuesday
Washington Nationals rookie left-hander MacKenzie Gore (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session ahead of Tuesday's game against the Atlanta Braves before heading back to Triple-A Rochester for another minor league rehab start. "He's scheduled to go back and have another rehab start. So, we're going to try to push him for maybe 60-65 pitches and get him those four ups," skipper Dave Martinez said. Gore's next rehab start for Rochester will come on Friday after he tossed 36 pitches in his first rehab start last Sunday. Barring a setback, the Nationals expect the 23-year-old southpaw to make his Nationals debut before the end of the season. In his first 16 major-league outings (13 starts) for the Padres before being traded, Gore was 4-4 with a 4.50 ERA (4.11 FIP), a 1.47 WHIP, 72 K's and 37 walks in 70 innings.

Sat Sep 17 202211:11MacKenzie Gore Strikes Out Two In Rehab Outing
Washington Nationals rookie left-hander MacKenzie Gore (elbow) allowed no runs on four hits while walking two and striking out two in 2 2/3 innings in his latest minor league rehab start for Triple-A Rochester on Friday night. Gore made his first rehab start last Sunday and is getting closer to making his debut for Washington after being acquired from the San Diego Padres at the trade deadline in the deal that sent Juan Soto and Josh Bell to San Diego. The 23-year-old southpaw made his major-league debut with the Padres earlier this year and went 4-4 with a 4.50 ERA (4.11 FIP), a 1.47 WHIP, 72 K's and 37 walks in 70 innings over 16 outings (13 starts). Barring a setback on his rehab assignment, he should join the Nats' rotation to close out the year.

Mon Sep 12 202218:40MacKenzie Gore Goes 1 2/3 Innings In Rehab Start
Washington Nationals rookie left-hander MacKenzie Gore (elbow) made his first minor league rehab start for Triple-A Rochester on Sunday and tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits while striking out none and walking none. It was Gore's first game since late July while with the San Diego Padres. The 23-year-old southpaw made his first 16 big-league appearances (13 starts) for the Friars this year, posting a 4.50 ERA (4.12 FIP), a 1.47 WHIP, 72 strikeouts and 37 walks in 70 innings pitched. Now with a new organization, the post-hype prospect should have a chance to debut for the Nats sometime later this month to close out the 2022 regular season. But first he'll need to get his arm built up in the minor leagues.

Fri Sep 9 202218:55MacKenzie Gore Throws Bullpen, Set For Rehab Assignment
Washington Nationals left-handed pitcher MacKenzie Gore (elbow) threw a bullpen session on Friday and could join Triple-A Rochester for a rehab start on Sunday. Gore was initially placed on the injured list on July 26 after experiencing left elbow inflammation, but he has begun a throwing program and is ready to progress into rehab starts provided everything feels right. The former top prospect has had an up-and-down 2022, but he has certainly shown signs that he could end up being the type of high-end talent that he was expected to be. Overall, Gore has a 4.50 ERA (4.11 FIP) and 1.47 WHIP while tallying 72 strikeouts in 70 innings pitched. He could be a worthy streamer down the stretch if his matchups are solid.
