Tue Aug 1 202320:08Padres Land Garrett Cooper, Sean Reynolds From Fish
The San Diego Padres acquired first baseman/outfielder Garrett Cooper and right-hander Sean Reynolds from the Miami Marlins on Tuesday in exchange for left-hander Ryan Weathers. Cooper will give the Padres an upgrade at the designated hitter spot, and he can also spell left-handed-hitting Jake Cronenworth at first base against tough left-handed pitchers. The 32-year-old could split playing time at DH with Ji Man Choi, who was also acquired by the Padres in a trade on Tuesday from the Pittsburgh Pirates. The San Diego lineup will be an upgrade for Cooper, but playing time will be harder to come by in his new home. In 82 games (324 plate appearances) in Miami this year, Cooper was hitting .256/.296/.426 with 13 homers, 11 doubles, a triple, 46 RBI and 28 runs scored.

Fri Jul 7 202312:05Marlins Calling Up Reliever Sean Reynolds
The Miami Marlins are calling up right-handed pitching prospect Sean Reynolds from Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday, according to a source. Reynolds is a former hitter that was converted to a pitcher, and he was dominating in the minors so far this year with a 2.66 ERA, 11 saves and 47 strikeouts in 40 2/3 innings for Double-A Pensacola and Jacksonville to earn his first major-league call-up. The 25-year-old will be making his big-league debut if he gets into a game during this weekend's series against the Philadelphia Phillies. Miami's No. 23 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, stands at an imposing 6-foot-8 and combines a high-90s fastball with a changeup and slider. Reynolds probably won't have any fantasy value right away.
