Wed Mar 2000:36David Peterson Throws Fourth Bullpen Session Tuesday
New York Mets pitcher David Peterson (hip) threw his fourth bullpen session of spring training on Tuesday, tossing 15 pitches. "I feel like a real player again," the 28-year-old said. "It feels different, but it feels different in a better way." Peterson underwent surgery to fix a labrum tear in his left hip last November and is trending toward a late May return. Had he been healthy, he may have had a chance to earn a rotation spot to start 2024. Peterson has been erratic throughout his career but has compiled several successful seasons. Given the lack of depth in the Mets rotation, Peterson could become a relevant fantasy name once he returns to the team.

Wed Nov 8 202316:10David Peterson Out 6-7 Months After Hip Surgery
New York Mets left-hander David Peterson (hip) underwent surgery to fix a labrum tear in his left hip on Monday, according to the team. It's an injury that typically takes six to seven months to return from, which means Peterson is unlikely to be ready until May or early June of 2024. The 28-year-old southpaw certainly won't be ready for the start of the regular season next year. His hip injury could have contributed to an inconsistent 2023 campaign in which he went 3-8 with a 5.03 ERA (4.34 FIP) and 1.57 WHIP while walking 50 and striking out a career-high 128 batters in 111 innings over 27 appearances (21 starts) in his fourth big-league season in New York.

Thu Sep 21 202314:23David Peterson Looking To Rack Up More Punchouts Thursday
New York Mets pitcher David Peterson will be in search of more strikeouts on Thursday when he takes the ball on the road against the Philadelphia Phillies. Peterson tossed 5 2/3 innings of two-run ball against the Reds his last time out but also racked up a hefty 10 strikeouts in the process. The left-hander hasn't had a great season as he sports a 5.22 ERA across 25 outings (19 starts) but his 4.45 FIP, 3.97 SIERA, 55.4% ground-ball rate, and 25.3% K% report he has been far better than his surface ERA suggests. However, he has been battered for a 7.35 ERA on the road where he also sports a 1.84 HR/9 versus a tidy 3.18 ERA and 0.88 HR/9 at Citi Field this season.

Fri Aug 4 202308:48David Peterson Making His 12th Start Friday
New York Mets left-hander David Peterson is starting Friday's game against Dean Kremer and the Baltimore Orioles. The 27-year-old has appeared in 17 games for the Mets this season, posting an ugly 5.92 ERA and 1.62 WHIP, but is still sporting an above-average 24.4% strikeout rate. After the club shipped starters Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer elsewhere, Peterson should have a long leash in the rotation to see if he can start showing results more like his 2022 numbers (3.83 ERA over 105 2/3 innings). Fantasy owners can continue to roster the fourth-year player in deeper formats but should probably stash him on the bench against a solid Baltimore offense.

Sun Jun 25 202313:35David Peterson Will Start Tuesday For The Mets
New York Mets starting pitcher David Peterson will start on Tuesday against the Milwaukee Brewers. Peterson is starting in place of Tylor Megill, who was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on June 22. Peterson struggled mightily as he began the year in the Mets' rotation. Over eight starts, he logged an ugly 1-6 record, 8.08 ERA, 1.74 WHIP, and 45:14 K/BB ratio over 39 innings. He's looked better in the minors lately but there's no streaming appeal here in mixed fantasy leagues.

Tue May 9 202315:23David Peterson To Make Spot Start Tuesday
New York Mets left-hander David Peterson was officially recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday in order to make a spot start against the Cincinnati Reds. Right-hander Max Scherzer (neck, shoulder) was scratched from his start due to neck spasms. If Scherzer is forced to the injured list, Peterson could make more starts in New York's rotation if he fares well in a good matchup against Cincy. Fantasy managers should be wary of rolling the dice on him as a streamer on Tuesday despite the good matchup, as the 27-year-old southpaw has surrendered 25 earned runs on 38 hits while walking 10 and fanning 36 in 30 2/3 innings over his six starts in 2023.

Tue May 9 202312:20David Peterson Could Make Spot Start Tuesday
New York Mets left-hander David Peterson was supposed to start on Tuesday for Triple-A Syracuse, but that's no longer the case. He is traveling to Cincinnati in case the Mets need an emergency spot starter. Max Scherzer (shoulder) is currently listed as Tuesday's starter against the Reds, but he's still not 100 percent healthy. The 27-year-old Peterson hasn't fared well in his six starts for the Mets in 2023, but he could be a sneaky streaming play in deeper leagues if he gets the start for Scherzer on Tuesday. In 30 2/3 innings at the big-league level so far this year, Peterson has a 7.34 ERA (5.37 FIP), 1.56 WHIP, 10 walks and 36 strikeouts.

Mon Mar 27 202317:16David Peterson Earns Final Rotation Spot
New York Mets left-hander David Peterson has earned the final starting rotation spot for the Mets to open the 2023 regular season, according to sources. Peterson beat out Tylor Megill for the final rotation spot after it was announced that lefty Jose Quintana will be out until at least July with a rib-cage stress fracture. Peterson didn't allow a single run in 12 Grapefruit League innings and struck out 13, but he also walked eight hitters. The 27-year-old southpaw will be a target in the later rounds of deep-mixed leagues if you have yet to draft, and he'll also make for a cheap DFS streamer in the right matchups. Peterson posted a 3.83 ERA (3.64 FIP), 1.33 WHIP and career-high 27.8 percent strikeout rate in 105 2/3 innings over 28 outings (19 starts) for the Mets in 2022.

Thu Mar 9 202319:48David Peterson Throws On Thursday
New York Mets starting pitcher David Peterson (foot) was able to face live hitters during a batting practice session on Thursday. This is good news after Peterson took a comebacker off the foot last weekend. The hope is that he won't suffer any setbacks and can get back on the mound soon. He's expected to compete with Tylor Megill for a spot in the starting rotation. The Mets are going to be without Jose Quintana (rib) to begin the season, so someone will need to step up.

Sun Mar 5 202317:49David Peterson Considered Day-To-Day
New York Mets starting pitcher David Peterson (foot) is considered day-to-day after getting hit by a comebacker during Saturday's Spring Training contest. The left-hander underwent X-rays and had a CT scan done as well. Peterson was able to avoid any fractures and is dealing with a left foot contusion. The 27-year-old will probably rest for a few days, but should return at some point next week.

Sat Aug 20 202211:04David Peterson Starting Second Game Of Doubleheader
New York Mets left-hander David Peterson has been called up as the 27th man on Saturday for the team's doubleheader against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies. Peterson will make the start in Game 2. The 26-year-old southpaw has been solid in 18 appearances for New York this year, going 6-2 with a 3.30 ERA (4.01 FIP), a 1.28 WHIP and a 91:38 K:BB in 79 innings pitched. Fourteen of his 18 outings have been starts for the Mets, with his last spot start coming on Aug. 6 against the Atlanta Braves when he allowed no earned runs on three hits while walking three and fanning five in 5 1/3 frames. Peterson isn't a bad fantasy streamer on Saturday.

Fri Aug 19 202211:26David Peterson Likely To Be Recalled
New York Mets starting pitcher David Peterson is expected to be recalled for Saturday's doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies. The left-hander could very well stay up at the big league with Carlos Carrasco (oblique) sidelined. He holds a 3.30 ERA and 91/38 K/BB ratio over 79 innings this season. Those are fairly decent stats, so Peterson could be someone worth snagging as a short term option. He's worth monitoring in most formats, assuming he does get recalled on Saturday.

Sat Aug 6 202211:17David Peterson To Start Saturday
New York Mets left-hander David Peterson has been called up from the minors and will start Game 1 of a doubleheader against the division-rival Atlanta Braves on Saturday. Although the matchup is a tough one, Peterson is worth streaming consideration in fantasy. The 26-year-old southpaw has been effective for the Mets this year with a 3.54 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 86 strikeouts and 35 walks in 73 2/3 innings over 17 appearances (13 starts) in 2022. His walk rate isn't the greatest, but he's made up for it with his 27.5 percent strikeout rate and 53.8 percent ground-ball rate. It remains to be seen if the Mets send him right back to the minors after his start on Saturday, but there's a chance he sticks around and works out of the bullpen.

Tue Jul 12 202223:18David Peterson Makes One Mistake, Loses To Braves
New York Mets starting pitcher David Peterson was outstanding against the Atlanta Braves Tuesday night, but unfortunately he was saddled with the loss after leaving the final pitch of his outing up to Matt Olson, who knocked a two-run home run over the center-field fence. Peterson allowed only those two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out nine batters. The loss drops his record to 5-2 on the year with a 3.48 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and 76 strikeouts in 67 1/3 innings. He's a worthy streaming option going forward.

Wed Jul 6 202215:43David Peterson Starting Against Reds
New York Mets left-hander David Peterson is back from the paternity list and will make the start on Wednesday against the Cincinnati Reds. Peterson was away from the team for three days for the birth of his child, and he'll return to the bump on normal rest after striking out a season-high 10 hitters in six innings in a win over the Texas Rangers last week. The 26-year-old southpaw has been huge for the Mets' injured rotation this year, as he's gone 5-1 with a 3.24 ERA, a 1.20 WHIP, 60 strikeouts and 22 walks in 58 1/3 innings in 12 appearances (10 starts). In a good matchup against Cincinnati, fantasy managers could do a lot worse than Peterson as a daily streamer.

Fri Jul 1 202216:39David Peterson Starting Friday
New York Mets left-hander David Peterson will make the start on Friday against the Texas Rangers after the team placed right-hander Chris Bassitt on the injured list with a non-injury issue. Peterson, who has a solid 3.10 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with 50 strikeouts in 11 games (nine starts), will be on normal rest after not pitching since June 26. In that outing against the Miami Marlins, he allowed only two runs on four hits while walking none and striking out eight in seven strong innings. Peterson has a 3.35 ERA and 1.23 WHIP with 44 strikeouts in 45 2/3 innings over his nine starts for the Mets, and you could certainly do worse than the southpaw as a streamer in fantasy on Friday night.

Mon May 23 202221:28David Peterson Recalled From Triple-A, Will Start Monday
New York Mets left-hander David Peterson was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Monday. Peterson will start for the Mets against the San Francisco Giants on Monday evening. The southpaw has made four appearances (three starts) for the Mets in 2022, posting a 1.89 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and 16 strikeouts over 19 innings of work. The 26-year-old is on the radar as a low-end streamer against a San Francisco lineup that has been average against lefty pitching in 2022.

Mon May 2 202218:17David Peterson To Be Called Up For Tuesday's Doubleheader
The New York Mets will be calling up starting pitcher David Peterson from Triple-A on Tuesday. He will start one of the games in the Tuesday's doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves while Carlos Carrasco will start the other game. Peterson made three appearances (two starts) with the Mets this year before he was sent down to Triple-A. He pitched well over those three outings, tossing 14 innings and allowing nine hits, five walks and just one earned run while striking out 10. However, he'll have a tough matchup on Tuesday against a Braves offense that just welcomed superstar outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. back to the lineup.
