Wed Feb 1414:28Scott Effross Won't Be Available Until The Summer
New York Yankees reliever Scott Effross underwent back surgery and will not be ready to return until sometime in the summer, according to manager Aaron Boone. The right-hander missed the entire 2023 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery and will miss a hefty chunk of the 2024 campaign, as well. Most recently, the 30-year-old tossed a healthy 2.54 ERA across 60 outings with the Cubs and Yankees in the 2022 season. The late-blooming reliever has pitched in just two MLB seasons as he worked to a 3.68 ERA across 14 appearances with the Cubs in the 2021 campaign. Add it up and Effross sports a 2.78 ERA across 74 MLB appearances and could be a valued member for the Yankees down the stretch of the 2024 regular season.

Thu Mar 9 202314:17Scott Effross Resumes Throwing Program
New York Yankees relief pitcher Scott Effross (elbow), who had Tommy John surgery last October, started a throwing program on Monday. He's still in the early going of his rehab from elbow reconstruction. There's a chance that the 29-year-old right-hander could make it back for the Yankees at the tail end of the 2023 season, but it's probably unlikely. He spent his second MLB season in 2022 with the Yankees and Chicago Cubs, posting a 2.54 ERA (2.46 FIP), 1.06 WHIP, his first four career saves and 62 strikeouts in 56 2/3 innings over 60 appearances (one start). What Effross lacks in velocity, he makes up with movement on his pitches.

Tue Oct 11 202211:19Scott Effross Needs Tommy John Surgery
New York Yankees relief pitcher Scott Effross (elbow) was left off the roster for the American League Division Series against the Cleveland Guardians this week because he had an elbow issue. It's been determined that he will need to undergo Tommy John surgery. It's a major loss for the Yankees bullpen, especially since they'll also be without Aroldis Chapman due to disciplinary reasons. Effross will likely miss all of next season as well. The 28-year-old right-hander was a linchpin of the Yankees bullpen during the regular season. He had a 2.13 ERA (3.43 FIP), a 1.03 WHIP, three saves and 12 strikeouts in 12 2/3 innings for the Yankees this year after being acquired from the Chicago Cubs.

Tue Oct 4 202200:46Scott Effross Earns Fourth Save Of Season Monday
New York Yankees relief pitcher Scott Effross notched his fourth save of the season in Monday's 3-1 win over the Rangers. Effross delivered a scoreless, 1-2-3 ninth inning with a strikeout. The Yankees have recently implemented a closer-by-committee approach and Effross has been part of it, having now converted four of six save opportunities with a 2.54 ERA in 56 2/3 innings pitched on the season. It remains to be seen if the Yankees will continue with this approach in 2023, but Effross' fantasy value next season will likely be non-existent unless he can solidify a late-inning role.

Thu Sep 22 202217:23Yankees Reinstate Scott Effross From The Injured List
The New York Yankees reinstated right-handed reliever Scott Effross (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list on Thursday. Effross should return to a high-leverage role near the back of the Yankees bullpen over the final few weeks of the regular season. The 28-year-old has a 3.24 ERA (3.47 FIP), a 1.08 WHIP, one save and eight strikeouts in just 8 1/3 innings pitched for the Yankees since being acquired from the Chicago Cubs in a deadline-deal trade. Clay Holmes should continue to see most of the team's save chances over the final several weeks of the regular season, leaving Effross little fantasy value outside of much deeper formats.

Mon Sep 19 202211:21Scott Effross Expected To Be Activated Wednesday
The New York Yankees are aiming to activate right-hander Scott Effross (shoulder) from the injured list on Wednesday. He threw 20 pitches in live batting practice on Sept. 16 in Milwaukee, and the session went well. Effross will now join Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre for a minor league rehab start. He was initially placed on the injured list on Aug. 22 with what manager Aaron Boone described at the time as a small right shoulder strain. The 28-year-old right-hander will give the Yankees bullpen a boost to close out the regular season. Before his shoulder strain, Effross had a 3.24 ERA (3.47 WHIP), a 1.08 WHIP, one save and eight strikeouts in only 8 1/3 innings pitched for the Yankees.

Wed Aug 17 202223:58Aroldis Chapman, Scott Effross To Share Save Duties
With New York Yankees closer Clay Holmes (back) going on the injured list on Wednesday, the team is expected to use a closer-by-committee approach consisting of relievers Aroldis Chapman and Scott Effross. It's unclear if Holmes, who is expected to return from the 15-day IL when he's eligible, will return to closing duties when he's activated after posting an 8.03 ERA since the start of July. "We'll just kind of put everyone in the best position to be at their best, so it could be a number of guys," manager Aaron Boone said. Chapman has 315 career saves, while Effross, a rookie, has just two, with both coming this year. Lou Trivino has 32 saves since the start of 2021, so he could also be in the mix. It remains to be seen exactly how Boone will handle save chances, but Chapman will likely see most of the opportunities.

Sun Aug 14 202200:47Scott Effross Records Save For Yankees Saturday
New York Yankees reliever Scott Effross closed out his club's 3-2 win over the Red Sox on Saturday, picking up his second save of the year and first with his new club. The 28-year-old made it interesting by allowing a pair of singles, but he ultimately got Xander Bogaerts to pop out to end the game and stranding the tying run at third base. The Yankees have had trouble closing out games recently, but Effross isn't likely to pick up anything close to a lion's share of saves the rest of the way. He has had a nice season by sporting a 2.88 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 55 K through 50 IP, but Clay Holmes or Aroldis Chapman are still better suited for the role despite their struggles.

Mon Aug 1 202215:03Yankees Acquire Scott Effross
The New York Yankees announced in a tweet on Monday that the team acquired right-handed relief pitcher Scott Effross from the Chicago Cubs. The Yankees are sending pitching prospect Hayden Wesneski back to the Cubs. Effross has been nothing but effective so far for Chicago, logging a 2.66 ERA, a 2.19 FIP, 50 strikeouts, and 11 walks in 44 innings of work. He's also registered 13 holds and a save. The right-hander will provide the Yankees with some additional bullpen reinforcements . He'll join a late-inning mix that also includes Clay Holmes, Lucas Luetge, Wandy Peralta, and Aroldis Chapman.
