Tue Apr 2319:26Braxton Garrett To Make Rehab Start Friday
Miami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett (shoulder) threw a 25-pitch side session on Tuesday that went "great," according to the team. He will now through four innings or 60 pitches in a minor-league rehab start for Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday. Garrett had to pause his rehab assignment after dealing with dead arm, but he's back up and running and may need only a few rehab starts before he's activated to rejoin Miami's starting rotation in the big leagues. The former seventh overall pick by the Fish in 2016 out of high school is worth picking up and stashing right now in deep-mixed fantasy leagues. Garrett flashed his upside in a career-high 31 outings (30 starts) last year when he went 9-7 with a 3.66 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 29 walks and 156 strikeouts in 159 2/3 innings.

Mon Apr 2219:29Braxton Garrett Throws Bullpen Session
Miami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett (shoulder) threw a bullpen session on Sunday and is scheduled to throw another one in the next few days. Garrett has yet to make his 2024 debut in the big leagues after being put on the 15-day injured list out of spring training with a left-shoulder impingement. The 26-year-old southpaw then had a setback when he was briefly shut down after his second minor-league rehab appearance with Triple-A Jacksonville on April 12 with dead arm. He's now building his arm back up and will hopefully be ready to make another rehab start sooner than later. Garrett isn't going to be ready to join Miami's starting rotation until May, but when he does, he's not a bad waiver-wire pickup in mixed leagues with plenty of strikeout upside. The former seventh overall pick in 2016 had a 3.66 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 156 K's in 159 2/3 frames last year in 31 outings (30 starts).

Sat Apr 2000:16Braxton Garrett Could Throw Bullpen Soon
Miami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said on Friday that starting pitcher Braxton Garrett (shoulder) is playing catch at 90 feet. Braxton could next advance to a bullpen session, but the Marlins will first re-evaluate him after the catch session before he moves ahead in his progression. Working his way back from a left shoulder impingement, Garrett made two minor-league rehab starts earlier in April before experiencing a "dead arm" after Monday's bullpen session. His return timetable is murky at the moment, but the team should provide another update in the coming days. The 26-year-old left-hander fully broke out a year ago, registering a 3.66 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and a wonderful 156:29 K:BB through 159 2/3 innings (31 appearances) and should be stashed in the majority of fantasy leagues. The scuffling A.J. Puk would be a prime candidate to move back to Miami's bullpen when Garrett ultimately makes his 2024 season debut.

Mon Apr 1517:04Braxton Garrett Experiencing "Dead Arm"
Miami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said that left-hander Braxton Garrett (shoulder) experienced "dead arm" after his latest bullpen session. The good news is that this isn't related to his initial left-shoulder injury that caused him to open the season on the injured list. It remains to be seen if this will delay the 26-year-old southpaw from returning to Miami's starting rotation this week. He should be sufficiently stretched out after throwing 86 pitches in his last minor-league rehab start for Triple-A Jacksonville last Friday. Fantasy managers that are in need of some extra starting pitching depth in deeper mixed leagues should consider picking Garrett off the waiver wire now. He should stick in the team's rotation all year if he can stay healthy after going 9-7 with a 3.66 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 29 walks and 156 K's in 159 2/3 innings in 2023.

Mon Apr 820:02Braxton Garrett To Make Another Rehab Start Friday
Miami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett (shoulder) will make another minor-league rehab start on Friday with Triple-A Jacksonville and is scheduled to go either five innings or 80 pitches in the outing. Garrett was able to go 4 1/3 innings and threw 66 pitches in his latest rehab start for Jacksonville on Sunday and will most likely be ready to join Miami's starting rotation if he gets through Friday's rehab start without any setbacks with his shoulder. The 26-year-old southpaw is recovering from a left-shoulder impingement that he suffered in spring training. The former seventh overall pick in 2016 out of high school had a strong year in 2023 with the Fish, going 9-7 with a 3.66 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 29 walks and a career-high 156 K's in 159 2/3 innings. Garrett is absolutely worth a waiver-wire pickup now in deep-mixed leagues if he's available.

Mon Apr 812:07Braxton Garrett Gives Up Two Runs In Rehab Start
Miami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett (shoulder) allowed two earned runs on three hits while walking none and striking out five over 4 1/3 innings in his minor-league rehab start for Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday. He gave up a solo home run and a double with one out in the fifth inning before being pulled and threw a total of 66 pitches (45 strikes) during the outing. The 26-year-old southpaw's velocity looked good as he attempts to return from a left-shoulder impingement that he was diagnosed with in spring training. Garrett is probably going to need one more rehab start in the minors before the Marlins feel comfortable adding him to their starting rotation, but when he is ready, he'll be a much-needed rotation arm for a team that has already lost Sandy Alcantara and Eury Perez to Tommy John surgeries in 2024.

Thu Apr 416:29Braxton Garrett To Make Rehab Start Sunday
Miami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett (shoulder) will make a minor-league rehab start for Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday. Garrett is ready to embark on a minor-league rehab assignment after throwing a three-inning simulated game earlier this week. The 26-year-old southpaw will probably need another rehab start in the minors before the Fish consider activating him from the injured list to join the major-league starting rotation. With both Sandy Alcantara (elbow) and Eury Perez (elbow) now out for the year, the Marlins need all the help they can get in their rotation now. Garrett is recovering from a left-shoulder impingement in spring training and is worth a waiver-wire pickup in deep-mixed leagues when he's healthy.

Mon Apr 120:08Braxton Garrett To Throw Three Innings Tuesday
Miami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett (shoulder) is scheduled to throw three innings or 50 pitches at extended spring training on Tuesday. If Garrett comes out of that session without any setbacks, he could be ready to embark on a minor-league rehab assignment. He's trying to recover from a left-shoulder impingement since early in spring training, which has caused him to open the 2024 season on the injured list. If the 26-year-old southpaw avoids setbacks on his minor-league rehab assignment, he could make his season debut in Miami's starting rotation before the end of April. After going 9-7 with a 3.66 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 29 walks and a career-high 156 strikeouts in 159 2/3 innings for the Fish last year, Garrett has appeal for rotation depth in deep-mixed fantasy leagues when he's healthy.

Fri Mar 2916:41Braxton Garrett Throws Two Innings
Miami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett (shoulder) threw two innings in extended spring training on Thursday and is scheduled to throw a bullpen session in Miami on Sunday. Garrett was forced to start the season on the injured list due to a left-shoulder impingement that he suffered during spring training. However, he's working his way back and should be able to make his 2024 debut for the Marlins before the end of April, barring any setbacks. The 26-year-old southpaw had a 3.66 ERA in 159 2/3 innings in his first full season in Miami's starting rotation, giving him plenty of upside in mixed leagues if he can just stay healthy. The former seventh overall pick by the Fish in 2016 has a wipeout slider that generates a lot of swings and misses.

Wed Mar 2017:33Edward Cabrera, Braxton Garrett Throw Bullpens
Miami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said right-hander Edward Cabrera (shoulder) and left-hander Braxton Garrett (shoulder) both threw bullpen sessions in camp on Wednesday. Cabrera's bullpen consisted of around 20 pitches (all fastballs), while Garrett got up and down three times and is scheduled to throw a live batting practice session on Sunday. Cabrera, 25, threw for the first time since being diagnosed with a right-shoulder impingement last week. He is going to start the season on the injured list and will need several more bullpens before facing live hitters again. Garrett, 26, also won't be ready for Opening Day but could make his 2024 debut before the end of April. The Marlins' starting rotation is really limping to the starting line this year with Cabrera, Garrett and Eury Perez (elbow, finger) all ailing.

Fri Mar 1514:12Braxton Garrett To Throw Live Batting Practice Sunday
Miami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a live batting practice session as he looks to build up after experiencing soreness early in camp. Garrett is unlikely to be ready for Opening Day. The southpaw enjoyed a quality season in the 2023 campaign, working to a 3.66 ERA and an impressive 19.3% K-BB% on the back of a minuscule 4.4% BB%, the latter of which ranked fourth among pitchers who tossed at least 150 innings a season ago. The 26-year-old is certainly worth stashing in all fantasy formats as he sports a 3.86 ERA across 58 outings (56 starts) in his career, but also a 3.63 ERA alongside an 18.7% K-BB% over the last two seasons. A.J. Puk could crack the Marlins' rotation to begin the season in Braxton's absence.

Tue Mar 512:20Braxton Garrett Unlikely To Be On Opening Day Roster
Miami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said that left-hander Braxton Garrett (shoulder) is unlikely to be on the Opening Day roster. Garrett has been dealing with left-shoulder soreness since early in camp. He's throwing a bullpen session in camp on Tuesday, but he still hasn't progressed to throwing live batting practice against hitters. The 26-year-old southpaw is likely to begin the year on the injured list, but barring another setback, he could make his season debut in April. With Garrett not expected to be ready, it will likely open the door for fellow lefty A.J. Puk to open the year in Miami's rotation. Despite his injury, Garrett is worth stashing to begin the year in deep-mixed fantasy leagues. In a career-high 159 2/3 innings pitched in 2023, he went 9-7 with a 3.66 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with only 29 walks and 156 K's for the Fish.

Sat Mar 213:48Braxton Garrett Could Move To Live BP Soon
Miami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett (shoulder) could throw his first live batting practice of the spring soon. Garrett arrived to camp behind the other pitchers due to soreness in his left shoulder, so the Marlins have been slow-playing him early on. The 26-year-old southpaw may be forced to open the 2024 regular season on the injured list as a result, which will obviously be a hit to his fantasy value as rotation depth in deep mixed leagues. Garrett is coming off a strong season in 2023, though, as he went 9-7 with a 3.66 ERA (3.68 FIP) and 1.15 WHIP with 29 walks and a career-high 156 strikeouts in 159 2/3 innings over 31 outings (30 starts) in his fourth big-league season. Not only does Garrett keep the ball on the ground, but his slider generates a lot of swing and miss. If healthy, he can be a solid streamer in fantasy leagues in 2024.

Mon Feb 1914:50Braxton Garrett Throws Over The Weekend
Miami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett (shoulder), who has been dealing with general shoulder soreness early in camp, threw out to 105 feet over the weekend and "felt good" as his volume continues to ramp up. He also threw on Thursday and Friday under the training staff's supervision. "The offseason was a little tough for me," Garrett said. "Just seemed like the shoulder didn't bounce back as well as usual, but like I said, we're on the come-up now, just it's taking a little bit longer." It's a minor concern for now, but it's something we'll keep a close eye on as Opening Day gets closer. The 26-year-old southpaw is certainly an intriguing late-round flier in mixed fantasy leagues after he went 9-7 with a 3.66 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 29 walks and a career-high 156 strikeouts over 159 2/3 innings (30 starts) in his first full big-league season as a starter for Miami in 2023.

Fri Feb 1612:52Braxton Garrett Dealing With Shoulder Soreness
Miami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett (shoulder) has general soreness in his left shoulder at camp, according to manager Skip Schumaker. Garrett still threw on the side the last two days at spring training and isn't completely shut down, but the Marlins are taking it easy with him to start camp. The 26-year-old could still be ready for Opening Day as long as his shoulder doesn't get worse, and we'll keep a close eye on his progress as camp goes along. He made a career-high 30 starts (31 outings) and was solid for the Fish last year with a 3.66 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 29 walks and a career-high 156 strikeouts in 159 2/3 innings pitched. Garrett relies on ground balls and isn't overly dominant, but he has the skills and resides in a great pitcher's park to be worth a late-round flier in deeper leagues to round out your rotation.

Wed Oct 4 202314:48Alec Bohm Looking To Continue Success Versus Braxton Garrett Wednesday
Philadelphia Phillies corner infielder Alec Bohm will look to continue his success against Miami Marlins left-hander Braxton Garrett when the two meet for Wednesday's Game 2 in Philadelphia. It's not a huge sample, but Bohm is 5-for-9 (.556) with a homer and a walk against Garrett while striking out in just one of his 10 plate appearances against him. Bohm enjoys much of his success against lefties in general, hitting .303 with a hefty .929 OPS against southpaws this season. He hit 12 of his 20 home runs off of lefties this season despite seeing 277 more plate appearances against right-handed pitching. The 27-year-old's bat could go a long way in sending the Marlins packing in this NL Wild Card series.

Mon Oct 2 202301:13Braxton Garrett Will Start Game 2 For Marlins
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Braxton Garrett will start Game 2 of the Wild Card series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday. Garrett will follow Jesus Luzardo, and will go toe-to-toe with Aaron Nola. Garrett has been solid, if unspectacular, this season, posting a 3.66 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 156:29 K:BB ratio over 159 IP. He was quite solid down the stretch for the Marlins, allowing no more than three earned runs for 10 straight starts before allowing four in his final start of the year. The Marlins will be hoping late-season Garrett shows up on Wednesday.

Tue Sep 26 202314:17Braxton Garrett Toeing The Rubber In Pivotal Game Tuesday
Miami Marlins pitcher Braxton Garrett is getting the starting nod for what is going to be one of many crucial games for his club on Tuesday versus the New York Mets. Entering the final week of the season, the Fish are just one game back of the Chicago Cubs and Arizona Diamondbacks for the final Wild Card spot in the National League. Garrett will look to narrow that gap on Tuesday in what marks his 31st outing (30th start) on the season. The southpaw has worked to a 3.53 ERA, 3.55 SIERA, and a healthy 19.8% K-BB% on the back of an elite 4.2% BB% in his 155 2/3 innings of work. The good news for the Marlins is Garrett has been much better on the road, tossing a 2.52 ERA across 75 road frames versus a 4.46 ERA across 80 2/3 innings at loanDepot Park in Miami.

Thu Aug 31 202318:07Braxton Garrett Looks To Stay Consistent On Thursday
The Miami Marlins and starting pitcher Braxton Garrett begin an important four-game set on Thursday in their hunt for a National League Wild Card berth. The 26-year-old southpaw has thrown well lately, recording a 2.91 ERA with 24 strikeouts in his last 34 innings overall (six starts). Since 2022, Garrett has launched four straight quality starts against the Nationals, compiling a sharp 2.13 ERA with 21 punchouts in 25 frames over this span. With an outstanding 3.8% walk rate in 2023, the former first-round pick's command should make him a reliable fantasy option on a thin Thursday slate versus a Nats team that doesn't hit for much power.

Fri Jun 23 202301:32Braxton Garrett Continues Rolling Against Pirates
Miami Marlins left-handed starting pitcher Braxton Garrett had a dominant outing on Thursday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Garrett showed tremendous stuff in this one, punching out a staggering 13 batters while allowing just a run on three hits and no walks over seven innings. He had 14 swinging strikes and a CSW% of 42%, which is a fantastic number. The 25-year-old has been excellent over his last eight starts, allowing two earned runs or less in all but one and posting 62 strikeouts in 45 IP. He has also been pitching deeper into games, going hand in hand with his walks coming down. It's all looking up for Garrett, who is now a must-roster pitcher in all formats.
