Baltimore Orioles relief pitcher Bruce Zimmermann has been recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday. The left-handed reliever will be taking the place of Jorge Lopez, who was designated for assignment. The 28-year-old has really struggled in the majors this season, albeit over a small sample size, posting a 5.56 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and 12:10 K/BB ratio over 11 1/3 innings of relief with Baltimore. He'll provide some bullpen depth over the final two regular season games for the O's.

Fri Jun 9 202312:15Orioles Option Bruce Zimmermann
The Baltimore Orioles optioned left-hander Bruce Zimmermann to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday and recalled left-hander Nick Vespi in a corresponding move. Vespi will give the Orioles some left-handed short relief after Zimmermann provided long relief on the team's road trip. Baltimore will get some reinforcements in the bullpen after Zimmermann threw 61 pitches in three innings of relief on Wednesday against the Milwaukee Brewers. The 28-year-old southpaw has tossed just five innings over two relief appearances for the O's so far this year and has allowed four runs on eight hits (one homer) while walking none and striking out six. Vespi, meanwhile, will be making his 2023 debut when he gets into a game.

Wed Sep 29 202111:20Bruce Zimmermann Solid In Tuesday Return
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Bruce Zimmermann had an encouraging start in his return from the injured list Tuesday, taking a no-decision in the 4-2 win over the Red Sox. Zimmermann pitched 4 innings, allowing one run on two hits (including a home run) and two walks with two strikeouts. The 26-year-old had been on the IL since mid June with left biceps tendinitis as well as a right ankle sprain. The rookie now has a 4.66 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, and 19.8% strikeout rate. It remains to be seen if he will make another start this season, but if he did it would likely be the final game of the season at the Blue Jays.

Mon Aug 16 202111:49Bruce Zimmermann Suffers Recovery Setback
Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Bruce Zimmermann (tendinitis, ankle sprain) suffered a setback while training this week, per manager Brandon Hyde. Zimmermann, who has been on the injured list since June 15 with left biceps tendinitis, sprained his right ankle in a "training room accident." Hyde said he hopes Zimmermann will pitch with the O's before the season is over, but he is unsure of whether that will actually happen. Zimmermann is not fantasy relevant, but the O's would take any kind of help they could get in their rotation. The 26-year-old had been one of the team's better starters prior to his injury with a 4-4 record and 4.83 ERA.
