Thu Feb 2916:22Jimmy Lambert, Joe Barlow Dealing With Shoulder Soreness
Chicago White Sox relief pitchers Jimmy Lambert and Joe Barlow are both dealing with shoulder soreness in camp. Lambert will be sideline for 10 to 14 days, while Barlow could be out even longer. Lambert has not pitched since making his Cactus League debut on Feb. 25 and is going to be out for some time. Both Lambert, 29, and Barlow, 28, will most likely open the 2024 regular season on the injured list, which is more bad news for an already bad and shallow White Sox bullpen. Lambert picked up his first career save for the Pale Hose in 2023 in his fourth year with the team, but he also had a 5.26 ERA and 1.62 WHIP with 20 walks and 41 strikeouts in 37 2/3 innings over 35 appearances (one start). Neither Lambert nor Barlow are worthy of fantasy consideration.

Sat Nov 5 202213:19Joe Barlow Has Surgery On His Wrist
Texas Rangers relief pitcher Joe Barlow (wrist) had surgery on Friday to separate a pair of fused tendons in his right wrist that were believed to have contributed to a blister issue. Barlow should be ready for spring training next year. The 27-year-old right-hander served as the team's closer in the first half of the season and finished his second big-league season with a 3.86 ERA (4.83 FIP), a 1.14 WHIP, 13 saves and 28 strikeouts in 35 innings pitched over 35 relief appearances. He was eventually demoted from the ninth-inning role and landed on the injured list in July. Barlow should remain at least a setup man in the Rangers bullpen in 2023.

Tue Sep 20 202211:50Joe Barlow Has Positive Rehab Outing
Texas Rangers relief pitcher Joe Barlow (finger) struck out the first two batters he faced and retired the side in order on 14 pitches in one inning in a minor league rehab outing for Triple-A Round Rock on Sept. 17. Barlow is expected to make another rehab appearance for Round Rock on Tuesday or Wednesday this week. The 26-year-old right-hander has been on the injured list since Aug. 17, but barring any setbacks on his rehab assignment, he could be back in Texas' bullpen by this weekend or early next week. Before his injury, Barlow had 13 saves, a 3.16 ERA (4.38 FIP), a 1.05 WHIP and 24 strikeouts in 31 1/3 frames. Jose Leclerc has been operating as the Rangers' closer with Barlow on the shelf.

Fri Aug 19 202218:25Joe Barlow Headed Back To Injured List With Blister Issue
Texas Rangers right-handed pitcher Joe Barlow (finger) is headed back to the injured list. Barlow is once again dealing with a blister issue on his right index finger, and it is bad enough that he is making a second trip to the injured list because of it. Barlow has pitched well this season with a 3.16 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 24 strikeouts over 31 1/3 innings to go along with 13 saves in 17 attempts. At one point, Barlow was the clear-cut closer for the Rangers, but with his injuries and the emergence of Jonathan Hernandez, it appears that he has lost his job and could be hard-pressed to get it back when he returns. Fantasy managers who were hoping Barlow would return to the closer role should check to see if Hernandez is still available and pick him up immediately if he is.

Wed Aug 17 202219:07Joe Barlow Activated On Wednesday
Texas Rangers relief pitcher Joe Barlow (finger) has been activated from the 10-day injured list on Wednesday. The 26-year-old has been sidelined since mid-July due to a blister on his finger. He returns to an impressive 3.26 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 23/8 K/BB ratio over 30 1/3 innings. The expectation is that he'll resume his role as the primary closer in Texas. He should be ready to come out of the bullpen for Wednesday's contest. Fantasy managers should make sure he's back on their active team for Wednesday.

Mon Aug 8 202215:12Joe Barlow Could Rejoin Rangers Tuesday
Texas Rangers relief pitcher Joe Barlow (finger) tossed 1 2/3 innings of relief during a minor league rehab outing for Double-A Frisco on Saturday. Manager Chris Woodward said that the right-hander, who was placed on the injured list with a right index finger blister on July 13, could be activated on Tuesday for the series opener against the Houston Astros. The 26-year-old right-hander has gone 1 2/3 frames in two of his three rehab outings, which could be a sign of things to come when he returns to the major league roster. Barlow was Texas' closer for most of the year, but he was removed from the role in early July, and Jonathan Hernandez has been the team's ninth-inning man of late. It looks like Barlow could return to a multi-inning relief role when he's activated this week.

Fri Jul 29 202200:11Joe Barlow, Brad Miller Starting Rehab Assignments
Texas Rangers reliever Joe Barlow (finger) and infielder Brad Miller (neck) will both go on a minor league rehab assignment this weekend, according to manager Chris Woodward. Barlow was removed from his role as closer in early July and was then placed on the injured list shortly after when a blister popped up on his right index finger. Miller landed on the IL on July 18 with neck stiffness after he hit .207 with seven long balls through 65 games in his first year with Texas. Both players could return to the active roster in early August, but they aren't worth stashing until they prove themselves on the major league field.

Wed Jul 13 202222:06Joe Barlow Placed On The 15-Day Injured List
The Texas Rangers placed pitcher Joe Barlow (finger) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to a right index finger blister. He was recently removed from the closer's role as the team uses a committee to approach save situations. The 26-year-old owned a 3.26 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and a 23:8 K: BB across 30 1/3 innings before landing on the injured list. Barlow will be eligible to return towards the end of July. Brett Martin has recently received the bulk of the team's save chances, converting three saves over his last four appearances. Fantasy managers searching for saves should add Martin in all league formats.

Fri Jul 8 202218:55Joe Barlow Removed From Closing Duties
Texas Rangers right-handed pitcher Joe Barlow has been removed from the closer's role, according to manager Chris Woodward. Barlow was terrific early in the season but has fallen off lately, posting a 5.73 ERA and four blown saves since the beginning of June. It seems to be a bit of a short leash given to Barlow, but that was to be expected with his lack of closing experience and Woodward openly wanting someone to step up and take his job during spring training. Expect the Rangers to go by committee until someone steps up, with Dennis Santana potentially being the favored option.

Wed Jun 22 202222:12Joe Barlow Secures 13th Save On Wednesday
Texas Rangers pitcher Joe Barlow threw a scoreless inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. He entered the ninth in Wednesday's game to protect a two-run lead. The 26-year-old tossed a clean inning to earn his 13th save of the year. He had struggled in June recently, allowing three runs in his last four appearances. Despite his recent struggles, the right-hander is the Rangers' primary closer and has converted 13-of-15 save chances in 2022. Overall, Barlow owns a 2.91 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and 20 strikeouts over 24 1/3 innings.

Tue May 31 202222:39Joe Barlow Secures Ninth Save On Tuesday
Texas Rangers pitcher Joe Barlow tossed a scoreless inning to earn the save during Tuesday's 3-0 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. He entered the ninth inning to protect a 3-0 lead. The 26-year-old retired the side on nine pitches to earn his ninth save of the season. Barlow is 9-for-9 in save chances with a 1.59 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and 17 strikeouts over 17 innings in 2022. Fantasy managers should continue to roll with Barlow as he continues to produce as the Rangers' primary closer.

Fri May 27 202208:37Joe Barlow Earns His Eighth Save On Thursday
Texas Rangers relief pitcher Joe Barlow closed out the team's 4-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Thursday to earn his eighth save of the year. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one walk and no hits. Barlow is a perfect 8-for-8 on save chances this year with a 1.76 ERA and a 0.91 WHIP. Despite his success, the 26-year-old has a few scary underlying metrics. He's allowing an average exit velocity of 92.4 mph, which ranks in the bottom 4% of the league, and he has a 4.74 xERA (22nd percentile) and a .546 xSLG (10th percentile). The most important thing for now is that he's the clear closer for the Rangers. Expect some negative regression in the near future, but he should have a decently long leash at this point.

Thu May 19 202211:04Joe Barlow Unavailable Due To Hot Spot On Finger
Texas Rangers closer Joe Barlow (finger) was unavailable to pitch on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Angels due to a "hot spot" on his right index finger, which is essentially a blister. Barlow has dealt with the blister all year, but it became tender and sore on Wednesday, and the Rangers are hoping an extra day of rest will help. Reliever Matt Bush was asked to close the game with Barlow unavailable, and he could not get the job done, allowing a two-run homer to Jared Walsh to tie the game. Dennis Santana allowed a run but was credited with the win in extra innings. Barlow, who has converted all seven of his save chances and hasn't allowed an earned run in 15 straight save chances, could be out a few more days.

Tue May 17 202200:07Joe Barlow Picks Up Seventh Save Of Season Monday
Texas Rangers closer Joe Barlow earned his seventh save of the season in Monday's 7-4 win over the Angels. Barlow entered the game to pitch the ninth inning up by three. He walked the first hitter, but then got a strikeout, a flyout, and a line out to end the game. The 26-year-old has yet to blow a save opportunity this season and has a 1.35 ERA, 15 strikeouts, and four walks through 13 1/3 innings pitched. He is rostered in just 69 percent of leagues and should be rostered in at least all roto leagues at this time.

Fri May 13 202200:26Joe Barlow Picks Up Sixth Save
Texas Rangers reliever Joe Barlow threw a scoreless ninth inning on Thursday to preserve the club's 3-1 win over the Royals. He struck out one batter in the frame while working around a single and a walk to pick up his sixth save in as many chances this season. The right-hander has now strung together eight-straight scoreless appearances to bring his ERA to 1.59 and his WHIP to 0.79 with a 14/3 K/BB though 11 1/3 IP. Although his club may not produce an abundant amount of save opportunities in 2022, Barlow can still post admirable year-end numbers as the clear closing options for the Rangers.

Wed May 11 202200:52Joe Barlow Earns Fifth Save Of Season Tuesday
Texas Rangers relief pitcher Joe Barlow notched his fifth save of the season in Tuesday's 6-4 win over the Royals. Barlow came into the game to pitch the ninth inning with a two-run lead and delivered a 1-2-3 inning with no strikeouts to seal the deal. The 26-year-old appears to have emerged as the team's closer this season after seeing save opportunities last season as well. He has converted all of his save opportunities with a stellar 1.74 ERA, 13 strikeouts, and two walks over 10 1/3 innings pitched. Rostered in just 58 percent of leagues, Barlow is still available and is worth a roster spot in roto leagues and deeper points leagues at least.

Tue May 3 202222:03Joe Barlow Notches Second Save On Tuesday
Texas Rangers pitcher Joe Barlow struck out one over a scoreless inning to earn the save during Tuesday's 6-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. In the ninth frame, he entered Tuesday's contest to protect a 6-4 lead. The 26-year-old retired all three batters he faced to notch his second save of the year. He's now a perfect 2-for-2 in save chances in his last two appearances. The right-hander owns a 2.57 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, and 10 strikeouts over seven innings in 2022. Barlow is the Rangers' primary closer, and fantasy managers searching for saves should add the hard-throwing righty in all league formats.

Sun Apr 24 202206:28Joe Barlow "Officially" Named Rangers Closer
Texas Rangers manager Chris Woodward officially called right-hander Joe Barlow his "closer." Barlow wasn't available on Saturday after pitching Thursday and Friday. Matt Bush entered the ninth inning to protect a 2-0 lead and notched his first save in Saturday's 2-0 win over the Athletics. It was the Rangers' first save chance in 13 games. The 26-year-old most likely would have been given the opportunity instead of Bush if he were available out of the bullpen. Barlow is 1-0 with a 4.15 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and 7:1 K: BB over 4 1/3 innings in 2022. Fantasy managers searching for saves can add Barlow in all league formats as he appears to be the team's closer for the foreseeable future.

Wed Sep 29 202100:22Joe Barlow Locks Down 10th Save
Texas Rangers relief pitcher Joe Barlow has been surprisingly solid in a late-inning role. On Tuesday, Barlow protected a three-run lead and helped his team get the 5-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels. The 26-year-old has now converted 10 of 11 save chances with the Rangers this season. It's unknown what the team plans to do this offseason in terms of the bullpen. However, Barlow certainly deserves a chance to compete for the closer role in 2022.

Sat Sep 11 202122:44Joe Barlow Collects Fifth Save On Saturday
Texas Rangers relief pitcher Joe Barlow was able to notch his fifth save of the season during Saturday's game against the Oakland Athletics. The Rangers' bats came alive late, which gave Barlow a chance to shut the door in the ninth. He threw a scoreless inning and helped secure the 8-6 win. The 25-year-old is posting a 1.66 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 21/10 K/BB ratio in 23 appearances with the Rangers this season. It's a small sample size, but he has looked good for Texas. Fantasy managers in need of saves might want to look his way down the stretch. Although, the Rangers don't do a ton of winning these days, but they did on Saturday.
